I climbed into the back seat of the car and leaned my head against the soft headrest. Even though I hadn't eaten anything since breakfast, I wasn't hungry. It felt like the happiness from the island was still filling me up, keeping me full.
The city roads were a mess. We were stuck in a long line of cars that didn't seem to be moving. Somewhere nearby, an ambulance siren wailed, probably heading toward a traffic accident. I stared blankly out the window. The sun was shining, and the sky was a clear, bright blue.
For the first time in my life, I hated the sun. I wished the sky would turn gray and heavy. I wanted the snow to fall again, just like it did at the villa.
In the distance, a large electronic sign on a tall building showed the weather forecast. The words scrolled by quickly:
"Clear now, but heavy snow expected late afternoon."
A tiny smile touched my lips. At least the world would eventually look the way I wanted it to.
