Chapter 279 - Confrontation

Back in the empty storage building, Tsukuru had begunrecreating everything he made on Pioletic.

"Alright, first, I'll recreate the Glathrium Sleeping Chamber," he muttered to himself.

He held out his hand and activated his Ability. The sound of electronic interference echoed through the empty building, and pixels began to appear in front of him,

The pixels clustered together into the shape of a large rectangle, the size of a compact car.

There was a bright flash of light. When it faded, a black rectangular structure identical to the one Faye had seen in the forest clearing on Pioletic was revealed.

Faye's eyes narrowed.

This was her first time seeing Tsukuru's Ability in person.

Tsukuru then walked over to another section of the building to start recreating the Glathrium picnic table.

Like before, he extended his hand and activated his Ability. The sound of electronic interference was heard again, and more pixels began to appear.

"You seem to be quite knowledgeable about information that you shouldn't," Faye replied. "Especially for a Human."

Faye added this part to see if Tsukuru would have any reaction to being called 'a Human'.

While his earlier comment about the Beasts in her fictional "Beast Horde" having "glowing red eyes and a thirst for Human blood" could fit Vampires, it could also fit the descriptions of Beasts.

However, the only reaction Tsukuru had was to let out an amused snort.

"Yes, I suppose I do," he replied, as the picnic table appeared in a flash of light. He turned back to look at Faye out of the corner of his eye. "Blood Knight,"

Instantly, Faye's eyes widened, and she stiffened.

He had just referred to her by her Subclass. There was no doubt about it. Tsukuru knew about Vampires.

Standing a few feet behind them, Starrk was watching everything with a bored expression.

However, a moment later, Faye blurred out of existence. It reminded him of when an Arrancar used Sonido or when a Shinigami used Flash Step.

A moment later, Faye reappeared behind Tsukuru.

Starrk's eyes widened as she grabbed the back of Tsukuru's collar and turned him around so he was facing her.

Faye held Tsukuru up in the air slightly and looked down at him.

"Student Hikiko," she replied, as her eyes began to glow red. "You will tell me everything you know about the Vampire known as Quinn Talen. Which family does he belong to? And what is he doing on this base?"

Back with Shizuka and Quinn, the door to Logan's room slowly creaked open.

As it did, Quinn was amazed at the interior of the room. It was easily twice the size of his dorm room, despite the fact that it shared four people.

Also, since Logan was the only person in the room, there was only a single bed.

Filling the room was a myriad of mechanical marvels, as well as a large amount of scrap metal. There were gadgets, model spaceships, and numerous controllers everywhere.

There were two things in the room that stood out.

One was a large, human-shaped tube that seemed to be hooked up to a computer placed atop a desk. Multiple tube-like wires were hangingdown from the top of the large, Human-sized tube, connecting it to the computer.

Sitting at the desk in a strange mechanical chair was Logan himself.

On the other side of the computer, there was a VR Pod. The same pod that cost 100,000 credits.

"Man, you guys really are loaded," Quinn muttered.

Shizuka narrowed her eyes.

"The Green Family is a special case," she replied. "Unlike with other influential families, they did not earn their fortune through power. Rather, they attained it through selling electronic equipment used by almost every faction."

Quinn had heard of families like this. Privately-owned companies that built space ships, as well as a specific kind of weapons called "Beast Energy Weapons". But these families were usually under the umbrella of an Original Family.

Logan's face bore a tired expression as he saw Sergeant Shizuka.

"Shizuka," he replied in a weary tone. "It's been a while."

Shizuka's face hardened.

The two of them had a complicated relationship.

Shizuka never really had an interest in machines and couldn't understand why someone would purposely lock themselves away in a room for all hours of the day, working on what she considered to be nothing but "junk".

Essentially, the only time they ever really communicated with each other was when Shizuka needed something fixed. She viewed Logan more as an on-hand IT guy than as her surrogate brother.

