Chapter 81 - Chapter 81: The Sovereign’s Ascent

The silence of the Tundra was broken not by the wind, but by a violent eruption of violet light. Five miles from the nearest outpost, the ground groaned as a pillar of pure, abyssal energy tore through the permafrost, vaporizing the ice in a hundred-yard radius.

From the center of the steaming crater, Riha stepped onto the surface. She was no longer the exhausted girl who had fallen into the dark. Her hunting armor was pristine, but her aura had shifted; it was heavier, laced with the ancient weight of a thousand star-cycles. In her arms, Tinker lay sleeping, his fur glowing with a faint silver vitality.

"The air is thin up here," Riha whispered, her voice carrying a double resonance—her own youthful tone and a deep, melodic echo from the First Sovereign hidden within her soul.

"I know," she replied to herself, a small smirk playing on her lips. "But we have a planet to save."

The Return to the Crystal Spire

By the time Riha reached the gates of the Frost Palace, the kingdom was in an uproar. Prince Kaelen had been leading search parties for thirty-six hours, and the Red Brothers had mobilized the entire Royal Guard. When the guards saw a lone figure walking through the blizzard without a cloak, surrounded by a shimmering violet heat-haze, they nearly raised their spears in fear.

"Lower your weapons!" Kaelen's voice thundered from the balcony. He leaped down, his ice-mana propelling him forward until he skidded to a halt in front of her.

He looked at her—at the way the snow melted before it could touch her skin, and at the sleeping fox in her arms. His icy eyes narrowed, sensing a power that made his own Galaxy-level potential feel like a flickering candle.

"Riha," he breathed, his voice a mix of relief and suspicion. "Where were you? We thought the mountain had claimed you."

"The mountain tried," Riha said, her eyes flashing a deep, regal crimson. "But I found what I was looking for. And I found a reason to hurry."

Kaelen stepped back, his hand instinctively moving to the hilt of his sword. "You've changed. Your mana... it feels like the First Breath itself."

"There's no time for explanations, Kaelen," Riha said, walking past him toward the throne room. "I need to see your father. Now."

The King's Audience

The King of the Frost Kingdom sat upon his throne of eternal ice, flanked by Commander Valerius and General Ignazio. As Riha entered, the two brothers immediately straightened, their veteran instincts screaming that the woman before them was no longer just an Empress—she was a force of nature.

"Empress Riha," the King said, his voice echoing in the cold hall. "My son tells me you vanished into a sinkhole and returned with the power of an ancient era. What did you find in the dark?"

Riha stood in the center of the hall, her presence commanding every eye in the room. "I found the truth of this planet's core, and the threat that sleeps beneath the Snake Islands. Your legends of the First Breath are real, King. But so is the catastrophe that follows it."

She looked at the gathered leaders. "I have stayed in your kingdom as a guest, but the time for vacation is over. The stars are shifting, and the Snake Clan is moving to resurrect a ghost that will devour this world. I must return to the Shadow Kingdom immediately to prepare my defenses."

The King leaned forward. "You speak of the Great Devourer? The one the Snake Clan worships?"

"I speak of my predecessor's husband," Riha said, a statement that caused the Red Brothers to exchange confused glances. "He is waking, and when he does, your ice will be the first thing he melts. I suggest you bolster your borders and keep your knights ready. The next time we meet, it will likely be on a battlefield."

Preparation for Departure

The palace was a whirlwind of activity. Riha refused the King's offer of a grand farewell banquet. Instead, she retreated to her chambers to pack her few belongings, her mind already halfway across the continent.

Tinker finally stirred in her lap, stretching his paws and letting out a long yawn. He looked up at her, his amber eyes clear and bright.

"You did it, Noona," he chirped, his mental voice stronger than ever. "I feel like I could jump over the moon. Though... I still think you should have let me bite that snake's head off."

"You were busy dying, Tinker," Riha teased, though she scratched him behind the ears with genuine affection. "But you're safe now. And you're stronger. The First Sovereign left a fragment of her spirit in you as well."

"I can feel it," Tinker said, his tails fluffing up. "I'm not just a Fox Spirit anymore. I'm a Guardian."

A knock at the door interrupted them. Kaelen stood there, looking more solemn than usual. He held a small, ornate box made of black ice.

"My father's gift," he said, handing it to her. "It contains a Frost-Core—a source of infinite cold. He says if the world is truly ending, you might need it to keep your heart steady."

Riha took the box, feeling the intense chill radiating through the wood. "Thank you, Kaelen. And thank you for not giving up on the search."

Kaelen looked at her for a long moment. "I didn't do it for the alliance, Riha. I did it because... well, a world without you would be incredibly boring." He turned to leave, then stopped. "The EMV is waiting at the station. My brothers will escort you to the border."

Heading Home

The journey back to the station was silent. The Red Brothers rode on either side of the royal carriage, their red hair vivid against the falling snow. As Riha boarded the high-speed train, she looked back at the Crystal Spire one last time.

She had arrived as a Sovereign seeking power, but she was leaving as the anchor of a planet's survival. Within her, the seven incarnations were already beginning their long cultivation beneath the Life Tree, their energy flowing into her through the spiritual tether.

"Let's go home," Riha said as the train began to hum.

"To the Shadow Kingdom?" Tinker asked, curling up on the seat beside her.

"To the war room," Riha corrected. "The Snake Clan thinks they are resurrecting a King. They don't realize they've already awakened an Empress."

As the train blurred into a streak of silver, heading south toward the heart of her empire, Riha closed her eyes. She could feel the pulse of the planet, and far to the east, the rhythmic, poisonous heartbeat of a King who was finally opening his eyes. The battle was about to begin, and for the first time, Riha was ready for the end of the world.
