Chapter 268 - Chapter 268: Warmth and Naming

Xiao Jietian ignored the midwife's unfinished shout and strode directly into the palace. The Little Fairy Doctor and the other women followed closely behind him.

The Xiao family members, however, stayed outside for the moment. They surrounded the midwife and bombarded her with questions, unwilling to miss a single detail.

Inside the spacious bedchamber, Yun Yun and Ya Fei lay side by side on the wide bed. Between them rested two small swaddles, each cradling a freshly born infant girl.

Both women looked slightly pale from the exertion, yet their tired faces bore the gentlest, most radiant smiles. Their gazes were fixed on the wide-open eyes of their daughters—eyes already bright and alert, as was common for children born to powerful cultivators. (In this world, newborns opening their eyes at birth, or even taking a few steps right away, was nothing unusual. Argue if you want; you'd still be right in your own way.)

Xiao Jietian hurried to their bedside and knelt down. Seeing their weary yet content expressions, his eyes softened with deep tenderness and heartache.

He reached out, gently brushed the sweat-dampened strands of hair from their foreheads, stroked their heads lovingly, and pressed soft kisses to each of their brows.

"Yun'er, Feier… you've worked so hard."

Without delay, he took out the recovery pills he had prepared long ago and carefully placed one into each of their mouths. As the medicinal power quickly circulated, color gradually returned to their faces.

Yun Yun looked up at him, exhaustion mingling with profound relief in her eyes.

"Seeing her… it feels like everything was worth it." Her gaze drifted to the tiny infant beside her, and a smile bloomed on her lips like a spring flower in full blossom.

Ya Fei's slender finger gently teased the little one in her arms. Her eyes shimmered with the longing and overwhelming happiness only a new mother could feel.

"Yes… just looking at her makes me so happy. It's only a pity we weren't strong enough to give you a son."

Hearing those words, Xiao Jietian immediately took both of their hands in his. His gaze was filled with comfort and boundless love.

"Yun'er, Feier, don't ever think like that. The gender of the child means nothing to me. Boy or girl—they are our blood, the continuation of our lives, the most precious and unique existences in this world. What matters most to me is your safety and your happiness."

"They are both my treasures. I will walk with them as they grow, and I will protect all of you for the rest of my life."

His voice was steady yet gentle, every word wrapped in sincere affection.

In truth, Xiao Jietian had never particularly preferred sons. If anything, he secretly hoped for daughters—he already knew he would become the most hopelessly doting father imaginable.

The warmth of his hands and the love in his words pierced straight through the faint shadow of disappointment in their hearts, filling them with radiant light.

Both women lifted their heads. Tears of emotion glistened in their eyes as they tightly gripped his hands in return.

The Little Fairy Doctor and the others stood nearby, smiling softly at the tender scene.

Just then, the two infant girls seemed to sense the overwhelming love surrounding them. From within their swaddles came two soft, delighted giggles.

In an instant, the entire bedchamber was bathed in an indescribable sense of happiness.

"Little Brother Jietian, look how happily they're laughing," Ya Fei said with a gentle smile, watching the two tiny mouths curve upward in unison.

Xiao Jietian extended a finger and lightly tickled their soft, pink little palms. The infants instinctively curled their tiny hands around his finger, as though responding to their father's touch.

That small, trusting gesture sent a powerful wave through Xiao Jietian's heart—excitement, thrill, overwhelming joy of new fatherhood… and above all, a profound sense of responsibility.

He carefully lifted both girls into his arms, channeling warm wood-attribute Dou Qi beneath them like a gentle cradle to support their fragile bodies. He rocked them softly.

The two little ones moved their small mouths, then shifted slightly in his hold, instinctively searching for the most comfortable position.

Watching their innocent movements, Xiao Jietian smiled with infinite gentleness.

"You two must grow up quickly. Then Daddy will take you out to play."

The Little Fairy Doctor and the others gathered around Yun Yun and Ya Fei, offering endless comfort and congratulations.

Xiao Jietian, still cradling his daughters, teased them gently while listening to the women's soft conversation.

In this moment, he truly understood: the essence of happiness was exactly this—a beloved wife, adorable children, and a warm home.

Later, the women took the infants from his arms. Han Yue and the Little Fairy Doctor each held one. Even the usually aloof Medusa couldn't resist coming closer, constantly teasing the babies with gentle pokes and soft coos.

Xiao Jietian sat on the edge of the bed, one arm around each of his wives. Yun Yun and Ya Fei leaned their heads against his shoulders, watching their daughters being fussed over, occasionally exchanging quiet words.

"Which one was born first?" Xiao Jietian asked softly.

"Sister Yun's little one came first," Ya Fei answered with a smile.

They had chosen to give birth on the same bed, supporting and encouraging each other through the entire process.

"Alright then," Xiao Jietian nodded gently. "You two should name them."

Yun Yun and Ya Fei exchanged a knowing glance. They had already discussed this long ago.

Yun Yun spoke first, her voice soft and warm.

"My daughter will be called Xiao Ling. Sister Ya Fei's will be Xiao Meng."

Xiao Jietian silently repeated the names in his heart.

Ling — resilient, pure, like the water chestnut that blooms beautifully even in muddy waters; tough yet graceful.

Meng — dreamlike beauty, hope, a life full of color, aspiration, and endless possibility.

"Perfect names," he murmured, gazing at the two tiny pink faces. Their little noses wrinkled adorably, their mouths curved in constant smiles from all the teasing. "So adorable already… they'll definitely grow up to be stunning beauties, just like their mothers."

Once everything was confirmed stable, Xiao Jietian allowed Xiao Zhan, Xiao Li, Xiao Ding, and the rest of the family to come inside.

"My two daughters-in-law, you've truly worked hard," Xiao Zhan said earnestly to Yun Yun and Ya Fei the moment he entered. Then his eyes immediately locked onto the infants in Han Yue's and Little Fairy Doctor's arms, shining with barely contained excitement.

The two women carefully passed Xiao Ling and Xiao Meng to him.

Xiao Zhan suddenly looked flustered—two granddaughters, which one to hold first? In the end, he simply did as Xiao Jietian had earlier: one in each arm. His face split into the widest, most foolish grin imaginable.

Xiao Jietian briefly told him the names.

Xiao Li leaned toward Xiao Ding and "whispered" (loud enough for everyone to hear):

"See? I told you Father only likes girls. Now that he has granddaughters—two of them at once—he's practically glowing."

Xiao Ding nodded solemnly.

"I'm telling you, back when Xiao Yanzi and Little Tianzi were born, the midwife announced they were boys and Father's face just… dropped."

Xiao Zhan's expression darkened for a split second. He shot the two a glare, then immediately switched back to a beaming smile as he looked down at the precious bundles in his arms.

The rest of the room burst into laughter at the familiar family banter.

After Xiao Zhan had his fill, the others took turns holding the babies. Both infants seemed to sense that everyone present was family; they remained calm and content in each pair of arms.

Eventually, the visitors handed the children back and quietly left.

Xiao Jietian gently placed the now-sleeping infants back between their mothers.

"Yun'er, Feier, you two should rest now as well."

The women nodded, exhaustion finally overtaking them. They soon drifted into peaceful slumber.

The other women also withdrew quietly.

Ding.
