The group ran across the unfinished ring road where dirt still lay exposed, until the priest suddenly came to a stop.
Everyone stopped running with him.
Placing their hands on their knees, they tried to calm their still-pounding hearts through deep breaths.
"This building won't collapse tonight. We'll rest here."
Following the priest's gaze, the youths saw an apartment building ahead of them.
Its cracked exterior spread like a spiderweb across the walls, and the structure stood barely upright like an old man leaning on a cane.
We're spending the night in a place like this?
Messiah muttered inwardly.
Yet the priest walked straight into the apartment building without the slightest hesitation.
"Is this thing really gonna stay standing until morning?"
Messiah asked as Maria held onto his hand.
"If we're together, even being buried alive wouldn't be so bad, right?"
Maria smiled softly.
The two tightened their grip on each other's hands and walked toward the shattered automatic entrance of the dusty apartment building.
