Chapter 85 - Where Love Should Have Been

We left the noise of the bar behind and moved into a quieter part of the building.

The hallway was dim, lined with dark wood polished to a shine.

Light ran along the walls in thin strips, casting long shadows that followed our steps. Men stood at intervals, dressed in black, watching without speaking.

No one stopped us.

One of them opened a door and i walked in.

The room was large, stripped of anything unnecessary. A black desk sat at the center, clean except for a glass ashtray and a lighter. Behind it was a leather chair. Two men stood by the wall, still and silent.

Damian entered behind me and took his seat like it was routine.

He leaned back, crossing one leg over the other.

He didn't ask me to sit.

"Look what we have here," he said. "My pretty lady."

I stepped closer to the desk.

"I need your help."

He let out a short laugh.

"What makes you think I would help you?"

I took out my phone and placed it on the desk in front of him, sliding it forward.
