I sat in my seat, dumbfounded by what just happened. It is not that I did not like it, but this was very unexpected.
I knew that my journey to Necroforce would bring many experiences but this was not in my bingo card.
"We have enough time to think about ourselves." Yaagnar said with a wide smirk. "How are we going to survive the academy? I know how much you disdain signing into factions. I got branded by Maelstrom so I have one less thing to worry about."
I look surprised by his words because I planned on doing this on my own and he's over here building a whole fantasy as fast as sunset.
I have dreamt of leaving for so long, I don't even know how to process this experience.
"Life is weird right, that bulky asshole said they had a low acceptance rate…" Yaaganar said in spite.
"He was saying survival rate not acceptance, dummy." I corrected with a tired sigh.
"That is an easy task, if we were able to survive Maelstrom and downtown Orion, it would be a walk in the park, given one has an Entity. That's why we need to get you one as possible." Yaagnar rambled in ignorance.
"I don't need that." I say as I stare at the passing buildings, we had already passed the busy part of the district.
"Then, how do you plan on doing it?" Yaagnar asked, pouting.
I looked surprised and embarrassed on his behalf, I could feel blood rush to my cheeks. He smirked at my response, drawing close.
"I have been reading, I could be my own entity."
His face goes blank. "That has never happened… I mean how do you plan on giving yourself the Divine status?"
I give him a knowing look. "There is no way no one has been desperate enough to try."
"Do you plan on going around asking favors with your family name? That has not worked well so far." Yaagnar pointed out with a look of concern.
I hate that look, I don't need to be pitied.
The bus comes to a halt as it parks in the parking lot of Orion Metro station and we alight.
I don't notice the absence of Yaagnar's incessant words as I take in the beauty that surrounds me.
This Station is literally the port that connects Orion to the rest pf the world and I have never had the opportunity to see in person. I have heard many people talk about before, how ahead of its time it was, a train station positioned close to a water body, making it double for a seaport and a massive helipad.
I can hear the 'You should see the Metro some time.'
Well, it was one of the frequent customers I had while working at the convenience store, she always made sure to use my counter and she was a heavy tipper, always ranting about how great and big life is outside Orion and how I should not spend it rotting in Orion.
She may have been my motivating factor and a big push more than I would like to admit.
I smile to myself as I recall her ginger bob dancing around as she spoke, always having stories to tell.
I envy that.
Anytime, I tried to mirror her energy, I realised I did not have much to say apart from orphanage drama, what topic I started reading that week and what shade of boxers was best for a date, courtesy of Randy, one of my roommates.
I hope I meet people like her not people full of themselves or that think that the world revolves around them.
The ride was very rowdy, everyone had a thing to say. I mean, meeting new people and and to make your best impression so far. Building a profitable network.
That sounds like a lot of work. All I want is to leave Orion, it has shown me its unpleasant side.
I have a passport, that was the main reason for applying to Necroforce. It was the fastest route to getting it;
I met a guy who spent years appealing for Maelstrom to facilitate his passport creation for his studies abroad. He seemed really interested in his plant studies, he was very gassed about it nut Orion does it does best.
The ride passes along a railway with huge valley of trees below it, no it was a forest. Very very thick and it did not help that the drop looked deadly.
The valley looked about a hundred meters deep which made the location of the academy quite suspicious.
Why would the exit be a railway suspended over a thick valley of forest that spanned hundred of meters squared?
The long awaited destination had arrived, there stood the tall, red gates that stood twenty meters high made me wonder what they were trying to keep out or what they were keeping in.
Coz, I did not understand why it would need to be that thick too. It was thicker my hands, the thought of the weight of the doors made a shiver run down my spine.
And the buildings, oh the buildings. It was like I walked in to a sci-fi movie set.
Tall building made of black transparent glass?
It looked like the building were made up of sheet-like transparent obsidian; sturdy, large and securing. I have never seen any material like it before, it also managed to look more delicate than glass as the corners look so sharp, their mere existence could cut through anything that came close.
Making me question the choice in a somewhat school environment.
We alighted and they showed us around and stopped at the Administrative Block. It was somehow more rowdier than the beginning.
