Chapter 113 - Chapter 113 A Petty Best Friend

Running along, Xin Yu arrived at Ya Culture.

That domineering guy, Mu Yichuan! He always tries to restrict her freedom!

Hmph!

Seeing her best friend Cheng Yuan again, Xin Yu's mood wasn't as angry and heavy as last time.

"Ayu, you're here!" Cheng Yuan greeted her warmly, even giving her a shoulder massage.

Xin Yu tilted her head, looking at her with narrowed eyes, pretending to be serious, and said, "Yuanzi, tell me, did you do something wrong?"

"I didn't." Cheng Yuan pouted. She just remembered how angry Xin Yu was last time and felt she shouldn't have lied to her with that excuse.

"Didn't?!" Xin Yu circled Cheng Yuan twice. "Then tell me the truth, who did you sleep with?"

"..." Cheng Yuan's face flushed red. Could she say she was still a virgin?! "Oh my god!" Xin Yu exclaimed, her dark eyes wide. "Could it be a colleague from Ya Wenhua?"

Zhang Wan also works here; who knows if she's planted any spies!

"Xin Yu, what nonsense are you talking about!" Cheng Yuan patted her hand, threatening her with his fist.

"By the way—"

"Oh, Cheng Yuan, you're really free!" A sharp voice interrupted Xin Yu. Zhang Wan pointed arrogantly at the two of them. "Everyone else is so busy, but you two are so leisurely, chatting idly here."

Xin Yu rolled her eyes. Just like that, he appeared out of nowhere! "Manager Zhang, aren't you even more idle!" Xin Yu wasn't afraid of her at all. Last time, Zhang Wan dared to trick her with a fake gun; she'd settle the score sooner or later. "And you even have time to eavesdrop on our conversation!"

"Eavesdrop?" Zhang Wan scoffed. "Someone as down on their luck as you, is that worth me eavesdropping on?"

"Yes, I'm broke, I don't have two billion." Xin Yu raised an eyebrow. She had the nerve to say that? Whether it was true or not, she had planned to get Mu Yichuan to invest in the Zhang family last time.

"You!" Zhang Wan's beautiful eyes widened in anger, then she quickly composed herself. "Cheng Yuan, prepare the PPTs for next week's three meetings and give them to me later!"

Cheng Yuan was taken aback. "Next week's?"

"What? Are you questioning your boss?" Zhang Wan swayed her slender waist; she was going to mess with Cheng Yuan. Let her rebel if she dared!

"Then I'll go with you." Xin Yu took Cheng Yuan's arm, intending to follow her back.

But Zhang Wan stopped her.

"What's up?" Xin Yu didn't want to talk to Zhang Wan. She suspected Zhang Wan about the photos, but she also knew that Zhang Wan couldn't have done it alone, so…

"Nothing serious, just wanted to tell you that asking Mr. Jiu for investment was just a test between lovers."

Pfft.

Xin Yu almost burst out laughing. Had Zhang Wan been out of her mind lately?!

"Did you dial the wrong number?"

"Wrong number?" Zhang Wan looked at Xin Yu smugly. "You'll see."

What did that mean?

Xin Yu pouted, not thinking twice. "Fine! We'll see."

Watching Zhang Wan calmly walk away, Zhang Wan stomped her foot angrily and said, "Hmph, Xin Yu, just you wait! I'll teach you a lesson soon!"

With that, she swayed towards Zhang Hong's office, knocked twice, and craned her neck to peek inside.

"Cousin, can I come in?"

Zhang Hong looked at her in surprise. "What's wrong? Why do you look so aggrieved? Is something wrong at work?"

Hmph!

Zhang Wan lowered her head and rolled her beautiful eyes. Her cousin was such a blockhead!

All she talked about was work, work, work!

No wonder she couldn't get married!

"No..." Zhang Wan raised her exquisitely painted face, her eyes brimming with tears. "Cousin, you have to help me."

"Tell me what it is first!" Zhang Hong immediately became alert. She had a heavy responsibility; her aunt and uncle had repeatedly told her to take good care of Zhang Wan.

"Cousin, you said Xin Yu refused your interview with Old Master Mu last time. Was that a setup?"

Zhang Hong frowned. Indeed, Old Master Mu had specifically requested that Xin Yu, his assistant, go.

Now that she wasn't going, she wondered if she would face difficulties during the interview! "Cousin," Zhang Wan leaned forward, "I overheard Xin Yu saying in the hallway that she did it on purpose!"

"On purpose?" Zhang Hong's brow furrowed even deeper.

Zhang Wan nodded vigorously. "Yes, I heard her whispering to her chubby friend, saying that you, cousin, are incompetent. She did the interview outline, and now she's asking her to do the interviews for you—clearly trying to take credit!"

"What!" Zhang Hong slammed her hand on the table, wanting to go out and confront her.

Zhang Wan quickly grabbed her. "Cousin, what are you doing?"

Going out to confront her now would be foolish!

Even if Xin Yu had said it, she wouldn't admit it!

"I want to see how amazing this intern really is!" Zhang Hong, after so many years in the workplace, couldn't stand people who engaged in such underhanded tactics. "Hey, cousin, why lower yourself like this!" Zhang Wan coaxed and advised. "You're Manager Zhang, do you really need to personally deal with someone like Xin Yu?"

"Then how?" Zhang Hong asked, puzzled. She always had a fiery temper and was very direct.

