Chapter 105 - Chapter 105: The Safari Zone

I have posted 5 chapters today, enjoy.

Sam chose to hide the truth about Mewtwo and Deoxys.

To Ash and the others, he simply said the emerald was the meteorite that had fallen from the sky.

Ash stared at the gemstone in Sam's hand with envy.

"I hope I can pick up a meteorite next time!"

Sam chuckled. "Then you'll have to run even faster, Ash."

He rubbed his temples and yawned.

The core had absorbed a large amount of his energy earlier, and exhaustion was finally catching up to him.

"Let's move," Sam said. "Ash, Misty, Brock—let's find somewhere else to camp."

Ash blinked. "Why not camp here? The environment isn't bad."

Misty immediately smacked her forehead.

"Idiot! That meteorite made a huge impact. People will be swarming here soon. Do you want trouble?"

What she didn't say was even more important.

If too many people arrived and discovered Sam had taken the meteorite, someone with bad intentions might target him.

"Alright, alright," Ash said. "Let's go."

---

In the basement of Viridian Gym

"Still not found?"

There was no emotion in Giovanni's voice.

"Yes."

Mewtwo stood tall, unafraid. It met Giovanni's gaze directly.

"If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving."

Without waiting for permission, Mewtwo turned and walked away.

Giovanni watched its retreating figure, his eyes cold and calculating.

---

The Safari Zone near Fuchsia City in the Kanto Region was vast—almost entirely enclosed and preserved in its natural state.

Many rare Pokémon could be found there.

Rumors even claimed that the elusive Dratini lived somewhere within its depths.

"Dratini… It would be amazing if I could catch one!" Ash said excitedly.

Misty rolled her eyes.

"Keep dreaming. If Dratini really lived here, Trainers would have combed the place clean already. It's probably just a rumor to attract visitors."

She wasn't wrong.

A Dragon-type Pokémon like Dratini was more than rare—it was the kind of discovery that could make a Trainer famous overnight.

If one had truly been confirmed here, news would have spread like wildfire.

After entering the Safari Zone, staff members greeted them.

Any citizen of the Pokémon League could enter by paying an admission fee of 500 Poké Dollars.

However, there was a strict rule:

Only Safari Balls issued by the Safari Zone could be used to catch Pokémon.

Using any other Poké Ball would result in severe penalties.

The entry fee was cheap enough for almost anyone.

But the real profits came from selling Safari Balls.

The basic Safari Ball included with admission was low quality. Catching even a weak Magikarp with it would be difficult.

So most Trainers purchased higher-grade Safari Balls.

"The highest quality one costs 20,000 Poké Dollars?!" Ash gasped.

Even someone like Ash—who wasn't particularly money-conscious—knew that was an astronomical price.

Neither he nor Sam could afford that.

In the end, they chose Safari Balls priced at 2,000 Poké Dollars each. More expensive than regular Poké Balls, but still manageable.

Rare Pokémon were worth the investment.

Sam, however, only bought five.

Unlike Ash, he wasn't particularly interested in catching anything here.

He was more curious about the rumored Dratini in the Dragon's Den area.

And even then—

He had no intention of capturing it.

If he remembered correctly, that Dratini still lived with its mother.

Forcing a Pokémon to leave its family never felt right to him.

A forced capture was like a forced fruit—no matter how impressive, it wouldn't taste sweet.

Looking back, none of Sam's Pokémon had been captured through brute force.

Tyranitar and Gengar had come from the system.

Venusaur had been entrusted to him by Professor Oak.

Clefable had chosen to travel with him.

Scyther had joined for strength.

Charmeleon had been abandoned.

Lapras had been entrusted to him by Lorelei.

Every one of them had followed him willingly.

"Maybe I really do have protagonist treatment…" Sam muttered with a small smile.

---

"Misty! Brock! Come quick! There are Tauros here!"

Ash's voice echoed across the grasslands.

For some reason, Ash seemed particularly fond of Tauros.

It was also worth mentioning:

Battles were strictly forbidden in the Safari Zone.

If you wanted to catch a Pokémon, you had to rely on bait, rocks, positioning—or simply throw a Safari Ball and hope for the best.

Catching energetic Pokémon was notoriously difficult.

That meant Trainers usually had to expend large numbers of Safari Balls.

"I caught it!"

Ash held up a Safari Ball that had stopped shaking, grinning from ear to ear.

Sam froze.

Wait.

Wasn't it supposed to be hard to catch Pokémon with just one ball?

Ash had thrown one.

One.

And caught it.

Sam stared in disbelief.

Is this the legendary one-ball miracle?

Or is Ash secretly blessed by the Pokémon gods?

He suddenly felt that normal logic did not apply to Ash Ketchum.
