The Beach.
"I'm counting on you, Waka. Don't let them drown."
Leo watched the Fairy Swarm charging toward the ocean.
"Don't worry!" Waka's tail twitched with sadistic glee. "I will watch them closely."
She visualized slapping disobedient fairies into orbit. Justice will be served.
But the plan backfired.
SLAP.
A fairy flew into the air, screaming with joy.
"Yahoo!"
The other fairies froze. Their eyes lit up.
"Me next! Me next!"
They formed a line.
"Wahoo!" "Yeet me!" "Higher!"
An hour later, Waka lay exhausted on a reef. Her tail was sore. The fairies were relentless. Even the ones slapped a hundred meters away would swim back and rejoin the queue.
Why did it turn out like this?
The Pier.
Chen stood like a statue, holding her steel "Avenger's Rod."
Leo set up a cauldron behind her.
Splosh.
Chen yanked a fish out. Kagerou caught it mid-air, gutted it with a flick of her claws, and tossed it into the boiling pot.
Total time: 45 seconds.
The fish was practically swimming in the soup before it realized it was dead.
Zip.
A Gap opened.
Ran stepped out, carrying a spice basket. She pushed Yukari back inside.
"I've troubled you, Sage of Youkai. Go back."
"Ran-chan~~" Yukari whined, tugging Ran's sleeve. "Let me stay!"
"Please address me as Sage of Youkai. We are colleagues," Ran said coldly. She grabbed both sides of the Gap and forced it shut.
Slam.
"Apologies, Lord Leo," Ran bowed. "The old lady is embarrassing."
Leo sipped his soup. Family drama. Delicious.
He quietly poured a second bowl and placed it behind his back.
A Gap opened stealthily. A pale hand reached out and took the bowl.
"How long will you keep this up?" Leo asked Ran.
"Until Chen gets revenge," Ran sipped her soup. "Lady Yukari went too far. Chen is a baby. The Legend is a monster. How could she be so cruel?"
Behind Leo's back, a finger started writing characters on his shirt.
I want fish too.
Leo ignored it.
The finger poked him. Harder.
Fish. Now.
Leo sighed. He reached behind his back and grabbed the slender hand.
Stop it. Ran is watching.
SLAP.
A sharp pain hit his hand.
"Hiss!"
"What's wrong?" Ran asked innocently. "Mosquito?"
"Yeah," Leo rubbed his red hand. "A very old mosquito. Potent venom."
He scooped out the cooked fish meat. He gave two bowls to Ran (for Chen). He sat down with Kagerou to eat.
Yukari tugged his shirt again.
RIIIP.
The seam of his shirt tore.
"Purple Fairy! That's enough! You're tearing my clothes!" Leo whispered furiously.
He sighed and tossed a piece of fish backward.
Chomp.
The Gap closed.
So childish. The older they get, the more their integrity drops.
Yuyuko is a Black Hole. Kanako is a Drunkard. Byakuren is a Biker Gang Leader. Eirin is Walter White.
And Yukari Yakumo... is a brat who steals fish soup.
Status Update:
Chen: Fishing Level 9 (95%).
Wakasagihime: Mental Stability 10% (Fairies are evil).
Leo: Shirt Durability 50%.
The Legend: Sleeping (Unaware of the impending doom).
