Chapter 127 - Chapter 127 Hershel, I can’t do it!

"What?"

Shawn couldn't help but blurt out.

But this time, Beth also didn't respond directly. Instead, she took another step forward in her small leather boots, openly closing the distance between herself and Shawn.

She blinked, her eyelashes trembling slightly, and then suddenly asked with interest,

"Do you know the nightingale before dawn?"

"Nightingale?"

"Yes, nightingale."

"They look towards the direction of dawn, singing the loudest in the darkness... because they always know that light... is coming."

Beth looked at Shawn.

Shawn's reflection shimmered brightly in her eyes, as if glowing.

Conversely, Shawn seemed to see infatuation and a hint of suppressed emotion in Beth's eyes.

'This isn't a good sign,' Shawn thought to himself.

It wasn't about taking advantage and then acting coy, but Beth's current state felt strange to Shawn.

Love between a man and a woman was another matter.

But the way Beth looked at Shawn felt like, 'You are my light, so I am willing to do anything for you.'

To put it simply, Shawn felt that he had been somewhat 'deified' in Beth's eyes.

If this wasn't serious enough, then consider the consequences of letting it continue.

In the future, Shawn might even end up with a girlfriend labeled 'yandere' and 'extreme'.

Infatuation is a complex emotion, just like love between a man and a woman, but that doesn't mean it's right.

What's more, Beth was already young, a young person facing the immense blow of the apocalypse arriving on her journey of growth.

It seemed unsurprising that she would be changed, and her worldview and beliefs reshaped in this apocalypse.

As Shawn pondered, Beth continued to approach.

She pressed closer with each step, and even Shawn, strong as he was, retreated inch by inch.

"Hershel always believed in the inherent goodness of human nature, and Maggie thought that as long as we had enough military power, we wouldn't have problems."

"But now, I seem to have found a third, different possibility..."

Shawn's back was against a tree trunk, with nowhere left to retreat. Beth stood on a tree stump, tiptoeing, her nose about to touch Shawn's.

Shawn even felt her deeply sniffing his scent, seemingly enjoying it immensely.

Beth looked at Shawn's lips, then moved her gaze upwards.

Her upturned nose, high bridge, and a pair of black, seemingly captivating eyes... Beth's gaze became increasingly hazy.

Shawn's Stone Axe in both hands had been dropped at some point without him realizing. He first licked his lips, then suddenly snapped back to his senses.

The two got closer and closer... closer and closer...

Looking at the gradually approaching Beth, Shawn suddenly had a flash of inspiration and roared loudly.

"Attention!"

Beth suddenly came back to her senses, with no blame in her eyes, only looking at Shawn with confusion.

Shawn seized the opportunity to escape from Beth's 'encirclement and interception'.

He looked at Beth: "I know your feelings, but I'm sorry..."

Before Shawn could finish, Beth's eyes darkened, looking a little disappointed.

Seeing this, Shawn couldn't just say it directly, so he quickly added,

"But I'm sorry, I hope my woman is not just a pretty vase, but someone who can grow with me."

"You wait."

After saying that, Shawn ducked behind the tree trunk.

After about 3 seconds, Shawn reappeared, holding a wooden spear that looked like a long gun.

Its overall length was about 1.4 meters, just right for Beth to use.

Shawn wrapped a section of tape around the middle and latter half of the wooden spike to prevent hand abrasions.

"Here, I'm giving you this wooden spear. You, right now, immediately, go and kill 100 Walkers."

"Go help alleviate the pressure on the people building the wall. Just kill Walkers behind the fence."

"But no matter what you do, by this time next week, I want you to have killed 100 Walkers."

"Otherwise, after we get out, don't even say you're my woman!"

Saying that, Shawn hurriedly shoved the wooden spear into Beth's arms, then turned her around, pushing her by her exposed, snow-white arm towards the Prison.

Afterward--

Beth stood in front of the Prison, the breeze blowing, standing like a subordinate.

She looked at Shawn's retreating back, then at the wooden spear in her arms, swaying before she slowly reacted and murmured,

"Wasn't I here to find a boyfriend? How did it suddenly turn into killing Walkers?"

Shawn didn't understand this question either.

"Beth was hiding it deep enough. Why didn't I see this kind of infatuation from her at the Farm?"

"Back then, I thought Hershel sent her. I didn't expect her to really covet my body."

"Beth, bad girl!"

Shawn mumbled, but in a flash, he saw a slightly chubby figure standing behind the fence not far away.

At a glance, it was Hershel.

Shawn felt a bit awkward, not knowing how much Hershel had seen. He raised his hand, about to greet him.

But the next moment, Hershel shook his head at Shawn, sighed, and turned to leave.

Good luck~~

Shawn's hand, which he had just raised, froze in mid-air.

"Hey~~ no, Hershel, what do you mean?"

"It's not that I can't do it!"

"I can!"

"I can do it incredibly well!"

"You come back quickly and explain yourself to me!"

"You come back soon~~~~~~"

...

Four days passed.

The entire area in front of the Prison had been reinforced with a circle of 6-meter-long steel bars.

These steel bars were firmly embedded in the 'foundation trench', securely held in place by the steel bars already laid in the trench.

On the outer side of the steel bars, 2 to 3 layers of rough construction cloth were attached.

And on the outside of the rough cloth, a circle of wooden panels was affixed, to prepare for the pouring of concrete.

Only after the last wooden panel was nailed in place were the preliminary preparations for the concrete high wall completely finished.

This day was lively, and everyone spontaneously came to the lawn.

They looked at the high wall, which was the culmination of nearly two weeks of collective effort by everyone at the Prison.

To speed up progress, they often worked through the night.

Fortunately, Jacob's method of tying rebar didn't require too much noise, otherwise, the Walkers might have pushed down the outermost fence overnight.

Shawn, under the expectant gaze of the crowd, stepped forward and gently pushed it with his hand.

The very top of the straight steel bars swayed slightly, but the outer wooden panels remained firm.

"Not bad, it seems Jacob and his team didn't cut corners. Although they rushed the progress, the workmanship is solid."

"They're professionals, I couldn't have achieved this level."

Shawn couldn't help but nod to himself.

Turning around, Shawn glanced at the crowd, and then at the 'movable steps' that had already been built with wood.

The steps extended all the way from the ground to the very top of the steel bars, facilitating the pouring of fluid concrete.

And at the bottom of the steps, the 'mixer truck' and Shawn's red overlord were parked.

From the discharge port at the back of the mixer truck, muddy concrete continuously poured into the partition water tank.

And the other side of the partition water tank was connected to a water pipe the size of a bowl opening.

...Yes, after multiple discussions, to save time, everyone decided to requisition Shawn's red overlord to pour the concrete.

Although using a spray hose to spray fluid concrete would be somewhat slow, and might permanently damage the partition water tank and the hose.

But using a hose was much more efficient than carrying it up bucket by bucket by hand.

'Old friend, you're getting the short end of the stick this time,' Shawn sighed as he patted the body of the red overlord, then looked up and called out to the top,

"You can start!"
