For the first two years of his physical installation in the physical world, the Emerald Variable had completely, absolutely refused to speak.
To Zenith's highly advanced, incredibly optimized logic core, spoken language was a catastrophic biological inefficiency. It required a localized organism to manually draw highly variable atmospheric gases into their lungs, forcefully compress those gases, and precisely vibrate tiny organic vocal cords simply to generate aerodynamic friction. That friction then had to physically travel through the ambient air, completely subjected to highly unpredictable environmental noise, before finally reaching the auditory sensors of the intended target.
It was a completely absurd, mathematically terrible way to transmit data.
