Scarlett POV
He jerked upright in his chair, shock rippling across his face as disbelief flooded every inch of his expression.
"What are you talking about?" he asked, running his fingers through his hair in frustration. Still trying to conceal his expression.
But I already knew everything, so there was no point in him pretending.
"I know your grandma is sick, Xavier…" I was still speaking when he cut me off sharply.
"Cut the crap and get to the point," he snapped impatiently.
I frowned.
He would always be an asshole.
"I managed to convince her," I said simply, keeping it short and direct, exactly the way he wanted.
But that wasn't enough for him.
"How?" he asked, his dark eyes locking onto mine.
I quickly looked away. My body was far too weak to bear the weight of his stare.
"Just go and speak with her before she gets suspicious," I said quietly, not really expecting him to listen.
Because Xavier never listened to me.
Or to anyone, for that matter.
