Chapter 173: Big Duck Coming to Su Mu's House to "Catch an Affair"? Seele, Why Are You Here!
Pardon me, my friend. What is the meaning of life? If you ask me, I would tell you that life has no meaning. After ninety-nine percent of three generations have passed, time will erase every trace of your existence. Therefore, the meaning of life is simply the experience of the few short decades you are alive; that is where all the meaning of existence lies...
Oh, my friend, pardon me again. What is the origin of the universe? What is its end? Why is human DNA 99% similar to that of a chimpanzee? Why do birds fly, and why does life sleep?
Su Mu lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling, contemplating the meaning of humanity and the origin of the universe. The girl in his arms was already fast asleep, leaning against him like a little kitten. Listening to her steady breathing, Su Mu felt a wave of peace. Recalling what had just happened, a wry smile couldn't help but cross his face. It was too fierce. He thought for a long time and could only use that word to describe the Seele of moments ago. She was practically a God of War. She didn't seem at all like a girl experiencing this for the first time... well, that wasn't quite right. Her movements and expressions were very green. But she wasn't fighting alone.
Whenever Seele felt exhausted, the other Seele would suddenly launch a surprise attack. Her style was completely different. She twisted her body wildly, like a cowgirl riding freely across the plains. The only problem was that the horse being ridden was Su Mu himself... Then, after the cowgirl had her fill and Su Mu had barely rested for a moment, he would be met with Seele's soulful, affectionate gaze again. Her delicate, sweet voice echoed in his ears. It was the same body, yet the difference in performance between the two personalities was so stark. This intense contrast made it impossible for Su Mu to resist for even a second. Damn it! I'm going all out with Seele!
After this cycle repeated several times, even Su Mu felt exhausted. On the surface, he was facing one person, but that wasn't the case at all. Switching back and forth between two vastly different types of stimulation was a massive shock to both his mind and body... It was fortunate that he had enhanced his physical constitution; otherwise, he probably would have been drained of every last drop by now. He hadn't expected the harmless-looking Seele to have such a terrifying side.
Su Mu looked at the kitten-like Seele in his arms, and as the vivid images of the night flashed through his mind, he let out a dry laugh. Facing two Seeles at once... even if his kidneys were made of iron, they wouldn't be able to stand it. If this had been his pre-enhancement self—the "glass cannon" physique of a fresh graduate—he would have fainted on the bed long ago. At this moment, Su Mu deeply understood why ancient emperors used to die "on a woman's belly." It wasn't just a colorful exaggeration; it was a genuine possibility. Thinking about how he still had to conquer Bronya in the future, and that the sisters might team up, Su Mu felt a chill down his spine. It seemed he needed to start paying attention to his health, exercise more, and brew some goji berries in his thermos... otherwise, he really would die in bed sooner or later.
Having experienced this romance with Seele, Su Mu's mindset had shifted. He wanted to give the girl beside him a home, a warm home. He also understood just how much Bronya meant to Seele. Previously, although Su Mu had feelings for Bronya, he hadn't been able to take that final step for various reasons. No matter how good the atmosphere was, the thought that Seele had meticulously arranged it always gave him a sense of guilt. He also understood that love is ultimately selfish. The desire to monopolize one's partner is a natural manifestation. No matter how generous Seele acted, she would eventually feel dissatisfied with his pursuit of Bronya... even if the plan was her own idea.
You see. Human nature is just that contradictory. He sensed Seele's inner unease... For a girl who was insecure yet conflicted, wanting to stay by his side while also wanting Bronya to find true love. What Su Mu could do was give her a promise, a pact. No matter what, she would always hold a vital place in his heart. He would create many "firsts" and beautiful memories with her. He would tell Seele that she was a girl worthy of being loved, second to none, and a person of paramount importance to him. This was the extent of what he could do.
Sigh! To be honest, Su Mu felt this sounded like pure "scumbag" rhetoric. He felt helpless; he was essentially forced into this position. When your girlfriend begs you to be a scumbag, what else can you do? He had originally wanted to be a man of integrity, a gentleman. But Seele had come at him with a combo of forced kisses and straight-ball love talk. Who could withstand that? Even a saint would start emitting steam from such an assault. Su Mu had lived two lives, but his testosterone hadn't vanished. As a young man in his prime, how could he possibly hold back? What "cadre" could pass such a test? Since ancient times, heroes have always fallen for beauties! After all, men are driven by nature. There's a saying that men are boys until they die. Even an old man on the street will sneak a few extra looks at a beautiful woman; after all, those extra looks are supposed to extend your life! He had wanted to coexist harmoniously as a gentleman, but now he was dropping the act and laying his cards on the table. "A fair maiden is a good mate for a gentleman"... Men are visual creatures; what's wrong with that!