"First, overwhelm her with work," Zhang Wan suggested.

"And the second step?"

Zhang Wan rolled her eyes, almost knocking off her false eyelashes. "Just do the first step first."

When Xin Yu returned from lunch, she found she had even more work than Cheng Yuan!

"Ah Yu?" Cheng Yuan was also surprised. "This...it's so hard!"

Xin Yu flipped through the event planning introduction. Yes, she, an architecture design student, was actually doing marketing event planning!

"How about—"

"It's okay," Xin Yu patted Cheng Yuan's hand, "Just try it out."

You have to wait for the right opportunity to complain!

Xin Yu was engrossed in looking at various documents, just about to start writing, when—*thud!*

A document fell from above her head! "Xin Yu, take this document to the general manager's office for me."

Xin Yu glanced expressionlessly at the unknown colleague, picked up the document, and left.

Ha!

The opportunity has arrived!

"President Cheng." Xin Yu lowered her head slightly. She hadn't expected to see Cheng Yao; this man was her sworn enemy.

"Oh." Sure enough, he said sarcastically, "You still need to intern at Ya Culture? Short on money?"

Xin Yu's lips twitched. Of course, he was a well-fed man who didn't understand the hunger of a starving one.

A man who grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth.

"Or are you here to infiltrate?"

Xin Yu raised her head, glaring angrily at Cheng Yao. How had she gotten herself into trouble with this guy!

"Yes!" She might as well admit it to avoid his suspicions. "I'm here to spy on your company's secrets for Senior Brother Cheng Che."

Cheng Yao slammed down his pen and strode over to Xin Yu! "Hey, what are you doing?" She backed away, "Just kidding, can't you tell?"

"Just kidding?" Cheng Yao smiled coldly. "Do you think I'm stupid?! I have eyes!"

"Blinded eyes..." Xin Yu muttered.

Cheng Yao grabbed her arm, looking at her menacingly, wishing he could skin her alive.

"Do you think I won't touch you because Ninth Brother is backing you up?!"

Xin Yu shook her head vigorously, blinking her dark eyes at him. The eldest son of the Cheng family was definitely not such a coward!

"You dare." She subtly moved her arm. "Can you let go of me? I need to tell you something."

Cheng Yao shook off her arm, waiting arrogantly for Xin Yu to speak.

"I think Ya Wenhua is bad at hiring people." She glanced at Cheng Yao and told him about Zhang Wan's plastic surgery.

He raised an eyebrow, his eyes narrowing like a lurking leopard.

"I think a leader must first and foremost be competent."

"You're right." Cheng Yao sat back down in his seat.

"Also," she turned to him, "I think the system at Yawenhua needs improvement. I was assigned several tasks today, all of which I consider quite confidential, involving many documents detailing company matters."

A deep, dark glint flashed in Cheng Yao's eyes, cold and seemingly tinged with darkness.

"Who assigned you these tasks?" His tone was chillingly cold.

It seemed he had really taken her to heart.

"I'm not complaining about anyone, just making a suggestion, that's all." Xin Yu didn't want to say it directly; as the general manager, wouldn't he know immediately?

"Hmm." He changed his tone, becoming gentler than before, "Did you spend yesterday at the Mu family's old house? Have you become Ninth Brother's niece?"

"…" The topic changed so quickly; Xin Yu was a little unaccustomed to it. She glanced at Cheng Yao and nodded. "Not bad!" Cheng Yao actually gave her a thumbs up. "Impressive!"

From the two issues Xin Yu had mentioned about the company, Cheng Yao had been secretly astonished.

Ugh.

Xin Yu didn't know how to answer.

Couldn't he at least have some sarcasm?!

"Compared to your senior brother Cheng Che, you're more than ten times better!"

"You... what do you mean!" Xin Yu stared at Cheng Yao. Why had he come back to this point again?!

Did he have to label her to feel better?

"The meaning is quite clear!" Cheng Yao leaned back lazily in his chair. "The student surpasses the master."

He's crazy!

Xin Yu really thought Cheng Yao had psychological problems!

The trauma from his childhood must have left a huge shadow!

"These!" Cheng Yao pointed to the stack of documents on his right, about half his height, "Translate them by tomorrow."

...!

Xin Yu stared at him in shock, finally understanding something.

That's why he, Mu Yichuan, and Qiu Zhi became such good friends, even best buddies.

Because they were all… petty and narrow-minded!

"Excuse me, Mr. Cheng, is this within my internship scope?" She didn't want to do it!

"Ask Ninth Brother, and you'll know."

"Cheng Yao, don't go too far! What does this have to do with Mu Yichuan!"

"Your senior brother Cheng Che hasn't managed to mess with me yet," Cheng Yao said confidently, "Xin Yu, you have to trust my abilities."

Xin Yu's eyelashes trembled with anger. She really had bad luck with men!

Once her internship was over, she was leaving immediately!

She angrily grabbed the pile of documents, "Cheng Yao, don't let me catch you red-handed!"

Fortunately, she had someone in the same boat. Xin Yu and Cheng Yuan worked overtime together, occasionally chatting, which was somewhat pleasant.

At least her anger subsided a bit.

But, when Xin Yu looked at the time, she immediately exploded! "It's almost nine o'clock!" She stood up hurriedly. Old Master Mu and Mu Yichuan had invited her home for dinner that morning.

She had agreed.

But when she took out her phone, her heart sank.

So many missed calls…
