Chapter 128 - A Kind Lie

"What if the audience is empty?"

I remembered the words Max had used to tempt me, painting a picture of a lonely, struggling cousin.

But in reality, the concert hall lobby was a sea of people. Seeing guests clutching massive bouquets and laughing, the atmosphere felt vibrant and welcoming. Several wreath-like arrangements the size of shrubs decorated the entrance to the hall, their ribbons fluttering in the draft.

"Didn't you say there wouldn't be many people?" I whispered, leaning toward her.

"I guess my sister expanded her reach while I wasn't looking," Max whispered back, shielding her mouth with her hand. She was clearly joking, and I couldn't help but giggle.

"Shouldn't we have prepared flowers too? I saw a florist down the street." I bit my lip, feeling the familiar prickle of social anxiety. I wasn't sure if it was okay to show up empty-handed for her cousin. I reached for my bag, thinking I could still make a quick dash outside.
