The banner raised by Sunagakure was "Searching for the Missing Third Kazekage," publicly accusing Konohagakure of involvement. Although Konoha vehemently denied it, this provided the Sand with a seemingly legitimate reason for military action. Hundreds of Sunagakure Ninja, like a breaching flood, rapidly crossed the Land of Rivers under the command of Elder Chiyo, their military edge directed toward the Land of Fire border. Wherever they went, resources were seized, and the Land of Rivers became a bloody chessboard for the confrontation between two great nations.
However, Sunagakure's preemptive attack was like a giant stone thrown into a pond, stirring up chain reactions that dragged more nations into the quagmire of war.
How could Iwagakure, which had always coveted the rich Land of Fire, let slip such a opportunity? Ōnoki, the Tsuchikage, decided on a two-front war:
The Northwest Raid: An elite force led by Kitsuchi infiltrated the Land of Wind homeland, which was lightly defended because Sunagakure's main force had advanced eastward. They intended to raid Sunagakure's base and force Rasa to divert troops.
The Northern Push: The main Iwa army marched into the Land of Grass, intending to tear open Konoha's defenses from the north.
Almost simultaneously, the Hidden Cloud Village in the Land of Lightning revealed its sharp fangs. The expansionist ambition of the Third Raikage remained undiminished. Seeing that both Wind and Earth had mobilized, the Cloud army crossed the Land of Hot Springs and amassed at the northeastern border of the Land of Fire.
Thus, the four most powerful nations—Fire, Wind, Earth, and Lightning—were all drawn into the conflict, each deploying tens of thousands of troops. The battle line stretched thousands of kilometers! The Third Great Ninja War had fully erupted.
Konohagakure was currently facing the most severe test since its founding. It was like a colossal tree surrounded by wolves, simultaneously dealing with military pressure from three directions. Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi stayed awake through the night, mobilizing every force. The Sannin each guarded a sector, while rising powerhouses like Minato Namikaze, Uchiha Fugaku, and Hyuga Hiashi were dispatched to various battlefields.
Meanwhile, overseas, the Hidden Mist Village was not internally unified. Radical factions, represented by the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, had begun landing on the southeastern coastline of the Land of Fire, waiting for their chance to strike.
On the Land of Rivers front, the Sunagakure vanguard continued to advance. The Sandstorm Squad moved through the chaotic battlefield. Captain Iryō commanded calmly, while Xu and Lucado fought desperately. Sayo piloted the "Mirage," roaming the skies like a phantom. His Magnet Release controlled the iron sand, forming barriers to protect teammates or transforming into sharp spikes to skewering enemies. His elusive spider puppets were especially hard for the Konoha Ninja to guard against.
However, as the front line advanced, the resistance grew stronger. Konoha Ninja were equally well-trained and fearless. Fire, lightning, Gentle Fist, and various secret techniques bloomed on the battlefield. Every step forward required a price paid in blood.
Standing on the "Mirage," Sayo looked down at the smoke-filled, deafening battlefield. This was a total war, a massive, brutal meat grinder. He knew this was only the beginning. More brutal fighting lay ahead, and he, along with his "Mirage," was destined to play an increasingly important role in this storm.
