Xu Jin had searched almost every corner of his side of the stairs. Behind the lantern stalls. Under the benches. Between the food vendors. Even around the little decorative gardens beside the shrine.
Nothing.
Not a single glimpse of white fur.
His worry was beginning to turn into frustration. "Where did you run off to, little demon furball?"
He stopped near the railing and looked down the crowded steps. The festival had become even livelier as the night progressed. People were carrying lanterns, children were running between their parents, and vendors were calling out to customers.
Then Xu Jin heard something. A faint, familiar sound.
"Meow."
His head immediately turned. His expression changed.
That voice…
Another meow came from farther ahead. Xu Jin hurried toward it. A group of girls were gathered around the railing. They were laughing and crouching near something.
Xu Jin's pace quickened. He moved around them— and finally saw him.
Yun Hu.
