Chapter 84: Otto: I'm Topping Up Until I Clear Out Kallen's Banner Today!!

In Su Mu's previous life, Titanfall 2 was a first-person shooter developed by Respawn Entertainment, standing as a legendary title in the world of single-player games. As a first-person FPS, its gunplay was exceptional, and it featured a variety of mechs for players to pilot.

Piloting a Titan mech in combat was one of the core pillars of the gameplay. Titans were war machines with immense firepower, but only a skilled Pilot could truly unleash their potential on the battlefield. A "terrifying" rifleman named Jack Cooper was thrust into the role of a Pilot by necessity, standing alongside the Titan BT-7274 to tear through enemies like a god of war. During their journey, man and machine built a bond of deep trust. That single line—"Protocol 3: Protect the Pilot"—was a legendary moment capable of making grown men burst into tears on the spot.

Of course, the reason Su Mu was introducing Titanfall 2 and not the first Titanfall was that he intended to start directly with the second installment.

In Su Mu's office, Bronya sat in his chair, patiently reading through the proposal.

"A first-person FPS? Becoming a Pilot, piloting a Titan to clash with enemies on the battlefield? Split into PVE and PVP modes..." Bronya's gaze was a bit strange. She clearly hadn't expected Su Mu to plan an FPS game, let alone one that put so much effort into a story campaign.

One had to realize that while there were some excellent FPS games in this world, weren't they usually just about letting the player shoot things and be done with it? Who cared about the plot or the setting? Players just wanted to know how to go on a killing spree. Story? Who understands that stuff?

Though Bronya wanted to see what a first-person mech combat FPS would look like, from a practical standpoint, miHoYo had never made a large-scale single-player game before. To be honest, in either Su Mu's previous life or this one, a massive single-player title wasn't something a small developer could easily shoulder. Technology, funding, manpower... creating a top-tier single-player game was no simple feat.

Most importantly, miHoYo currently lacked a corresponding game engine. The engine for Honkai Impact 3rd was the common Unity3D, using C# or JS for scripting. Despite various technical optimizations, it was still Unity3D at its core, and they paid usage fees for it. That engine had been modified and optimized primarily by Su Mu alone, with maintenance now handed over to the project team. To make this kind of FPS, they could use an engine, but not every engine was "plug-and-play." It had to be optimized for the studio's specific needs—a massive undertaking.

And the engine was the foundation, much like the basement of a house; if the foundation was unstable, the house would eventually collapse.

Su Mu noticed Bronya's concern and smiled. "It's just a preliminary idea; I haven't decided to do it yet. As for the engine, you don't need to worry. Our company is full of hidden dragons and crouching tigers." He wasn't lying; the project team had programmer "big brothers" in their thirties who weren't bald yet—and lack of baldness was proof of their elite level as coders.

"You... I really don't know what to say to you." Bronya sighed and looked at Su Mu helplessly. "It's only been a few months since Honkai 3rd launched. The project has just stabilized, and you finally have time to rest, yet you're already tinkering with a new game."

Su Mu heard the worry in her voice. He shrugged. "Can't help it. Ever since Rita arrived, I feel like my work is being snatched away. If I don't do something, I don't feel at peace."

Bronya felt black lines form on her forehead. "Are you... a workaholic?"

Su Mu spread his hands. "How could I be a workaholic? Bronya, you haven't been taking it easy either lately. Do you feel weary of your work, or do you hate it?"

Bronya blinked. Actually... no.

In fact, from the inception of Honkai 3rd to its launch and beyond, Bronya had been extremely busy. Even Kiana, the hands-off boss, had been dragged in by Bronya at times to help out because there simply wasn't enough staff. Was she tired? Of course. But it also felt... not that tiring. Watching miHoYo come back to life, thrive, and finally secure a place in the industry—Bronya had participated in it all, witnessing the rise of the company with her own eyes.

"You're right." Bronya shook her head. She realized that she and Su Mu were cut from the same cloth. When doing what they loved, they didn't feel hatred no matter how tired they were. Having a goal, working toward it, and reaping the rewards... if every job in the world were like this, no one would hate working. Most people were dissatisfied with their work because no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't get a corresponding return.

"Since you've decided to do it, let's call Kiana for a meeting later." Bronya stood up. She had decided long ago that as long as Su Mu made a decision, she would support it. She saw a unique magic in this boy who was a few years younger than her; with that magic present, Su Mu's games seemed invincible.

Still, to be safe, she wanted Kiana to take a look. In Bronya's eyes, Kiana's last two "bets" had hit the jackpot, proving that Kiana had a better eye for these things than she did. It was strange; that girl didn't even follow the industry, so how did her vision become so sharp in six months?

The proposal for Titanfall was being further refined. Under Carole's guidance, Firefly gradually familiarized herself with the Honkai 3rd production team. With her excellent skills, she integrated quickly. Knowing Firefly loved transformations and mecha elements, Carole let her participate in designing sci-fi-style Valkyrie armors and new mechanical enemies. Firefly didn't betray that trust, quickly becoming capable of handling tasks on her own.

As time passed, two weeks after the "Queen's Descent" update, the second half of the version content was updated. Yae Sakura's battlesuits [Gyakushinn Miko], [Goushinnso Memento], and [Flame Sakitama]joined the fray! Kallen's battlesuits [Sündenjäger]and [Sixth Serenade]joined the fray! Fu Hua's new battlesuit [Night Squire]joined the fray!

The moment the content and banners updated, inside the office of Otto Apocalypse at the Schicksal Consortium headquarters...

Otto could hardly contain his excitement. The moment the banners refreshed and Kallen's [Sixth Serenade]appeared...

"I'm pulling, I'm pulling! I'm topping up until I clear this banner today!"

Kallen Kaslana's BIO-type battlesuit—[Sixth Serenade]—was the soul-awakened form of [Divine Prayer]. It was a melee elemental dealer capable of flexibly stacking Raven Feather Marks on enemies to deal Ice damage.

"Hmm??"

Otto was ready to start pulling until he noticed a very eye-catching [Character Tutorial & Commentary Video]next to the banner. Piqued by intense curiosity, he clicked it. The game immediately jumped to a video sharing site.
