Chapter 121 - CHAPTER 121: PLAN.

The café was tucked away from the main road—

the kind of place people chose when they didn't want to be seen choosing it.

Ji-Ah sat first.

Back straight. Hands folded.

No wasted movement.

Yoo-Na arrived next—

sunglasses on, attitude louder than the door she pushed open.

She slid into the seat across from Ji-Ah.

"…This feels illegal," she muttered.

Ji-Ah raised a brow.

"You came anyway."

Yoo-Na smirked faintly.

"I don't like you," she said.

A beat.

"But I hate her more."

Seo-Jun came last.

On time. Of course.

He adjusted his glasses as he sat, already scanning both of them like this was a meeting he didn't schedule but had decided to control anyway.

"…I assume this is about Min-Ji," he said.

Ji-Ah nodded.

"She lied her way in," she said.

Yoo-Na leaned back.

"Understatement."

Seo-Jun steepled his fingers slightly.

"Details."

Ji-Ah didn't hesitate this time.

"She told Madam she comes from money. Said her family has connections, status—everything they value."

A pause.

"She used my name to get close. And now she's protecting that lie by pushing me out."

Yoo-Na scoffed.

"Classic," she muttered.

"Create a story, become the story, eliminate the evidence."

Seo-Jun's gaze sharpened.

"And you are the evidence."

Ji-Ah nodded once.

Silence sat between them for a moment—

not empty,

but thinking.

"So what's the plan?" Yoo-Na asked finally.

Ji-Ah exhaled.

"I'm not going back for the house," she said.

"I'm going back to end this."

Yoo-Na tilted her head.

"…You really think they'll listen to you?"

"No," Ji-Ah said simply.

"But they'll listen to proof."

Seo-Jun nodded slightly.

"Then we don't argue with her," he said.

"We expose her."

Yoo-Na leaned forward now.

Interest sparked.

"Oh, I like that."

Ji-Ah's voice lowered.

"She only cares about money," she said.

"Position. Security."

"Then we hit that," Yoo-Na said immediately.

"Find where she's lying. Family records, background checks, anything that doesn't match her story."

Seo-Jun added calmly,

"And we don't confront her privately."

A glance at Ji-Ah.

"We do it in front of Madam."

Ji-Ah nodded slowly.

That was the only way it would matter.

Yoo-Na smirked.

"…You know this is going to be messy."

Ji-Ah met her eyes.

"I already lost everything."

A beat.

"What's a little more mess?"

For once—

Yoo-Na didn't have a comeback.

Back Home — The Line Drawn

The door opened.

Ji-Ah stepped in—

and immediately stopped.

They were all there.

Mr. Park.Jeon-Seo.Seo-Yeon.

And—

Arisoo.

Ha-Joon.

The air shifted instantly.

Arisoo stepped forward first.

Relief flickering across her face.

"…Ji-Ah."

Ji-Ah's grip tightened slightly on her bag.

"You came."

Arisoo nodded.

"I came to take you back."

A pause.

"…Halmoni wants you to return."

Ji-Ah stilled.

"…Halmoni?"

Arisoo nodded again.

"She really wants you to come back."

That landed.

Soft.

Dangerous.

But before Ji-Ah could respond—

Ha-Joon spoke.

"I'm here about the contract."

The softness vanished.

Ji-Ah turned to him.

Of course.

That's why he came.

"You signed it," he continued calmly.

"You don't leave unless permitted. If you break it, you pay 100,000 won."

Ji-Ah let out a small, sharp laugh.

"I already told you," she said.

"I'll pay it."

A step closer.

"Don't worry. I know you need the money."

That one hit.

Ha-Joon's gaze hardened slightly.

"I don't need your sarcasm."

"No?" she shot back.

"Then what do you need? Control?"

The tension snapped tighter.

"You agreed to the terms," he said.

Cold.

"And you agreed to protect me when you brought me into that house," she fired back.

Silence cracked.

Jeon-Seo stepped forward.

"Enough," he said sharply.

"She's not going back."

Ha-Joon didn't look at him.

"This doesn't concern you."

"It does when she comes back like this," Jeon-Seo snapped.

His voice rising now.

"Ever since she entered that house, everything has gone wrong."

A step forward.

"You overworked her. Stressed her. Treated her like she was replaceable."

Another step.

"And now your family is dragging her through the dirt because of a girl she brought there?"

The room tightened.

"That's not her responsibility," Jeon-Seo said firmly.

"That's yours."

Ha-Joon's jaw clenched.

For a moment—

he said nothing.

Then—

for the first time—

he snapped.

"Enough."

His voice wasn't just firm.

It was loud.

Sharp.

Uncontrolled.

It cut through the room—

and hit Ji-Ah directly.

She froze.

