Seraphine just stared at him, kind of speechless. With everything going on, threats circling the pack, the constant pressure, the never-ending list of shit they had to deal with, Voren was still thinking about the promise their wolves made them keep after the full moon festival. It caught her off guard in the best way.
"I can't believe you're thinking about Marsha and Bloodfang's request when there's so much still left to handle."
Voren sat down next to her on the edge of the cabin bed and pulled her right onto his lap. His hands settled on her hips, thumbs rubbing slow circles like he needed the contact. When he looked at her, that usual hard edge in his eyes softened.
"Sera, this is our life. We were born for violence. Born to fight and bleed and protect. But when we were apart, I learned something I ain't about to forget."
"And what's that?" she asked, quieter than she meant to.
