"The morning sun reflected against my face, pulling me away from sleep. I stretched lazily across the bed before dragging the pillow over my face, refusing to leave the warmth of the sheets.
After what felt like a long battle with myself, I finally forced my body out of bed with a loud yawn. Every muscle in my body felt sore, especially my stomach, but thankfully it wasn't as unbearable as yesterday.
I slipped the heating pad from around my waist before making my way toward the window. The cool morning breeze brushed gently against my skin, easing some of the heaviness in my body as I stretched my stiff limbs.
The memories of last night suddenly came flooding back.
A smile slowly crept onto my lips.
It still felt too good to be true.
Xavier had actually shown me a little kindness.
It wasn't gentle—not in the usual sense. He was still cold, still harsh, and still impossible to understand, but somewhere beneath all that ice, there had been warmth.
