Chapter 290 - Quinn's Request

Instantly, Quinn moved in to get a closer look at the device. According to his Inspect Skill, it was some kind of a Portal. But it was unlike one that he had ever seen before. Most of the Portals they had were large, bulky objects that weighed a ton. However, this one appeared to be small and compact. It was clear that this Portal was far ahead of their current technological capabilities.

Quinn then heard footsteps approaching him. A voicespoke up.

"Ah," Tsukuru replied as he stepped up next to Quinn. "I see that you have found the bane of Logan's existence."

Tsukuru had a somewhat amused look on his face.

"He's been trying to crack open that thing for years."

Quinn's eyes narrowed.

He reached forward to touch it, but just as his fingertips were about to reach the device…

"Hey!" A loud voice boomed through the room, causing both Tsukuru and Quinn to jump.

Back with Logan, his chair was now turned around, and he was facing the two.

"If you wanna get your fingers blown off, then please, be my guest," he replied. "Carry on and touch it!"

Logan had his arm outstretched towards Quinn and had the same futuristic cannon covering his hand that he had used to blast the wall of his room back at the Green Family Estate when Tsukuru had barged in.

"Then again, I would love to see how my Ability watches up against yours," he added.

Immediately, Quinn jerked his hand away from the strange device.

"Sorry," Quinn apologized. "It just…piqued my interest."

"Yeah," Logan muttered, as his blaster broke down into more of those Spider-Bots, which crawled up his sleeve. "That makes two of us."

Logan then glanced over at Tsukuru.

"As Tsukuru just told you, that thing is the bane of my family's existence," he replied. "Like most of the Original Families, we of the Green Family hid the existence of our Ability before the Dalki War. Before that, we were just researchers who worked for various companies and corporations. Governments…militaries…if they needed advanced technology, we were the ones who helped them."

Logan then snapped his head towards the device and gave it the stink eye.

"Anyway, my grandparents found that thing on one of their trips roughly around fifty years ago," Logan continued. "At that time, nobody even knew what the thing was, and it seemed that our Ability didn't work on it."

Logan let out a sigh.

"Of course, my family tried to research it, but the real breakthrough didn't occur until the Dalki War," he replied. "They found similarities between it and the salvaged Portals from the Dalki Ships, leading them to realize that it was some sort of Portal. The real question is, why was there a piece of Dalki Technology on Earth before they had even arrived? And of course, that just raised even more questions. Why did the Dalki attack us? Were they here before, and we just never knew?"

Tsukuru had a dark expression on his face.

"It couldn't possibly be that they attacked us because they're just another race who thinks that just because they're stronger, that makes them superior, could it?" Tsukuru muttered under his breath in a bitter tone.

In the old world, there had been millions of sci-fi videos on an old video posting website called "HFY" stories. In those videos, aliens were almost always shown in the same negative light as the Dalki. They were usually divided into two types.

The first were those who were the snooty, intellectually superior "Oh, look at the privatives. It took them millions of years to achieve faster-than-light travel. A race that technologically inferior should be grateful that we let them be our servants" types.

And the second were the big, strong, self-proclaimed "Warrior Races" who were just glorified barbarians who believed that they could take whatever they wanted, and all those weaker than them were bugs who deserved to be crushed.

This second category fit the Dalki perfectly.

However, if reality truly were like those stories, the Humans wouldn't be in the sorry state they currently found themselves in.

They would have pulled out some BS futuristic warship that Humanity had secretly been constructing for the past sixty years, and would have obliterated the Dalki.

Meanwhile, next to Tsukuru, Quinn was deep in thought.

Hearing Logan's questions was making him think that Logan might be on to something. Before, he would have just taken anything the government told him as fact. He knew they hid things. Governments always did. But, just like his Vampire System, were they hiding even bigger secrets from the public?

Logan let out a sigh.

"Anyway," he replied, snapping Quinn back to reality. "It's not like I expect you to know any of these answers. The only thing I do know about that thing is that whoever was able to make such a compact Portal was a genius."

Logan glanced to the side.

"Oh, how I wish I could meet him one day."

Quinn's head turned towards Logan.

"Wait, what did you say?" he asked. "Did you say that you don't know who created that thing?"

Logan raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"Of course, I don't," Logan replied. "If my family did, we would have been hunting them down for generations."

Instantly, Quinn turned to look at Tsukuru.

He had a similar Skill to Quinn's Inspect Skill. And he had it from the start, didn't he?

"He, don't look at me," Tsukuru replied, seeing the look. "I tried to scan that thing. However, the screen was glitching so much that it was completely unintelligible. It only told me what we already knew. That it was a Portal."

If that was true, then why could Quinn Inspect the device just fine? And, just who was Richard Eno, then? The world knew him as the genius scientist who had cracked the code on Portals and Beast Gear. Did he know all of this stuff all along?

Unfortunately, this was too big a problem for him to solve right now. Especially for someone like him. He was just one person, and he had his own problems to deal with.

"So, I'm assuming that you're here to continue using the private server to practice your Ability," Logan replied.

Quinn smiled at him.

"Yeah, but before that, I was wondering if you could help me make a suit," he replied.

Over the course of the next few minutes, Quinn explained the specifics of the suit that he wanted created to Logan. He elaborated that he needed it to be made out of the same type of Crystals as Sam's cape, and that he needed it to completely cover him from head to toe. Making sure that no sunlight could touch him.

"So, assuming that we actually go to the Planet with the correct Beast on it and I can get the Crystals, could you make it for me?" Quinn asked, hope in his eyes.

Logan thought about it for a moment.

"Yeah, I could make you something like that," he replied.

"Really?" Quinn asked, sounding like a kid in a candy store.

"Of course," Logan replied. "It'll be way easier than making some of my other inventions. Since they are all powered by Beast Energy, I happen to be quite familiar with working my way around them. Also, I have my own method of making them. My 'fusion process' is one of a kind."

Logan had pride in his voice at that last part. He was clearly proud of his work, and Quinn could see this.

Tsukuru grinned at the two of them.

"And even if we don't go to the right planet, we can always just buy the Crystals off the Online Marketplace," he replied.

Quinn turned back to him with a smile.

"Right," he replied.

Logan nodded.

"Once you guys obtain the necessary Crystals, I will begin drawing up the design," he replied.

"Thanks, guys," Quinn replied.

He walked past Logan and headed towards the VR Pod.

"I'm going to go practice my Ability," he replied, placing his hand on the surface of the pod.

It opened with a mechanical hiss, and he got inside.

A moment later, the pod closed back up.

"Logan," Tsukuru replied, while still looking at the closed pod.

"Hmm?" Logan asked, also looking at the closed pod.

"I was wondering if you could also help make something for me?" he asked.

"Didn't I just make you something?" Logan asked.

Tsukuru let out a sigh.

"Yeah," he replied with a weary smile. "But this will be far less complicated than that VR Headset."

Tsukuru then narrowed his eyes.

"Additionally, I want you not to charge me this time," he replied.

An amused smirk crept across Logan's face.

"Yeah, sure," he replied.

He then glanced over at him.

"What do you have in mind?" he asked.

Tsukuru turned to Logan, a crazy smirk on his face.

"We're gonna make a Beast Gun," he replied.
