Chapter 103 - Chapter 102 — “A Day That Asks for Nothing”

Lazy sunlight · shared warmth · promises sealed quietly

Year X784 — Early Summer

Location: Ren's Lakeside House

Ages: Ren & Erza (19) | Mira & Juvia (17)

---

The house had grown quiet in a way only homes could.

Not the silence of absence—but the kind shaped by breathing, by warmth, by people who belonged there.

Ren sat on the long couch by the open window, sunlight spilling over his legs, a book resting forgotten in one hand.

His lap was occupied.

Erza lay half across him, armor long discarded, cheek resting against his thigh like it was the most natural place in the world. One arm looped loosely around his waist, the other tucked beneath her chin. Her breathing was slow, deep—unguarded.

Mira curled at his side, knees drawn up, head resting against his shoulder. One hand idly held the edge of his shirt, fingers warm, relaxed.

And Juvia—

Juvia lay lengthwise across him, head settled fully in his lap, blue hair fanned out like water stilled at last. Her fingers clutched his sleeve—not tightly, just enough to remind herself he was real.

Ren looked down at them.

> I'm not moving, he decided.

Cats in Human Form

Erza shifted first, nose wrinkling faintly as she adjusted closer.

> "Warm," she muttered.

Mira hummed in agreement, eyes still closed.

> "He makes excellent furniture."

Ren snorted quietly.

> "I'm right here."

Erza cracked one eye open.

> "Then don't leave."

> "Wasn't planning to."

Satisfied, she closed her eye again.

Juvia stirred, blinking up at him slowly.

> "Ren smells… calm today."

> "Is that a compliment?"

> "Juvia thinks so."

Mira laughed softly, fingers brushing his wrist.

> "We broke him," she said fondly. "He's domestic now."

> "I blame all of you," Ren replied.

None of them disagreed.

---

Spoiling Them (On Purpose)

Eventually—after much careful maneuvering—Ren freed himself just enough to stand.

The girls protested immediately.

> "Where are you going," Erza asked without opening her eyes.

> "Food," he said. "Stay."

They listened.

The kitchen filled with soft sounds—bowls, knives, quiet magic woven gently into warmth rather than force.

Ren cooked with intention.

For Erza, a strawberry cake layered with fresh cream—sweet, strong, honest.

For Mira, kuzumochi made slowly, dusted with kinako, delicate and balanced.

For Juvia, smooth homemade ice cream, chilled just enough, faintly vanilla with a hint of citrus.

When he returned, plates in hand, all three were sitting up.

Watching him.

---

Feeding Time

Erza took the first bite he offered her.

She froze.

Then swallowed.

> "…You're unfair," she said quietly.

> "I try."

Mira leaned forward next, accepting her piece with a smile that softened her entire face.

> "You didn't rush this," she noted.

> "I didn't want to."

Juvia hesitated only a second before leaning in, lips brushing the spoon.

Her eyes widened slightly.

> "Cold," she murmured, then smiled. "Perfect."

Ren watched them eat, something warm settling deep in his chest.

---

Quiet Promises

They returned to the couch naturally, like gravity pulled them there.

Erza turned first.

She reached up, fingers curling into Ren's shirt, and pulled him down just enough to meet her.

The kiss was brief.

Soft.

Certain.

A warrior's promise—claimed without doubt.

Ren kissed her back just as gently.

Mira followed, resting her hand against his chest before leaning in. Her lips met his in a quiet, lingering kiss—warm, affectionate, unhurried.

She smiled when they parted.

Juvia watched them, heart steady but full.

Ren cupped her cheek, thumb brushing just beneath her eye.

> "You okay?"

She nodded.

> "Juvia is… happy."

He leaned down and kissed her too—soft, careful, lips meeting hers for just a moment.

Juvia inhaled sharply, then smiled, glowing.

> "Ren stays?" she asked softly.

Ren looked at all three of them.

> "I stay," he said.

"I'll take care of you. I'll choose you—every day."

No magic seal.

No oath carved into stone.

Just truth spoken where it mattered.

---

Afternoon Stillness

Later, they drifted back into a tangle of warmth.

Erza claimed his arm as a pillow.

Mira leaned into his side.

Juvia curled close, rain magic calm and quiet within her.

Ren stared out at the lake, sunlight rippling across the water.

> This isn't loud, he thought.

It doesn't need to be.

The world could wait.

For today—

This was enough.
