In the assembly hall, Sergeant Dillon and a group of three privates for the second-year building were scouring the place.
The whole floor was littered with the Beast Stones.
It was obvious that no one had cleaned up the room after yesterday's "incident".
"Damn." One of the privates said, as he lifted up one of the Beast Stones off of the floor. "They really made a mess of this place."
On another side of the room, Sergeant Dillon was bending down towards the floor.
"Ignore the Beast Stones." He replied. "We're looking for these."
Sergeant Dillon lifted up a smooth, black, metal ball roughly the size of a tennis ball. It was the same kind of Glathrium ball that Shizuka had shown off in the meeting last night.
Sergeant Dillon walked over to an empty crate in the middle of the room that they had brought with them.
He bent down, and placed the Glathrium ball in it.
He then turned to the others.
"Keep looking. According to Ceceilia's testament, there should be five more of these somewhere in here." He replied. "Think of it as sifting through gravel to find diamonds."
The privates all nodded, and kept looking.
Meanwhile, back in the dorm room, Tsukuru threw on his hoodie, and walked to the door.
Before he left, he turned back to the others.
"I'll be back later you guys." He replied, before then walking out and shutting the door behind him.
The group of three watched the door for another moment, before Vorden then turned to Peter.
"What about you, Peter?" He asked.
Peter had been trying to avoid the other three for a while.
But since they were all roommates, that was almost impossible.
He still felt bad about the whole situation yesterday, but he had finally made up his mind. He never wanted to do anything like that ever again.
Peter's lips curved into a slight smile.
"Yeah. I'll come as well." He replied.
Meanwhile, down the hall, Tsukuru had brought his wristwatch up to his chest, and was scrolling through a long list of names in the student directory in the "contact list".
'I should really go see Logan and see if he can upload some kind of 'Voice Command Mode' in this thing.' He thought in a bored tone.
He was searching for Amelia's name.
Unfortunately for him, like in most schools, the students were all arranged alphabetically by their last name.
So despite Amelia's first name starting with "A", since her last name was "Graylash", she was considerably further down the list.
Eventually, her name appeared.
Tsukuru pressed it, and heard a dial tone, as the communication line tried to connect.
On the second floor of the dormitory, directly above Tsukuru's head, a certain girl was laying on her bed, arms behind her neck, as she looked at the ceiling.
This was the same girl Tsukuru had met in the assembly hall yesterday, Amelia Graylash.
She was currently the only person in her dorm, as her two roommates had left hours ago.
But, Amelia was used to it at this point.
She was always alone.
Despite her being a Level 2.3, due to her "condition", she might as well have been a Level 1.
People never wanted to associate with someone as "defective" as her, so she usually spent most of her time moping in the room.
Amelia let out a long, depressed sigh.
"I wish I could have friends." She muttered in a melancholy tone.
Suddenly, at that exact moment, as if the universe was answering her, Amelia's wristwatch began to beep from its spot on her wrist.
Amelia's face scrunched up in confusion.
"I'm getting a call?" She asked herself.
She commonly talked to herself when she was alone in the dorms.
It made her feel less lonely.
She brought her arm up to her face.
"Who the hell would be calling me?" She asked, genuinely believing that nobody would ever want to waste their time on her.
Then, when Amelia saw the name displayed on her watch's screen, her eyes widened.
'It's him!' Amelia thought, her heart racing as she saw Tsukuru's name on the screen. 'It's the boy from yesterday!'
Ameila gulped.
Unknown to Amelia, Tsukuru was pretty much in the same situation, as he was staring at his wristwatch, his heart racing, as he waited with bated breath.
'C'mon, please pick up!' He inwardly pleaded.
A moment later, Amelia's voice cracked through the speaker.
"Hello?" She asked.
Hearing it, Tsukuru let out a sigh of relief.
"Hey, Amelia." He replied, a smile on his face. "It's me. Since we don't have any classes today, I was wondering if you wanted me to start teaching you how to use your Ability."
Back with Amelia, her eyes widened, and her heart raced.
'Learn how to use my Ability…' She thought, full of wonder.
Despite her being a Level 2, she basically knew nothing of how to use her electromagnetism.
Her whole life, she had desperately been trying to generate and use electricity.
But it always felt like her body was…fighting her.
Amelia hardened her resolve, and nodded.
"Yeah." She replied. "Yeah, I'd like that." She replied.
Back with Tsukuru, he let out a sigh.
"Great." He said with a smile. "Meet me in front of the school." He then ended the call, and began letting out several deep breaths.
Tsukuru clamped his heart to his chest.
'Why is my heart racing like this?' He thought. 'I've talked to Layla plenty of times, and never ONCE felt like this!'
Back with Amelia, she watched as the screen went blank.
She stared at it for a moment, before she jumped to her feet.
She made a beeline for the shower.
Back with Tsukuru, he gulped.
After a few minutes, he had finally gotten his composure.
Slowly, he began walking down the halls towards the main entrance.
Ten minutes later, Sergeant Shizuka and Sergeant Faye were walking through the school gate, the two of them just now returning from the convenience store.
Each of them had an ice cream cone in their hands.
"I wonder why your little brother wasn't with those other three boys?" Faye asked between bites.
Hearing this, Shizuka narrowed her eyes, momentarily stopping from eating her cone.
The two of them had crossed paths with the group of Quinn, Vorden, and Peter in the store.
However, Tsukuru had been nowhere in sight.
It was at that point that Shizuka had looked forward.
Her eyes widened, as she saw Tsukuru sitting down on the bottom step outside the school's front entrance.
"There he is." She muttered, causing Faye to look up from eating her cone, and look where Shizuka was.
She saw that Shizuka was right.
"Why's he just…sitting there?" She muttered.
However, before either of them could approach, they heard footsteps approaching from another direction.
They watched as that same blonde-haired girl from the assembly hall walked up to Tsukuru.
She walked down the steps, and stopped at where Tsukuru was sitting.
Back with Tsukuru and Amelia, Tsukuru looked up at her.
"You ready to go?" He asked with a smile.
Amelia gulped.
"Yeah, let's go." She replied.
Seeing this, Sergeant Faye smiled.
"Oh, look." Faye replied, turning to her right to face Shizuka. "Tsukuru's got a girlfriend."
However, when Faye turned to her right, she saw nothing but air.
Seeing this, Sergeant Faye's eyes widened.
"Shizuka?" She asked.
She looked down, and saw Shizuka's ice cream cone spilled on the floor.
Sergeant Faye began looking around to see where Shizuka had disappeared off to.
It was then that she saw a pile of moving rocks and gravel on the ground, following Tsukuru and Amelia, as they walked away from the school.
Seeing this, Sergeant Faye sighed, and pinched the bridge of her nose.
"Shizuka…" She muttered.
