"Why are the lights in your room turned on?" A feminine voice questioned. The woman switched on the lights and glared hard at her daughter. "What are you hiding?"
Verena's blood went cold at her mother's harsh tone. It sent a bolt running down her spine, causing her heart to skip several beats at once.
"I'm not hiding anything," she quickly defended herself.
"Then why are your lights switched off?" The woman demanded.
Verena didn't respond immediately, which made the woman even more impatient.
"You've been up in your room since morning and you haven't come down again since breakfast. Are you talking to someone?" She questioned. Then she glanced at Verena's phone. It was sitting on the table. "Who are you talking to?"
She reached out to grab it when her eyes landed on something else. It was the notebook Verena had been using to add details to her characters.
Her mother took it and read it while Verena's face went completely pale.