"Mwoo-nyan~" Su Mu felt the "kitten" in his arms move. He looked down; Seele had woken up at some point. Her face was pressed against his chest, her eyes blinking. The soft, coquettish sounds she made were incredibly cute. Mhm. Humans truly do become like this when in love—childish, saying sweet nothings that would make them blush later. Acting like a spoiled child in front of one's lover was an indispensable part of the experience.
"Not going to sleep a bit longer?" The sky was just beginning to turn grey, with a hint of white on the horizon. Seele leaned lazily against Su Mu, inhaling his scent, which made her feel immensely safe. "No, it's almost time for work, isn't it? Brother Su Mu needs to get up and prepare too." "And..." Seele paused, and Su Mu felt her cheeks grow warm. "Tonight... Seele will come over again."
Too cute. Su Mu took a deep breath, suppressing the urge to pin Seele down once more... but if he did, they would definitely be late for work. If the "Gossip Romance Trio" heard this, they would probably want to slap Su Mu's face with his employee badge. Are you even human! Such a cute girlfriend is being tender with you, and all you can think about is work! Please, act like a human! Is this job really that mandatory?
"If Seele and I skip work together, it will inevitably raise suspicions." Su Mu knew all too well that MiHoYo had that big-mouthed Elysia. That woman could never keep a secret. Basically, if there was a rumor in the company, checking with Elysia first was the right move—it was guaranteed to be her fault. And Seele couldn't go public with their relationship yet... But Su Mu had made up his mind. He was going to go all out with Bronya. This wasn't just a shift in attitude, but a shift in action. It was his answer to Seele and his respect for Bronya. From now on, time was going to accelerate.
Su Mu dressed in front of Seele. Seele didn't speak, just watched him with eyes full of affection. she lay on the bed, propping her chin with her hands, her small white feet kicking rhythmically. "Seele, I will make you happy." Su Mu suddenly spoke. "Mhm, I believe you, Brother Su Mu." Seele nodded with a smile. "After all, Seele has already obtained Brother Su Mu's most precious thing. Hehe, you have to remember, Seele was your first." "Now that Seele has tangled herself around you, you won't be able to escape her for the rest of your life."
Why is my little girlfriend so fragile-looking yet so blunt in romance? It made it seem as if Su Mu was the one who had been taken advantage of. A strange image popped into his mind: him curled up in Seele's arms while she smoked a cigarette, patting his back and saying deeply, "Don't cry, I'll take responsibility for you..." Wait, that's completely backwards!
After straightening his clothes, Su Mu went to wash up. By the time he came out of the bathroom, he felt refreshed, the fatigue of the night washed away. After all, as a "strong man," stamina and iron kidneys weren't enough; one needed excellent recovery. That was the only way to be "long-lasting"...
Su Mu planned to go downstairs to the nearby breakfast stall while Seele washed up. After half a year of Rita's "Black Tea and Scones" torture, he felt he was turning into a scone himself. He had told Rita not to bring the tea anymore; he just couldn't get used to it... Rita had looked visibly disappointed, sighing about what he would do if he couldn't adapt to that diet in the future. After all, foreign lands were different from Shenzhou... which left Su Mu baffled. He hadn't said he was moving abroad? Why did he need to adapt to a diet?
Su Mu found his phone on the sofa. Seeing it was off, he remembered Seele had turned it off last night. It's only been one night. Surely no one sent many messages. Thinking this, he turned it on, only to be hit with dozens of missed calls! Ten were from Bronya, eight from Mobius, and a few were spam calls. Dozens of WeChat messages followed.
[Bronya: I'm on a business trip for a few days. Please take care of Seele for me.]
[Bronya: I'll be in Arc City for a few days. Is there any local specialty you want?]These were from 10 PM last night.
[Bronya: Why is your phone off?]
[Bronya: I can't reach Seele either. Did something happen to her?]
[Bronya: Su Mu, what's wrong? Are you okay?]
