When they finally broke apart, Rami didn't pull back far, his eyes roaming slowly over every inch of Kai's face - his high cheekbones, his golden blonde hair, the pristine light that covered his skin - as though cataloguing him all over again.
"You're here." He murmured against his lips.
"Yeah...I am." Kai breathed back with a quiet sigh.
"Are you alright?" Rami asked, his voice still rough with sleep, fingers tightening slightly against the back of Kai's neck.
Kai rolled his eyes, "By the ever-loving angels, Rami. Yes." He laughed, disbelieving, and pressed his forehead briefly against his, "You're the one who wasn't. You were wounded for fuck's sake."
Rami did draw back then, his eyes leaving Kai's face for the first time as though he were straining to recollect something, "Oh...Kai, it was that Drefan guy again. The one from the race. He was corrupted, and then he - I think he attacked the house, and Ely was -"