Logan then turned his attention to Quinn.

"I thought that Tsukuru was going to be coming with you?" he asked, an eyebrow raised in confusion.

"He got…preoccupied," Quinn replied, glancing over at Shizuka. "He'll be here later. Hopefully."

"Yeah, well, have fun, you two," Shizuka replied, as she shut the door behind her. "If I linger here any longer, I'm gonna catch Logan's 'geek'."

Logan and Quinn watched as Shizuka slammed the door to Logan's room. A few moments later, footsteps could be heard heading away from the room.

Once the footsteps could no longer be heard, Logan turned to Quinn.

"So," he replied. "What did you need help with?"

Back in the storage building, something strange was happening. No matter how hard Faye focused on using the Influence Skill on Tsukuru, his eyes remained the same. They didn't turn so much as a tingered. And they didn't lose their focus either.

In front of Tsukuru, a System message had appeared.

[An unknown force is attempting to affect your mind. Would you like to block the attempt?

[Yes] [No] ]

Tsukuru smirked seeing the System message. It seemed that just like when somebody attempted to use their Ability on him, like with Logan and Vorden, his System was giving him the option to block this strange "mind control" of Faye's.

'Yes,' he thought.

Faye's face scrunched up into a mix between confusion and annoyance.

"It's not working," she muttered.

Tsukuru's smile widened.

"No," he replied. "It's not."

Faye gritted her teeth.

'This doesn't make any sense,' she thought. 'The Influence Skill worked perfectly on Shizuka! Hell, it worked perfectly on me!'

She thought back to how Lexi Snacker had used this exact Skillon her while she was still Human to pump her for information.

'If this Skill works just fine on trained soldiers, how is some kid immune to it?!'

It was at that point that she felt the cold steel of a swordpress against her neck. Glancing to the side, she saw that Starrk now had his Knight Sword pressed against the left side of her neck. Him now standing behind her.

'I didn't even see him move!' Faye thought.

"Release Lord Tsukuru," Starrk replied in a stern tone. He now wore a serious expression, devoid of his usual laziness.

All around the two of them, the sound of electronic interference filled the room. Five individual groups of pixels began to form.

Each group of pixels clustered together into a humanoid shape.

There were five sequential flashes of light.

When they all faded, Faye found herself surrounded by Tsukuru's five Humanoid Summons.

Artoria had her Knight Sword pointed at Faye, while Gobkiko had her left arm extended, the blade extensions on her hands pointing at Faye like a blade.

Sylvia had her bow drawn, an arrow loaded into it, and aimed at Faye.

Like with Gobkiko, Kujaku also had an arm extended towards Faye, light gleaming off of her razor-sharp talons.

While not possessing any weapons, Rakshara stood there in an aggressive fighting position, ready to throw hands at a moment's notice.

Faye's eyes widened. She was unaware that he could manifest this many Summons at once.

Her right hand tightened into a fist. She had no idea how strong each of these Beasts was. But, seeing as how Leo had said that the Knight was Intermediate-Tier, Faye assumed that the others weren't far behind.

And while defeating six Intermediate-Tier Beasts wouldn't exactly be challenging. These Beasts were special. Seeing as how they were extensions of Tsukuru's Ability, it was highly likely that they would just come back even if she did kill them.

She would run out of stamina long before they did.

Back in Logan's room, Quinn stared at the small boy. He was currently in a strange situation. Layla and Vorden knew that he was a Vampire, but didn't know about his System. Meanwhile, Logan knew about his System, but didn't know that he was a Vampire. The only person who knew both was Tsukuru.

Eventually, Quinn decided that, given what Logan knew, he was much more comfortable explaining the System side of things, rather than the Vampire side.

"I was wondering if you could hack my watch for me," he replied. "You know, like how Tsukuru said you did for him."

Logan raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"That should be simple enough for me to do," Logan replied. "But first, I need you to tell me why.'
