"Dratini, use Dragon Rage!"
"Omanyte, quickly retract into your shell!"
The moment Sam arrived in Viridian Forest, he wasted no time and began special training.
He sent the rest of his Pokémon off to find suitable opponents within the forest. Only Dratini remained by his side.
Omanyte was the perfect sparring partner.
At first, Yellow had no intention of capturing Omanyte. But after some persuasion from Sam, she finally decided to catch it as her very first Pokémon.
Talent truly was something mysterious.
It was clearly Yellow's first real Pokémon battle, yet from a beginner's perspective, her performance was nearly flawless.
Was this the power of the Viridian heir?
It was honestly enviable.
Dragon Rage condensed into a golden sphere of energy and shot forward. However, at Yellow's command, Omanyte instantly withdrew into its shell, minimizing the damage.
Yellow's battle sense was excellent.
But she also had a major weakness—
She was too kind.
In battle, she rarely chose to press the attack. Instead, she preferred to defend and counter, gradually building advantage. It was the complete opposite of a certain reckless Trainer from Pallet Town.
Today, Sam intended to teach her something important.
Defense mattered.
But true victory required decisive offense.
"Dratini, Twister!"
Dratini's control over Twister had improved tremendously.
Its eyes glowed as a violent vortex erupted around Omanyte. Caught off guard, Omanyte was swept into the air, spinning helplessly within the storm.
The cutting winds and turbulent rotation quickly drained its strength.
"Finish it—Dragon Rage!"
The golden blast struck Omanyte at the center of the vortex.
Without suspense, Omanyte lost its ability to battle.
"Omanyte!"
Yellow hurried forward anxiously.
After carefully checking it over and confirming it had only fainted from exhaustion, she let out a relieved sigh.
A soft emerald glow radiated from her hands as she channeled energy into Omanyte's body. Under the healing power of Viridian Forest, Omanyte recovered almost instantly.
Sam couldn't help but marvel.
"The legendary power of Viridian… it's truly terrifying."
Even Clefable couldn't restore a Pokémon that quickly without side effects.
Yellow's healing ability surpassed most medical Pokémon.
"Yellow," Sam said seriously, "don't use that power casually in front of others. It could easily attract unwanted attention."
Yellow smiled brightly.
"I know. But Brother Sam isn't just anyone."
Sam shook his head helplessly.
What an innocent girl.
---
Legends spoke of powerful Pokémon dwelling deep within Viridian Forest.
They resided in a forbidden zone—an area no ordinary Trainer dared enter. Anyone who trespassed risked their life.
Sam had heard the tale during his first visit. Back then, he hadn't been strong enough to even consider investigating.
Now, things were different.
With Bangila's current strength, few Pokémon could pose a real threat.
And for Bangila to grow further, it needed powerful opponents. Training alone would no longer suffice.
After saying goodbye to Yellow and the fishing uncle, Sam ventured alone into the forest's deepest reaches.
Adventure awaited.
---
The deeper he went, the darker it became.
Near the forest's edge, sunlight filtered through gaps in the canopy.
But here—
There was no sunlight at all.
Only faint fluorescent plants illuminated the path underfoot.
Not long after entering, Sam heard it.
"Hiss… hiss…"
The unmistakable sound of a serpent.
He stayed alert. In any world, snakes were creatures to fear.
"Bangila, can you locate it?" Sam asked quietly.
Bangila nodded.
Yellow sand gathered in its palms. With a light squeeze, the grains scattered in all directions, infused with its energy.
The drifting sand became Bangila's eyes.
Moments later—
It found something.
Without hesitation, Bangila swung its arm.
A blade of sand sliced through the darkness, cutting trees and underbrush cleanly in half as it tore toward a shadowed corner.
The hidden Pokémon could no longer remain concealed.
It burst out—
Arbok.
In midair, Arbok flared the terrifying pattern on its hood, attempting to intimidate its opponent.
Unfortunately for it—
It had chosen the wrong target.
Bangila calmly reached forward and grabbed Arbok by the neck.
Caught at its vital point, Arbok panicked and thrashed violently.
Bangila's expression remained cold.
It slammed Arbok into the ground.
The impact nearly knocked it unconscious.
And in the suffocating darkness of Viridian's forbidden depths—
The true challenge had only just begun.
