Chapter 76 - Chapter 76: The Serpent’s Strike and the Hollow Earth

The dawn over the Frost Kingdom was not a gradual light, but a sudden, blinding explosion of silver against the white peaks. The air was so cold it felt like inhaling powdered diamonds, sharp enough to make the lungs ache with every breath.

In the royal courtyard, Riha stood checking the straps of her new Hunting Armor. Unlike her heavy battle regalia, this set was made of lightweight, reinforced leather lined with white drake-fur. It was flexible, dyed a deep midnight violet that stood out sharply against the snow. Wrapped snugly around her neck was a soft, hand-woven scarf in shades of teal and cream, a gift from the Frost Kingdom's master weavers. It felt warm against her skin, smelling faintly of pine needles and dried lavender.

Beside her, Tinker was doing his best to look like he wasn't shivering, his hands tucked into the pockets of a sleek black duster. Kaelen, Valerius, and Ignazio sat atop their massive, six-legged Glacier Steeds, their crimson hair flowing like blood-stained silk in the wind.

"We move toward the Heart of the Tundra," Kaelen announced, his breath forming a thick cloud. "Stay close. The snow here doesn't just hide predators; it hides the ground itself."

The Silver Ride

The forest was a cathedral of frozen pines, their branches sagging under the weight of ancient ice. As they rode, the group's spirits were high. Riha felt a rare sense of freedom, the rhythm of the horse beneath her and the crisp wind on her face washing away the lingering dread of her visions.

They didn't have to wait long for action. A pack of Snow Wolf Monsters—beasts the size of small carriages with eyes like glowing blue embers—burst from the treeline.

"Don't kill the leaders!" Valerius shouted, drawing his heavy broadsword. "Break their formation!"

Riha didn't reach for her staff. Instead, she raised her hand, and from the wrist-guards of her armor, she fired a shimmering strand of Enhanced Spider Silk. Over the last few days, she had updated the silk, infusing it with Void-energy to make it nearly indestructible. It hummed through the air, wrapping around the front legs of a leaping wolf and pulling it into a somersault.

"Nice aim, Noona!" Tinker shouted, kicking his own horse into a gallop and using a burst of fox-fire to singe the fur of another beast.

They rode deeper, the forest growing denser and the light more ethereal. While the others celebrated the small victories, Riha's eyes remained fixed on the horizon. She was scanning the white wilderness, her mental domain spread out like a net, searching for the vibration of falling water.

The Secret of the Falls

Kaelen slowed his steed, pulling up alongside her. He had been watching her for miles, noticing the way her eyes lingered on the mountain clefts.

"You've been quiet, Riha," Kaelen said, a small, knowing smirk playing on his lips. "You didn't come all this way just to chase wolves. You're hesitant to ask me something. Just ask it already."

Riha sighed, the steam of her breath clouding the air. "I heard a legend... about a waterfall in this kingdom. One where the water doesn't follow the laws of gravity. Do you know where it is?"

Kaelen chuckled, a rare, warm sound. "The Falls of the First Breath. My father told me stories of them when I was a child. It is a rare thing for anyone to find them, Riha. They aren't on any map."

He looked toward the jagged peaks of the North. "It is said the Falls test the soul of the seeker. They cannot be found by eyes or maps; they can only be found by someone who meets the 'requirements.' The land itself decides if you are worthy to see the truth. Many have searched for a lifetime and found nothing but snow."

Riha felt a thrill of excitement. The Fox was right—it was a trial of the mind.

The Rabbit and the Fang

Suddenly, a flash of pure white darted across the path. A Snow Rabbit, with ears tipped in silver and fur as soft as a cloud, stopped ten feet away, twitching its pink nose.

"Oh! Look how cute it is!" Riha whispered, her "Villainess" mask completely melting away.

She slid down from her horse with practiced grace, moving slowly so as not to startle the creature. She reached into her wrist-guard, preparing a strand of her spider silk. "I'm not going to hurt you, little fluff-ball. I just want to see if you're real."

She crept closer, her silk held ready to gently loop around the rabbit's paws. But as she leaned forward, the air around her suddenly turned deathly cold—not the cold of winter, but the cold of a grave.

"Noona! MOVE!" Tinker screamed.

His voice wasn't human. In a blur of silver light, Tinker abandoned his human form, his body expanding and shifting into the Triple-Tailed Fox Spirit. He lunged through the air, his violet-fire tails trailing like comets.

From a frozen crevice just inches from Riha's boot, a massive, iridescent serpent lunged. It was the Ice Poison King Kala, a legendary predator whose venom could freeze a person's blood in seconds. Its fangs were bared, dripping with glowing blue liquid.

Tinker's fox form slammed into the snake mid-air, their momentum carrying them directly into the center of the snowy clearing.

"Tinker!" Riha cried out, reaching for her staff.

But the weight of the two powerful spirits colliding was too much for the terrain. The ground beneath them didn't just crack—it vanished. The clearing was actually a "sinkhole," a massive hollow cavern hidden by a thin layer of permafrost.

Riha, who was standing on the edge, felt the snow give way. She grabbed for the rabbit, then for a tree root, but the ice was too slick. With a sharp gasp, she tumbled into the darkness, followed by the tangled forms of the Fox and the Serpent.

The Descent

The fall felt endless. Riha plummeted through the freezing dark, the wind whistling past her ears. Above her, she heard the frantic shouts of Kaelen and the Red Brothers.

"RIHA! TINKER!" Kaelen's voice echoed, growing fainter as she fell deeper into the earth.

She hit a slope of soft, ancient snow, sliding downward into the bowels of the mountain. She crashed into something warm and furry—Tinker, who had reverted to his smaller fox form to shield her. They tumbled together until they finally hit a floor of solid, glowing crystal.

Silence reclaimed the cavern.

Back on the surface, Kaelen stared at the gaping black hole in the forest floor. "Commander! Get the ropes! General, call the search teams!"

Kaelen's face was pale, his icy composure shattered. He looked down into the abyss, his heart hammering with a fear he hadn't felt in the arena. The Empress was gone, swallowed by the mountain, and in the frozen silence of the Tundra of Whispers, the hunt had turned into a desperate race for survival.

Riha opened her eyes in the dark, feeling the pulse of the violet hairpin against her temple. She was alive, but as she looked up at the tiny speck of light far above, she realized she wasn't just in a cave. She could hear it—the distant, haunting roar of water falling... upward.
