Chapter 217 - Chapter 16: Strategies Derived from Horse Racing

Dealing with a criminal organization located in the slums didn't even require Mori Tsukisa to lift a finger.

After releasing the Little Sprites and Mori Tsukisa finding her way, the large, two-story wooden house was left with only piles of headless corpses and broken limbs.

"The Master is cruel, and the Attendants are just as cruel."

"You just hate the mess, Butt Demon." Mori Tsukisa grabbed the little black cat and pretended to throw it into the bloody water. Sure enough, every short black hair on its body stood up, and in an instant... the black cat turned into a sea urchin.

"Bastet, the Sea Urchin of the Dark Night, God of Nutrition in the Ocean, the blood-pressure-lowering heretic who controls tides and protein..."

"Shut up!"

The person and the cat walked into the silent wooden house. When they passed the Little Sprites on the tables and corpses—the ones who were currently moving the organization's only valuables—they would put down what they were holding and bow to Mori Tsukisa first.

If one ignored the huge gold ring behind Kina, her expression was quite respectful.

"Planeswalker, you and your Attendants are simply Bandits."

"What does that have to do with me? They like it themselves." Mori Tsukisa rolled her eyes. Kina, standing nearby, chimed in indignantly. The gold ring she held in her arms even had a small tooth mark on it.

It went without saying who had bitten it.

"As a qualified Attendant," Kina said, struggling to move while carrying the ring and confronting Bastet, looking shaky all over: "One must learn to serve one's Master. What's wrong with that?"

"Right? Your Majesty the Queen."

"Oh..." Mori Tsukisa mused: "That's reasonable. No wonder you collect so much gold."

"It's all yours!" Kina laughed loudly: "Your Majesty the Queen can use it to buy a few pretty girls!"

"Girls?" The black cat turned its head, staring at Mori Tsukisa with a half-smile: "Your Attendant knows you very well."

Mori Tsukisa rolled her eyes.

Suddenly, a skinny black and White Shadow carefully avoided the fragmented corpses covering the floor, took elegant little steps, and jumped onto the table.

Its body slowly lowered, approached, and touched Kina, who had just set down the ring, with its nose tip.

That was a tuxedo cat.

"Huh? Your—"

"Not my kind! I am a God!"

"Hehe... it's a bit smaller than you." Mori Tsukisa felt a little mischievous. After putting Bastet down, she quietly circled behind the tuxedo cat and swiftly reached out—

And pinched its tail!

After the kitten turned its head, swearing, it saw the girl standing innocently in place, her finger... pointing at Bastet, who was already starting to feel uneasy.

"It did it."

Sure enough, the little cow-patterned cat believed it. It growled fiercely a few times, raised its two paws, and pounced toward Bastet!

"Mori Tsukisa! You bastard!"

Bastet, who had been kicked in the face several times, didn't hold back either. She extended her little paw pads and gave the cow cat a few strikes—the two cats were entangled, cursing and hitting each other, kicking bellies... the tabletop was extremely lively for a moment.

"Sigh, Aria's droopy-faced cat isn't as rude as it." Making sarcastic remarks, Mori Tsukisa quietly retreated and headed from the hallway to the second floor.

Compared to the first floor, the second floor appeared much cleaner. Ignoring the corpses, the room could be considered tidy; a bit of dust in the corners was unavoidable.

The wooden floorboards creaked underfoot, and the oil lamp burned anxiously. On a rectangular desk, a few slips of paper were scattered.

[Find the box, bring it to me.]

The letter provided several specific names, including herself and Evelyn—the end of the letter was stamped with a strange symbol.

It was a... scale?

"Anoubis?..." The black cat had followed at some point. She lay quietly not far from the oil lamp, her deep green eyes appearing even more profound in the flickering light.

She walked over, lowered her head, and read it carefully. A small paw print, like a plum blossom, was stamped over the scales.

"He's called Anubis now, Anubis, Guardian of the Duat," the black cat looked at Mori Tsukisa. "A thousand years ago, His followers used the scales as a symbol representing Him."

Anubis, Guardian of the Duat?

The spirit who guides the dead into the Afterlife, the God of Funerals, He Who is Upon His Mountain, the Judge of the Place of Embalming.

The most widely known is His 'Weighing of the Heart'—in this ritual, Anubis, Guardian of the Duat will weigh the heart of the deceased to see if it is lighter or heavier than the ostrich feather symbolizing Ma'at (Truth).

If the deceased soul did good deeds throughout its life, the heart would be lighter than the feather; otherwise, it would be heavier.

The consequences of good and bad need not be said; for thousands of years, every religion has taught that good people are happy and smiling, while bad people are miserable and suffering.

Though reality is mostly not like that.

So, this box... is also related to the followers of Anubis, Guardian of the Duat?

Are Eve and I being targeted?

Is that dog-headed freak looking for me?

"It's a jackal, black, with pointed ears, a thin belly, and a long body... a jackal. Miss Sen, did you really read the history of Ancient Egypt?" The black cat squinted. "A deity belonging to the Underworld. However, things are too strange... Anubis, Guardian of the Duat?"

Bastet tucked her paws in seriously, her tail swaying uneasily. Her shadow, cast on the wall by the firelight, appeared quite long.

"My god box was crafted by Anubis, Guardian of the Duat, so He should also know how to release the divine power fragments inside."

Mori Tsukisa pulled over a chair and sat down. "You mean that dog-head is planning to steal your treasure?"

"It's a jackal... forget it." Bastet sighed. "I don't know. Since I woke up, I haven't seen any other gods."

In an era where the gods have vanished, even a tiny bit of power that was once looked down upon might become the fuse for a war.

Would Anubis, Guardian of the Duat really set his sights on his own god box?

Mori Tsukisa leaned toward an affirmative answer. The other party was clearly looking for this 'key,' likely with the same purpose as Bastet—to extract information about the god box and the descendants of those humans from that thousand-year-old priest.

It just so happened that Mr. Abdullah from this organization encountered Mori Tsukisa.

"If it's Anubis, Guardian of the Duat, we need to speed up our actions..." The black cat's deep eyes looked out the window. "He should be like me, having lost some power, which is why He wants to take some of my fragments."

"Maybe he even used a divine descent."

divine descent?

Mori Tsukisa looked at the black cat.

"Can you beat a big black dog?" The girl patted her head, a bit worried. "I can help you."

The black cat, who hesitated to speak, was about to say something when the girl began counting on her fingers. "I've read an ancient book from the Far East that contains many strategies for war. I think we can do it like this."

Her palms waved, and her two index fingers separated for comparison.

"It's a story about a king who won a bet through a horse race."

The girl's left index finger moved. "In the first round, the superior horse against..."

The right index finger moved. "...against the inferior horse."

"In the second round, the superior horse against the average horse."

"Finally, the superior horse against... the superior horse."

"That way, he won the race."

Bastet was already used to Mori Tsukisa's crazy talk.

"You mean we are all superior horses on our side?" The black cat flicked her tail. "Actually, there's no need for such a lineup—"

"We? No," Mori Tsukisa shook her head, pointing at Bastet. "Only you are the superior horse; you're a god, after all."

Bastet:...So from start to finish, it's just me one-on-three?

"And you? What are you responsible for?"

The girl pressed her palms together, her thick eyelashes fluttering as she closed her eyes.

"Praying for you."

"...Stretch out your hand and let me bite you."
