CHAPTER 19: THE THINGS SHE NEVER TOLD ANYONE
KEIFER'S POV
The office of Watson Enterprises looked exactly the same as always.
Cold.
Clean.
Perfect.
Keifer stood near the glass wall, looking down at the city of
Manila.
Cars moved slowly through traffic, people walked on the streets, everything normal.
But his mind wasn't normal.
It hadn't been normal since Seoul.
Since her.
Ci-n walked into the office without knocking.
"You've been standing there for ten minutes."
Keifer didn't turn.
"I told you to get me everything."
Ci-n sighed.
"I did."
Keifer finally looked at him.
"What did you find?"
Ci-n placed a file on the table.
"Not much."
Keifer frowned.
"That's impossible."
Ci-n sat down.
"No school records after she disappeared."
"No hospital records."
"No passport history for years."
"No public identity until Jae Rin appeared."
Keifer's jaw tightened.
"So she just… vanished?"
Ci-n nodded slowly.
"Yeah."
Then he added,
"Almost like someone helped her disappear."
Keifer looked at the file again.
His fingers tightened slightly.
"Find more."
Ci-n groaned.
"You've been looking for eleven years."
Keifer's voice turned cold.
"And I'll keep looking."
Ci-n stared at him.
"You really can't let her go, can you?"
Keifer didn't answer.
Because the truth was simple.
There was no Keifer without Jay.
And he was starting to realize that more and more every day.
ARIES' POV
Fernandez Corporation felt suffocating.
Meetings.
Reports.
Phone calls.
Aries sat at the conference table, barely listening.
His mind kept drifting.
Back to Seoul.
Back to the meeting.
Back to her face.
He remembered the way she said,
"My name is Jae Rin."
Like he was nobody.
Like he wasn't her brother.
His hand moved to his side without thinking.
The faint scar was still there.
The night she stabbed him.
For years he told himself she did it on purpose.
That she hated him.
That she was dangerous.
But after hearing the truth about her childhood…
After realizing how scared she must have been…
The anger didn't feel the same anymore.
It felt… wrong.
Aries closed his eyes for a second.
"She was just a kid…"
He whispered it so quietly no one heard.
JAE RIN'S POV
Back in
Seoul,
the rehearsal stage was loud.
Electric guitars blasted through the speakers.
Drums shook the floor.
Jae Rin stood in the center of the stage holding the microphone.
Her long silky hair reached almost to her knees as the fans blew it behind her.
Min Jae sat near the sound controls.
Yuna, Sora, and Jisoo were watching from the front row.
"Again from the chorus!" the producer shouted.
Jae Rin nodded.
"네!"
(Yes!)
The music started again.
Heavy rock beat.
Strong.
Powerful.
She started singing.
Her voice filled the entire hall.
Loud.
Sharp.
Confident.
Nothing like the scared girl she used to be.
Halfway through the song—
She suddenly stopped.
Her breath caught.
Her chest tightened slightly.
She turned away from the microphone and coughed.
Once.
Twice.
Min Jae stood up immediately.
"Stop."
The music stopped.
Yuna frowned.
"You okay?"
Jae Rin nodded quickly.
"괜찮아."
(I'm fine.)
Min Jae didn't look convinced.
He walked onto the stage.
"You're coughing again."
She rolled her eyes.
"연습 많이 해서 그래."
(Because of too much practice.)
Min Jae lowered his voice.
"You didn't sleep again, did you?"
She didn't answer.
That was enough.
He sighed.
"You need to rest."
She shook her head.
"컴백 얼마 안 남았어."
(Comeback is soon.)
Min Jae stared at her.
"You always say that."
Yuna crossed her arms.
"He's right."
Sora nodded.
"You look tired."
Jisoo added quietly,
"Too tired."
Jae Rin looked annoyed.
"I said I'm fine."
But her hands were slightly shaking.
Min Jae noticed.
He always noticed.
He grabbed her wrist gently.
"Jay."
Her eyes froze for a second.
He only used that name when he was serious.
"You promised you wouldn't push yourself like this again."
Her expression changed.
For a moment she looked… scared.
Then she pulled her hand away.
"I'm okay now."
Silence.
No one spoke.
Because they all remembered.
Five years ago.
The hospital.
White walls.
Machines.
Doctors talking quietly.
The word nobody wanted to hear.
Lung cancer.
Jae Rin turned away quickly.
"다시 하자."
(Let's do it again.)
Min Jae sighed but stepped back.
The music started again.
She started singing again.
Louder this time.
Stronger.
Like nothing could break her.
But when she turned slightly toward the side of the stage—
Her vision blurred for a second.
Just for a second.
She grabbed the mic tighter.
No one noticed.
Except Min Jae.
And his expression darkened.
Because he knew that look.
He had seen it before.
Five years ago.
When he almost lost her.
KEIFER'S POV
Late night in Manila.
Keifer sat alone in his office.
The city lights reflected on the glass.
The file was still open on the desk.
Jay's name written on top.
Or the name she used to have.
He flipped one page again.
Nothing.
No records.
No history.
No trace.
He leaned back in his chair.
"How did you disappear…"
He whispered it quietly.
Then he closed the file slowly.
But something inside him felt wrong.
Like the story he knew wasn't the full story.
Like something important was missing.
And he didn't know yet…
That the missing piece wasn't just about the past.
It was about the five years he never saw.
The five years when Jay fought a battle no one from Section E even knew existed.
