They had to be on guard at all times, eyes constantly darting between the massive, building-sized trunks and the thick, blue-green canopy above.

It was like having a radar in the back of his head that pulsed whenever a hostile presence entered a certain radius. Because of that, even after traveling for several hours through territory that should have been a death trap, nobody in the group sustained any major injuries.