Her breath caught.

Then—

shallow.

Too fast.

Her hands trembled slightly.

Her chest rising too quickly.

Everyone noticed.

Jeon-Seo turned immediately.

"Ji-Ah—"

But she couldn't respond.

The sound—

the sudden rise—

it stayed in her ears.

Ha-Joon saw it too.

And for a second—

his expression shifted.

Arisoo stepped in quickly.

"That's enough," she said to him.

"We shouldn't have come."

Her voice lowered.

"Halmoni asked us to bring her back. Not… this."

Ji-Ah's breathing steadied slowly.

Barely.

"…Halmoni," she whispered.

Arisoo nodded gently.

"She really wants you to come back."

Ji-Ah looked down.

Silence settling over her again.

Then—

without another word—

she turned.

And walked to her room.

No fight.No answer.

Just… retreat.

Ha-Joon's gaze followed her.

Unmoving.

Unreadable.

Then he turned.

And left.

Arisoo lingered for a second—

looked at Ji-Ah's family—

then followed him out.

Behind them—

the room exhaled.

Not relieved.

Just… tired.

And quietly—

angry.

Ha-Joon didn't walk far.

He rarely did when he was thinking.

Just a few steps out into the compound—enough distance to breathe, not enough to disappear.

Arisoo caught up quickly.

"Ha-Joon."

He stopped.

Didn't turn immediately.

"…What was that?" she asked.

Not yelling.

Not accusing.

Just—trying to understand.

He exhaled once.

Slow.

Then turned to face her.

Still composed.

But not untouched.

"I came to settle the contract," he said.

Arisoo frowned.

"That's not what I'm asking."

A step closer.

"You raised your voice."

A pause.

"At her."

Silence stretched for a second.

Ha-Joon looked away briefly—

toward nothing in particular.

Then back at her.

"She kept pushing," he said.

Calm.

Not defensive.

Just… factual.

Arisoo didn't move.

"That's not like you."

"No," he agreed.

"It isn't."

A quiet beat.

Then—

"She accused me of things I didn't do."

Arisoo's brows pulled together.

"…Didn't you?"

Ha-Joon's gaze hardened slightly.

"I didn't accuse her."

A pause.

"I didn't defend her either."

That honesty landed heavier than denial.

Arisoo crossed her arms slowly.

"…So you let it happen."

He didn't argue.

"I was trying to keep things under control," he said.

Measured.

Careful.

"If I took her side openly in front of everyone—"

A small shake of his head.

"It would have escalated further."

Arisoo let out a quiet, disbelieving breath.

"So your solution was silence?"

"It was the only way to avoid making her a bigger target," he replied.

She stared at him.

Long.

Searching.

"And today?" she asked.

"What was today?"

Ha-Joon's jaw tightened slightly.

"She was leaving anyway."

A pause.

"And she made it clear she didn't want anything to do with me."

Arisoo tilted her head.

"That's not a reason to shout."

He looked down for a brief second—

then back up.

"She said I needed control."

His voice stayed even.

But quieter now.

"…She was right."

Arisoo blinked.

Not expecting that.

"I don't lose control," he continued.

"That's how I manage everything. Work. Family. Situations like this."

A breath.

"And she kept dismantling that in front of everyone."

A pause.

Then—

"I reacted."

Simple.

Honest.

Not excused.

Arisoo studied him carefully.

"…And the contract?"

"That wasn't about the money," he said immediately.

She raised a brow.

"Then what was it about?"

Ha-Joon's gaze shifted—

toward the house.

Toward the room she had just walked into.

"It was the only way to make her stop and listen."

Arisoo went still.

"If she leaves like this," he continued,

"She carries everything with her. The accusations. The misunderstanding."

A pause.

"And she won't come back to clear it."

"So you're forcing her?" Arisoo asked.

"No," he said.

A beat.

"I'm buying time."

Silence settled again.

Heavier now.

 The Words That Reached Anyway

Ji-Ah hadn't meant to listen.

She didn't even realize the window was slightly open.

At first, it was just sound.

Muffled.

Distant.

Then—

clear enough.

"…I didn't defend her either."

Her fingers tightened slightly at her side.

"…If I took her side openly… it would have escalated…"

Her jaw clenched.

"…She was leaving anyway…"

A small, bitter breath escaped her.

But then—

"…That wasn't about the money."

She paused.

Completely still now.

"…It was the only way to make her stop and listen."

Something in her expression shifted.

Not soft.

Not forgiving.

Just…

less certain.

"…I'm buying time."

Ji-Ah looked down.

Her thoughts tangling quietly.

Because for the first time—

his actions didn't sound like control.

Or cruelty.

Or indifference.

They sounded like…

something else.

Something she wasn't ready to name.
