Cabor Doric stood outside the Transfiguration classroom door, his expression grim.

His face was pale and gaunt, yet strangely, finger-sized red spots marred his thin, pallid skin. This bizarre appearance made him look like a walking corpse beginning to develop livor mortis.

The potion brewed from Rey's blood typically lasted about ten days. During that time, Doric could live like a human: unafraid of sunlight, no need for blood, and capable of using minor magic.

But less than a week later, everything changed.

His body was plagued by unbearable itching, and the potion's effects were fading rapidly. In less than ten days, his condition had deteriorated to something even worse than a vampire's.

As the saying goes, when it rains, it pours.

Doric had originally explained his plan to his friend Turner: cause chaos at Hogwarts during Easter to lure the hidden vampire into attacking Rey. Turner agreed and even went into the Forbidden Forest to collect lizard eggs for the distraction.

However, when Turner returned with the eggs and saw Doric's mutated appearance, he grew suspicious of the plan.

Left with no choice, Doric killed his best friend in true vampire fashion: pinning his arms and biting into the artery of his neck. He drained Turner's blood, haunted by the look of betrayal and pain in his friend's dying eyes.

That gaze replayed in his mind constantly, filling him with guilt.

None of this should have happened. If anyone was to blame, it was his body for mutating too soon, and Rey MacFusty for not cooperating.

I did nothing wrong. It was Turner's fault.

Getting Rey's blood would make him a living vampire, better equipped to kill dark creatures. Wasn't that the purpose of an Auror? To protect the people from darkness?.

Sacrificing one irrelevant person was no big deal. Turner, that stubborn drunkard, had asked for it.

The more Doric dwelt on these troubling thoughts, the angrier he became. His face twisted in rage, he turned to the terrified Dorsey beside him and roared, "Blast this door open!".

---

The Transfiguration classroom was full of first-year students.

First-years rarely handle emergencies well. Hearing Professor Doric's voice outside, some students naturally moved to open the door.

"Stop! Did you forget what Professor McGonagall said?".

Rey shouted, stopping the students in their tracks.

The room fell silent for a moment before someone repeated McGonagall's order: "Do not open the door until you hear Professor McGonagall's voice.".

"But Professor Doric is a professor too. maybe McGonagall got held up," a student suggested weakly, though they didn't open the door.

Rey sighed in relief. As long as they waited for other professors to arrive, dealing with Doric shouldn't be a problem.

But where were the professors? Why were they so slow? Had Doric detained them somehow?.

"Ah!...".

While Rey worried, Besai, a frail student, suddenly screamed.

He stumbled backward, knocking into desks and chairs, frantically trying to pull something out of his robe pockets with a look of terror.

The classroom erupted in noise. Some girls, overcome by inexplicable fear, began to sob.

Rip!.

A crisp sound echoed as Besai tore his robe pocket in his panic. Finally, he threw the contents onto the floor.

It was two fist-sized colorful eggs. But as they hit the ground, the heads of small lizards were already poking out of the shells.

Besai had probably kept them because they looked pretty. But the eggs had hatched, and a lizard must have bitten him, causing his frantic reaction.

The eggs shattered upon impact. Rey immediately rushed forward, intending to stomp the baby lizards to death.

Crunch, crunch. Rey crushed one lizard underfoot and kicked the other hard against the wall.

---

However, things weren't that simple. The lizard that hit the wall didn't die. With a shriek, its body began to expand rapidly.

The process looked like it was tearing muscle and skin, accompanied by painful roars that made everyone's blood run cold.

In moments, the lizard that had been smaller than a fist grew to about three meters long.

Shaking its head and tail, flickering its long tongue, and covered in slime-coated scales, a full-grown Komodo dragon stood alive and well before the students.

Most students in the room could use magic, so one Komodo dragon shouldn't be a problem.

But just as Rey had that thought, the situation spiraled.

Besai wasn't the only one who had picked up eggs.

Nearly two-thirds of the students had collected them. Now, in panic, everyone was pulling the eggs from their pockets and throwing them away.

The sound of shattering eggs filled the room.

Screams of terror, the clatter of overturning chairs, and the agonizing roars of enlarging lizards turned the classroom into a hellscape of danger.

Komodo dragons hold grudges. The one Rey had kicked, now fully grown, charged straight at him.

Knowing Rey couldn't use magic, Agnes pulled him behind her and stepped forward, raising her wand to cast a Shield Charm.

But a first-year's reflexes weren't fast enough. Seeing Agnes couldn't cast in time, Rey grabbed her shoulder, pulled her into his arms, and spun around, presenting his back to take the lizard's impact.

Bang!.

The Komodo dragon's strength was immense, knocking both of them forward to the ground.

Ramming is a Komodo dragon's primary attack. Once the prey is down, the tearing and biting begins.

---

Burning pain seared Rey's back. Even with a body far stronger than an average wizard, he grimaced in agony.

The lizard didn't stop. After knocking them down, it opened its massive jaws to bite.

Saliva dripped from its mouth in thick strands. In that moment of peril, Rey suddenly looked back at the gaping maw and swung his wand downward with all his might.

In the face of death, Rey forgot about his magical blockage. He had only one thought: kill this Komodo dragon that wanted to eat him.

Whoosh!.

A sharp, piercing sound sliced through the air.

With Rey's swing, the pouncing Komodo dragon stiffened mid-air. It was instantly sliced in half down the middle.

Due to inertia, its legs weren't moving in sync, so one half of its body landed slightly ahead of the other.