[Bronya: Don't scare me. You didn't actually have an accident, did you!]
[Bronya: ???]
The latest message was from 1 AM. [Bronya: I've bought a plane ticket. I'm heading back to Arc City now. I should be there in the morning!]
[Bronya: You must be safe!!]
Looking at Bronya's wall of messages, Su Mu felt a cold sweat break out on his back! Then he opened Mobius's private messages.
[Mobius: Lab rat, are you okay?]
[Mobius: If you aren't dead, reply.]
[Mobius: Hey? Are you dead or what?]
[Mobius: You weren't actually kidnapped by that crazy woman Ruan Mei, were you?]
[Mobius: ???]
[Mobius: You better actually be in trouble. I tracked your signal; you should be at home. I'm on my way.]
[Mobius: Is that idiot Himeko drunk again? she doesn't even respond when I call her to open the door?!]
[Mobius: How am I supposed to get in?]
The latest message was from 5 AM. [Mobius: I'm at your door.]
The messages left Su Mu stunned. The apartment building he lived in didn't have many tenants. The reason was simple: a murder had happened there. Himeko had complained to Su Mu that a tenant on the third floor had cheated on two girls at once and was stabbed by one of them at home. The gas stove had been left on, and the girl also died of carbon monoxide poisoning. "Love? Love is a load of crap! Do you know how hard it is to rent this place out because of that!" After that, Himeko had very few tenants. The person across from Su Mu was a young girl who had just graduated. she chose the place for the same reason Su Mu had: she was poor. Back then, a fresh-out-of-college Su Mu had rented it for the same reason. Haunted house or not, poverty makes you capable of anything, right? Now, though he had earned plenty of money, Su Mu hadn't moved out. There was no special reason; he just felt that if he didn't check on his landlord Himeko occasionally, she really would die outside one day. Although his landlord caused him plenty of trouble, she had genuinely helped him during his hardest times. she even told him he could pay the rent whenever he found a job. Of course, she wasn't short on cash either. But that was one thing. Currently, Su Mu was thinking of buying a house. Now that Seele was with him, he didn't want her living here... not because he was superstitious, but because it was a studio apartment and too small for two people. He planned to discuss it with Himeko eventually.
But that wasn't the main point. The point was... Mobius's last text.
Su Mu opened his front door with trepidation, only to feel a weight leaning against it. He pushed slightly and heard something hit the floor with a "thud." He looked down to see Mobius lying on her side, still in her white lab coat. she wasn't moving... Su Mu picked her up and found her face as white as a sheet. "Mobius? What happened, Mobius??" Su Mu's shout drew Seele out. she was shocked to see Mobius on the floor. "Brother Su Mu? Who is she? Why was she at the door..."
Mobius seemed to hear the commotion. she struggled to open her eyes and reached out a trembling hand. "Star... starving..." Su Mu: "???"
"So, you couldn't reach me, so you came to find me. You finally waited for my night-shift neighbor to come home so you could get inside the building, thanked her, and then fainted at my door from low blood sugar?" Looking at the gluttonously eating Mobius, Su Mu asked tentatively.
"It's all your fault! I didn't eat all day yesterday because of experiments, then spent all night looking for you. Of course my blood sugar dropped!!" Mobius glared at Su Mu with eyes that looked ready to kill—it would have been more intimidating if she wasn't currently holding a bun.
"Brother Su Mu, I haven't heard you introduce her yet. This beautiful lady with the dark green hair is...?" Seele suddenly appeared behind Su Mu. For some reason, Su Mu felt like Seele was radiating a literal aura of frost.
"This is Mobius, a friend of Sister Himeko. I think I mentioned collaborating with Herta's studio before? Mobius is involved in the experiments too... and she's a member of the Golden Courtyard, a companion of Elysia." A clear conscience fears no ghosts. There was nothing between him and Mobius, so there was nothing to fear.
"Do you know how much effort I spent looking for this signal transmitter?? I went to the location and found it was in your car... Did you take my words as a joke? I told you to keep it on you at all times!" Mobius irritably tossed a pendant necklace onto the table. The dark green gemstone matched her hair color; it was something she always carried herself.
