As soon as Kelsey entered her room, someone pulled her into a hug. She wanted to bask in the comfort of her husband's embrace, but then she realized something was amiss. "Are you hurt?" She could hear his breathing was different than usual. "What happened?"
Her first instinct was to channel her life force to heal him, but Luca caught her wrist before she could act.
"It's just a minor injury," he said calmly. "Don't waste your life force so easily. Isn't it already difficult for you to increase it?"
"But—"
"I'm fine. Really."
"What happened?" Kelsey insisted. Even though she could sense that Luca was not in serious danger, she still wanted to know who had managed to injure the Demon King of the North.
Luca sighed faintly before answering. "You know that I decided not to take my seniors' demon core pills. So I needed to find a substitute by absorbing beast core pills instead."
