Chapter 5 - Sanctuary

Home.

Comfort.

Annoyed.

"Okay, yeah, I get it, I still need to find you a proper home," Adira shouted over the wind. Vaelys huffed before snorting in the clouds. Who knew she would get such a sassy dragon. Through the bond Adira showed she wanted to land and Vaelys followed it albeit with a little attitude. Well that plan would have to wait until next week.

Three Weeks Later

Happiness. It was all Adira felt as Vaelys dived into the clouds. This feeling was intoxicating and now she could see why it was addicting. She felt no weight or burden up here almost like she and Vaelys were one together. A bond although freshly made and fragile both could feel it strengthen along with each other's emotions.

Vaelys rumbled in anticipation for her rider to say that one magical word. Adria grinned and prepared herself. Feeling her excitement the she-dragon let out a mighty roar so loud that she had to cover her ears.

Adira and Vaelys were flying over the summer sea in the clouds enjoying the atmosphere. Seeing the vast clouds was such a breathtaking sight to take in and the air was fresh and unpolluted as the sea glimmered under the sun's bright light. Ever since Vaelys had found her they would go on flights for hours strengthening their bond to the point commands weren't really needed.

But that wasn't the only way Adira nourished their bond besides just training them would only limit it. There were books in the library she found describing multiple methods to build the relationship between dragon and rider. Such as cleaning her scales, doing tricks in the skies, or they were some including doing rituals as well.

However she knew she wasn't prepared for anything related to rituals. She whooped as darted down to the sea and giggled when she sprayed water on her. Oh how Adira loved her dragon. Vaelys let out high pitched squeals almost like that of laughter with her rider.

"Dracarys" She shouted and Vaelys spewed her hot white fire out but it didn't hurt Adira. Instead all it felt to her was hot steam and little harm came to her however that couldn't be said about her clothes that were now tattered and charred. While she wanted to continue flying with Vaelys she couldn't take the cold in the skies. (dragonfire)

"Tegon konīr, issa gevies" Adira commanded. They had been riding for a couple of hours now and she wanted to check on the eggs. (Land there, my beauty)

Vaelys slowly made her way down, prolonging the end of their ride. Adira reassured her through their bond. She guided her to the entrance of a colossal mountain of what seemed to be a stable for dragons she found yesterday when looking for a place for Vaelys. However only a few were still intact so Adira got down and led Vaelys to the biggest one.

When the mystical creature got comfortable she walked out of the stall and made her way to a doorway. After she had found the eggs and all that gold hidden cave Adira wanted to explore more of the castle. She found two more rooms that had clothes and a set of Valyrian steel armour.

Along the way she found a labyrinth closer to the dragon stable that looked to be a nursery for eggs and hatchlings. There was a book on one of the desks in the room called "Nykeā guide naejot manaeragon zaldrīzoti". Translated to How to Raise Dragons it had guides to make the right temperature for the eggs, what to feed the hatchlings, and how to bond with your dragon.

It described how to tell the emotions of a dragon and a concoction for bringing stone eggs back to life albeit with some kind of ritual. The most surprising thing was that the nursery was still intact after all these years. For Adira it felt like hitting the jackpot all she wanted to do was jump around in joy but she controlled herself. She had moved all the eggs there and placed them in their spots.

Although the dragon stable still needed a fixer upper and maybe some new accommodations. Now she was back at the dragon stables having a full stomach and with the spellbook. Adira found that her magic wasn't like how she imagined, rather it was like a mix of Harry Potter magic with that of chaos magic.

Adira focused her energy into her surroundings and repeated the words needed for it while letting the image in her mind take place. At first nothing happened but then things started to move on their own. Stalls were added and they looked new and sturdy for the dragons. Torches and stairs were added to the walls connected to the stalls. A clinic station was added to a corner so if a battle were to happen she would need to heal her dragons. The entrance to the stables had been reinforced with steel. Finally the nursery that was connected to the clinic was upgraded to house more eggs and hatchlings.

Once she was done Adira looked proudly over her hard work and Vaelys let out a rumble with pride for her rider. The she-dragon knew that her two legs would be able to restore something so great. However that joy didn't last long when blood ran down her nose. It looked like she needed to work on her magic tomorrow.

Petting her companion Adira looked at her before walking to the nursery to check on the eggs. Ever since she put them in there she made sure they were still alive by sending waves of magic to them and vice versa. Some had a spiral on them, others had extra scales on them but they all had the same trait of being bigger than other eggs.

Which meant that whichever dragon that gave birth to these eggs had to be huge. As she walked through the door she sent a wave of magic out and got multiple back. The young dragons had yet to hatch and they were already growing with magic in their veins. While checking them she noticed that some of them were close to hatching but the right requirements hadn't been met yet. This would mean she had to pick up the pace in the plan if she wanted to go to Old Valyria.

She knew at some point that Vaelys was going to lay eggs and she preferred if she laid them in after she restored Old Valyria. However that didn't mean she was just going to abandon this place. No Adira had plans to turn this into something better but they had to be pushed back for now. Her main priority was to bring back the greatest civilization brick by brick.

Returning to her room she walked to the closet and changed into a breathable nightgown. Tomorrow would be a day of importance as she was going to prepare for the journey to Voltanis. However , Adira knew she had to be cautious about this. Hidden dangers lived in the shadows there like the Red priest and Shadow binders. There was also the fear of getting found out by the Targaryens in Westeros.

Adira wasn't afraid of them rather, it was the fact that if caught, her plans would go straight to shit because she knew they would bow to the whims of sheep and their ego no matter the era. Although they didn't know of her presence yet she knew of theirs. The current ruler of the house and the Iron throne would probably demand for her to marry a male of his bloodline in order to keep the power or just outright call for her head.

Adira had no plans on getting tied down in a marriage or getting killed. It was going to be a tough pathway for the young Valeris but she knew that it would be worth it. Just to see an ancient great civilization that had perished thrive once more would be an honor for her.

The following day Adira prepared for her journey. She gathered items she would need for the stay along with the spell she would need. Vaelys would be in the air without her but Adira would still place a protection spell on the dragon in case something were to happen. Since she did not know what kind of enemy lurks in Voltanis, she would have to make her way by dragon flight in the middle of the night then travel by land as it was the only way.

Luckily she found a dragon saddle for Vaelys that was still in good shape and had bags attached to them. Putting it on though was easier said than done especially when said dragon is very sassy. Thank goodness the man she looked up to as her father taught her to saddle a horse. Unfortunately he did get into an accident with a horse that caused him to lose one of his legs.

However, that didn't stop him from teaching her. He taught her many things before he passed away from cancer. That was she knew how to hunt, fix wounds, and how to defend herself both by hand and weapons including a bow and arrow. You could say he was a survivalist to the extreme albeit a rich one at that. Now that she thought about it since she had magic, maybe that could help to put on the saddle.

With that said she let her magic spread throughout the air in swirls of a reddish purple that surrounded the saddle. She lifted it up and gently placed it upon Vaelys then held it down firmly. Climbing around her, Adira clasped the straps tightly around the she-dragon. The least she needed right now was to fall to her death in the most embarrassing way.

Once that was done she made a bow and arrow set out of the nearby woods and weeds around the island. After that she packed some of the salted fish and a waterskin she found before putting it in one of the bags. By the time she was done night had already rolled around and darkened the sky. Everything was ready and it was time to the road-well the sky to Voltanis.
