"It's your father." Lucia's voice was shaking. Breaking. "He's had another heart attack. A bad one. You need to come to the hospital now. Mount Sinai."


Alessandro was out of bed before she finished the sentence. "How bad?"


"Bad." Her voice cracked completely. "Alessandro, I don't think he has much time. The doctors said—" She couldn't finish.


"I'm coming. I'll be there in fifteen minutes."


He threw on clothes. Called an Uber. Made it to Mount Sinai in twelve minutes that felt like twelve hours. Ran through the lobby to the elevators. Up to the cardiac ICU on the fourth floor.
