Chapter 27 - The Dual Guardians

The neon pulse of Silver Ridge had a different rhythm now. To the commuters on the mag-lev trains and the baristas in the industrial district, the "Academy Incident" was just another corporate malfunction—a "high-voltage surge" that the Sterling PR machine had scrubbed from the headlines within forty-eight hours.

But for Rami, the world was no longer a flat surface. It was a layer of glass over a deep, golden ocean.

He sat on the roof of The Vault of Fables, his legs dangling over the edge. The reconstruction of the shop was nearly complete; Solomon was downstairs, humming as he organized a new shipment of "Ancient" support cards. Beside Rami, the Millennium Puzzle rested against his chest, silent but heavy with a presence that felt like a warm hearth in a cold room.

The city is restless, a voice resonated in his mind—not a whisper, but a clear, regal thought.

"It's always restless, Cyril," Rami replied aloud. "But it's quiet. Corvus is in a 'medical facility,' and the Keepers of the Gear have vanished back into the clockwork."

Do not mistake a pause for a peace, my host. The items were revealed. The signal was sent across the ley lines. Others have felt the pulse.

Rami looked toward the northern skyline, where the sleek, obsidian towers of Neo-Domino High pierced the clouds. Unlike the industrial grit of Silver Ridge Academy, Neo-Domino was the playground of the elite—the sons and daughters of the tech-barons who had survived the Sterling collapse.

Suddenly, a high-pitched whistle cut through the air. Rami looked down into the alleyway.

A girl stood there, wearing the sharp, navy-blue blazer of Neo-Domino. Her hair was a shock of silver, and strapped to her arm was a Duel Disk that looked more like a surgical instrument than a gaming device—thin, transparent, and glowing with a cold, white light.

"Rami of the Ridge!" she shouted, her voice carrying an edge of practiced arrogance. "I am Luna, Captain of the Neo-Domino Vanguard. We've analyzed the data from your 'miracle' at the gym. My sponsors don't believe in ghosts, and they certainly don't believe in Kings."

Rami stood up, the Pharaoh's spirit surging within him, sharpening his features. "If you're looking for the Sterling files, you're too late. The spire is gone."

"I don't want files," Luna said, snapping her Disk into combat mode. A holographic field of white cherry blossoms began to swirl around her. "I want to prove that your 'Ancient' luck can't survive a Quantum-Engine Deck. If you're the Guardian of this city, then defend it."

Rami felt the Pharaoh's excitement—a low, rhythmic thrum. A challenger who relies on the cold logic of the future. Shall we show her the warmth of the beginning?

"Let's go," Rami whispered.

He leapt from the roof, his hoodie fluttering like a cape. He landed in a crouch in the alley, his silver Duel Disk locking onto his arm. The Millennium Puzzle flared, its golden light clashing with the sterile white of Luna's field.

[STREET DUEL: THE GUARDIAN VS. THE VANGUARD]

[Rami: 5000 LP]

[Luna: 5000 LP]

"I'll take the lead!" Luna declared, drawing her cards with lightning speed. "I activate the Field Spell: Quantum Laboratory! In this space, every time a monster is summoned, its attack is recalculated based on its 'Probability Factor.' You can't rely on fixed numbers here, Ridge-Boy!"

The alleyway dissolved into a sterile, white room filled with floating equations and glass beakers.

"I summon Photon-Leaper. And because its probability is high, I Special Summon a second one from my hand! I set one card. Your move."

Rami reached for his deck. He felt the Weaver of Veils and the Sentinel shifting, their spirits eager to test the new era.

"I draw!"

Rami looked at the card: Legacy of the Dual-King. It was a new card, formed from the fusion of his will and Cyril's memory.

"I summon The Grave-Bound Scribe! And I activate the effect of the Quantum Laboratory against you! I discard Ironclad Symbiote to force your Leapers to recalculate! In the face of the Scribe's history, your 'Probability' drops to zero!"

"What?" Luna gasped as her two glowing warriors shrank, their forms flickering like dying lightbulbs.

[Photon-Leaper: 1800 -> 400 ATK]

"Now," Rami's eyes glowed with a faint, golden hue. "I activate the Spell: Legacy of the Dual-King! I banish the Symbiote from my grave to Special Summon The Pharaoh's Champion from my deck!"

A warrior appeared, clad in a mix of bronze armor and modern tactical carbon-fiber. He held a spear that was both a relic and a lightning rod.

"Attack her Leapers! Temporal Strike!"

The Champion lunged, the spear-tip shattering the white blossoms and the digital warriors in a single, fluid motion.

[Luna: 5000 -> 3600 LP]

Luna stumbled back, her transparent Duel Disk sparking. "That... that wasn't in the simulations. Your monsters... they're evolving."

"They aren't just evolving, Luna," Rami said, stepping out of the shadows of the alley. "They're remembering who they were meant to be. This city isn't a lab. And I'm not a test subject."

Luna looked at him, her arrogance replaced by a sharp, calculating curiosity. She deactivated her field, the cherry blossoms vanishing into the grey grit of the alley. "The Vanguard will hear about this. You haven't seen the last of Neo-Domino, Rami. There are others... and they have their own relics."

She vanished into the night, leaving only the scent of ozone and white flowers.

Rami looked up at the moon. The 20 pieces left in the box were no longer a burden; they were a roadmap.

"We're ready for them, aren't we?" Rami asked.

Always, Cyril replied.

Rami walked back toward the shop, the puzzle resting quietly against his heart. The dual guardians were watching, and Silver Ridge had never been safer.
