"The documents?"
I woke up with a start. My head was fuzzy from a nap, and the room was too quiet. The phone was buzzing on the nightstand, vibrating against the wood. I picked it up quickly. It was Elara. She asked if I could find some papers she had left at home and bring them to her office for a meeting tonight.
"Did you eat lunch yet?" she asked, her voice sounding busy but soft.
"Lunch..."
I looked at the clock. It was already late afternoon. I hadn't eaten a thing; I wasn't particularly hungry. Since I woke up this morning, I'd only had a few sips of water. I thought about lying and saying I had a sandwich, but I stopped myself. She would find out anyway as soon as she saw me. I shook my head, even though she couldn't see me through the phone.
"No, not yet. I just woke up."
"Perfect. I haven't eaten either," she said. "Bring the papers, and we'll eat together."
"Okay. Where are they?"
"In the second drawer of my desk in the study. I'll send a car for you."
