Chapter 92 - Chapter: Picnic Under Open Skies, Shadows Behind Smiles

Sunny Meadow — Fairy Tail Outing

The picnic was Ren's idea.

Which, by Fairy Tail standards, already meant something was about to go wrong.

A wide green meadow stretched near the river outside Magnolia, sunlight filtering through lazy clouds. Blankets were spread messily. Food was… everywhere. Half of it was already gone, mostly due to Natsu.

"WHY IS THE FIRE-GRILLED MEAT EMPTY?!" Natsu yelled.

"You ate it," Gray replied flatly, sipping a drink.

"I SHARED."

"You stole."

Ren sat cross-legged on a blanket, calm amid the noise, watching the chaos with faint amusement.

Erza sat beside him, armor replaced by casual clothes—still terrifyingly composed. Mira was across from them, pouring drinks with her gentle smile, while Juvia hovered just a bit closer to Ren than necessary.

Lucy leaned back on her hands, laughing. "This is… surprisingly normal for once."

"Normal is subjective," Ren replied.

Happy floated above the food. "Aye! Picnic level: CHAOTIC!"

Quiet Sparks — Romance in Motion

Mira handed Ren a drink. Their fingers brushed—brief, warm.

Juvia noticed.

Juvia pouted.

Erza noticed that.

Ren noticed everything.

He leaned back, resting on his hands. "You're all overthinking again."

Mira blinked. "Overthinking what?"

Ren smiled knowingly. "Exactly."

Juvia huffed. "Ren-sama is cruel."

"I prefer 'efficient.'"

Erza crossed her arms, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "You enjoy this too much."

Ren glanced at her—really looked. The scarlet hair catching sunlight, the steady presence she carried.

"Only because you're all here," he said simply.

That shut everyone up for a second.

Lucy's eyes widened. Cana smirked. Gray looked away. Natsu didn't notice because he was fighting a chicken leg.

Mira's smile softened.

Juvia's heart melted.

Erza… looked away, ears slightly red.

Riverbank — Laughter and Calm

Cana dragged Lucy toward the river. "Come on, Celestial Girl, let's drink like adults."

"I am an adult!"

"That's what makes it fun."

Gray and Natsu started arguing again—this time about who could swim faster.

They never finished the race.

They did destroy part of the riverbank.

Erza stood.

Both froze instantly.

"…Controlled picnic," she said calmly.

"Yes ma'am," they replied in unison.

Ren snorted. Mira covered her mouth, laughing softly.

Shadows of the Past — The Shift

It happened quietly.

Too quietly.

Ren's expression changed first.

Then Erza's.

Then Mira's smile faded.

Juvia felt it a second later—a pressure in the air, cold and wrong.

Ren stood. "Pack up."

Lucy blinked. "What? Why?"

Erza's voice was calm, but sharp. "We're not alone."

From the tree line, figures emerged—hooded, marked with old symbols burned into their cloaks.

Cults.

Not random ones.

Old. Organized.

Ren's eyes narrowed. "Tower-related markings."

Erza stepped forward instinctively, rage restrained behind discipline. "The Tower of Heaven."

Mira clenched her fists, demonic magic stirring faintly.

The cultists didn't attack.

They ran.

Ren vanished in a flash—reappearing behind the last one, blade tapping the man's neck.

"Location," Ren said quietly.

The cultist shook, terror breaking him. "T-The coast… abandoned ruins… the Tower is awakening again—"

Erza knocked him unconscious with one strike.

Silence fell.

---

Aftermath — Unspoken Weight

The picnic was over.

They returned to Magnolia quieter than before.

Lucy glanced between Ren and Erza. "You two… you've fought them before, haven't you?"

Ren answered first. "Yes."

Erza followed. "And we ended it."

Ren's voice was steady, but cold. "Seems the past doesn't like staying buried."

Juvia stepped closer to him. Mira placed a gentle hand on Erza's shoulder.

The shadows had found them again.

And somewhere, far away—

The Tower of Heaven waited.
