Unknown location, Unknown star system.
On the strange planet that the beings who are now the enemies of Earth lived on, hundreds of creatures that would one day come to be known as Precursors scittered about, working on the colossal bio-organic machines that pumped out their living weapons, the Kaiju.
It was near this control section of the living systems that one of the leaders of the Precursor race watched the displays with its opal eyes, similar to those of a shark from Earth.
On the display, it saw the data that was collected by their latest invasion attempt on the other side. Data that showed the strange creatures that seemed similar but vastly superior to their weapons, and the humans who seemed to have veered off into a technological tree that the Precursors saw as inferior.
After all, why use metals and polymers when you can use flesh and bone?
The Precursor watched the last few memories of their weapon that was transmitted through the hive mind right before its destruction at the hands of the machine that the humans called Tacit Ronin.
It watched as the weapon, which the humans have named as Itak, attacked the torso of the machine, somehow damaging it into inaction for a brief moment before it came back to life.
Intrigued, the precursor changed the memories to those of their latest weapon, which was killed just a few days ago. The one that the humans call 'Ragnarok'.
These memories showed a different machine deployed against their weapon, one that was easily defeated after the precursors programmed the previous fight's insight into its instincts, allowing it to attack the chest area of the machine and render it inoperable for a brief moment.
Then, the previous machine arrived and fought their weapon, killing it with the combined efforts of the two human machines.
However, the Precursor observed an interesting effect during this whole exchange.
One. The torso of the machines seems to house the primitive power source of these human creations. Take out the power source, and the machines become nothing but a useless pile of metal.
Two. The top of the machine, which is reminiscent of a head, seems to be another weakness, as observed during the fight against their latest weapon. If they were to remove the head, the probability is high that the human machine would fail entirely.
With these points noted, the Precursor put the new data into the hive mind, programming instincts into the next iterations of their weapons so that they would specifically target these areas of the human machines next time.
But it was not done yet. With the human data out of the way for now, it moved on to the next big problem they faced in their invasion of that universe.
Planet Earth's versions of their weapons, which the natives call Titans.
These things were a serious issue for the precursors. Originally, they believed that there was only one such anomaly. The one that froze their old portal millions of years ago. But now, they know better.
They now know that there are many of these creatures, and some of them are even more fearsome than the one with ice powers.
That is why the Precursors have been looking for a solution to this problem. A solution that they have not yet found.
However, fortunately for them, they have grown proficient in tracking the unique radiation that these Titans give off with their mere existence, which is what allowed them to distract them worldwide with their portals and weaker but stealthier Kaiju while their main weapons target human cities.
Admittedly, it was an expensive venture. One where they were forced to burn through their reserves of exotic matter, which fuels their portal systems, so that they could open multiple portals at once and at shorter intervals than they originally wanted to.
This expenditure meant that the Precursors are now on a race against time, as their reserves of exotic matter is dwindling fast, with only enough reserves to open their portals like they are doing now for another twenty years at most, which is very low compared to the projected two hundred years that they originally thought when they only wanted to keep only a single, permanent portal connecting their universes.
If they fail to conquer Earth in the next twenty years, they will run out of their reserves of exotic matter and will inevitably have to close the portal. An action that would spell doom for their race, as their method of manufacturing more exotic matter depends on conquering life-sustaining planets and harvesting the energy from said planet through biomass processing.
In essence, if they fail to defeat the humans and conquer Earth, and then turn the planet's biosphere into a part of their biomass that can then manufacture their technology and exotic matter, they will be permanently stuck on this world that they are living on right now.
Watching the data, the precursor tracked the various Titan signatures on the other side of the main portal, looking at any new information that they could find on their adversaries.
However, as it kept watch, it saw an interesting pattern.
Out of the hundreds of signatures it could see, most of which were too weak to be proper Titans, there were some signatures that seemed to be dormant, with their unique radiation signatures seemingly in a steady output, which meant that they were not actively moving about or doing anything.
Some of them were deep within the crust of the planet, right above the mantle layer. A place that the humans call 'Hollow Earth'. Others were on the surface, hiding within various locations across the planet.
The strongest of the dormant signatures, however, was located near the south pole of the planet, buried deep within the ice.
With a new idea springing to life within this ancient being, it promptly chittered, calling one of its lower-cast members, who came forward at once.
With a combination of sounds and telepathic communications, the Precursor ordered the creation of a new type of weapon. A weapon designed to carry within it a mixture of chemicals that would allow it to explode with enough power to destroy anything that stands in its immediate vicinity.
And its target would be this Titan lying dormant in Antarctica. The one that humans have given a silly name, based on what they understood.
The so-called Monster Zero.