"Eh...?" Seele looked at the pendant. she remembered Su Mu always wearing it. But last night in the car, they had kissed; perhaps the pendant had fallen off during the struggle... No, wait. she had previously thought the pendant was something very important to Su Mu—perhaps a family heirloom. So she had never asked about it... But now, it seemed that wasn't the case. Seele looked at Mobius on the sofa. Even in a lab coat, her proud figure was hard to hide. The light-colored sweater underneath further accentuated her "water-snake" waist... That waist was like a willow branch dancing in a stream—slender and graceful! Even Seele felt a surge of envy... not to mention its terrifying lethality to men!
"I see... It seems Brother Su Mu is quite popular when Seele isn't looking, hehe..." Seele looked at Su Mu with a smile, but her eyes were chillingly cold. Su Mu thought back to the poor guy who got stabbed for cheating; his girlfriend definitely had "yandere" potential...
"Mhm? I recall your name is... Seele, right? Bronya's sister." Mobius sized up Seele. she knew some of the people at MiHoYo, though only one-sidedly. she didn't usually go out of her way to socialize.
"Eh? Sister Mobius, are you Sister Bronya's friend?" "Just acquaintances..." Mobius looked at Seele. As a woman, she naturally felt the hostility in the girl's words. Recalling the conversation Elysia and the others had in the lab, and seeing Su Mu and Seele in the same room... Mobius understood most of it instantly.
"Lab rat... I wondered why I couldn't reach you. So it was this... Do you know how afraid I was that you'd been kidnapped by that crazy Ruan Mei while I was looking for you? I almost thought you'd been taken for dissection..." "And yet here you are, enjoying yourself with your little girlfriend... I really want to punch you in the face!" Her clenched fists had veins popping out; Mobius was genuinely angry. she had been terrified all night, only to find the man having a good time. Thinking of her ordeal, her temper flared.
The smile on Seele's face widened. Mobius's words made her turn her gaze back to Su Mu. "Brother Su Mu, it seems you and Sister Mobius are on very good terms. she spent all night looking for you..." Su Mu looked helplessly at Mobius: "Explain it to her, please." Looking at Su Mu's helpless look, Mobius understood the situation. Explain? Explain what? she had a whole night's worth of resentment looking for an outlet. Mobius crossed her legs and let out a cold snort: "Explain what? You didn't even wear the gift I gave you properly, showing you don't care about me at all... Since that's the case, I don't think there's anything more to say."
Su Mu groaned inwardly. Mobius was doing this on purpose. How was he supposed to resolve this? He knew exactly how powerful it was when Seele's "vinegar jar" tipped over.
"Mhm?" Just as Su Mu was considering how to defeat the Snake, a series of urgent knocks came from the door. "Su Mu! Su Mu! Are you home? If you are, answer me!!" It was an anxious female voice, one Su Mu and Seele knew all too well.
"B-Sister Bronya?!" Seele panicked instantly, instinctively looking for a place to hide. Seeing her loss of composure, Mobius's smile turned meaningful, as if she had realized something. Mobius grabbed the fleeing Seele, making her sit back down, and placed a glass of soy milk in front of her. Su Mu was stunned, then gave Mobius a grateful look. He braced himself and opened the door.
"Su Mu?!" Standing outside was a haggard-looking "Big Duck" with swollen, red eyes. she was even dragging a suitcase, looking travel-worn as if she had just stepped off the plane.
"Bronya? I..." Su Mu was about to offer his prepared explanation when a surprisingly elastic, milk-scented body threw itself into his arms. By the time he realized what was happening, Bronya was hugging him tightly, as if afraid he would vanish if she let go. "Thank goodness... thank goodness... you're safe... I thought something happened to you... I... I..." Bronya's tears instantly soaked Su Mu's shirt. He could feel her body trembling with fear. This sudden embrace caught Su Mu off guard... and the explanation died in his throat.
He felt two gazes on him. He looked back. There was the playful Mobius and the surprised, yet oddly delighted, Seele. In his arms was the genuine emotion of a worried Bronya. On the sofa sat Mobius, who had looked for him all night. And fifteen minutes ago, he had been intimate with Seele...
Su Mu felt a surge of cold sweat. What—what kind of situation is this?? As if sensing Su Mu's overflowing awkwardness, Bronya turned her head to look into the room. In the living room. Bronya, still holding Su Mu, scanned the two women on the sofa. After passing over Mobius, her gaze met Seele's.
"Eh?" The Big Duck let out a cry of surprise. "Seele, why are you here?"
