Jealousy erupts · bonds defended · feelings noticed too late
Year X784 — Early Summer
Location: Fairy Tail Guild Hall & Lakeside House
Ages: Ren & Erza (19) | Mira, Juvia, Lucy (17)

Lucy — POV
Lucy learned something important that afternoon.
Peace was suspicious.
Very suspicious.
She realized this while sitting at a corner table in the Fairy Tail guild hall, sipping her drink and listening to the wrong kind of whispers.
> "Did you hear—"
"All four of them in one house—"
"He's got it way too good—"
"Who does he even like the most—"
Lucy tightened her grip on her mug.
Across the hall, Ren sat with Erza, Mira, and Juvia like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Erza leaned against him, arms crossed, calm but alert.
Mira laughed softly at something he said, fingers brushing his sleeve without thinking.
Juvia sat close—closer than necessary—eyes bright, rain magic peacefully dormant.
They fit.
That was the problem.
Lucy looked down at her drink.
> …Don't think about it, she told herself.
You're just adjusting. That's all.
She looked up again.
Ren smiled—lazy, fond, unguarded.
Her chest did something unpleasant.

The Jealous Idiots (A Short-Lived Species)
The first brave fool stood up near the bar.
> "Oi, Ren!" he called. "You ever gonna share how you pulled that off?"
Ren blinked.
> "Pulled what off?"
The idiot grinned wider.
> "Three girls—one house—must be nice—"
The air shifted.
Lucy felt it before she saw it.
Erza turned.
Slowly.
> "…Repeat that."
Mira's smile didn't fade—but it sharpened.
> "Careful," she said sweetly. "You're very close to saying something you can't take back."
Another guild member laughed nervously.
> "C'mon, it's just curiosity—"
That was as far as he got.
Erza moved.
One step. One punch.
BOOM.
The man flew clean across the hall and embedded himself into a wall with a decorative crack.
Silence.
Then Mira stepped forward, knuckles glowing faintly.
> "Anyone else?"
Two more idiots lunged.
They lasted less than a second.
One hit the ceiling.
The other hit the floor and reconsidered all his life choices.
Juvia clapped politely.
> "Juvia approves of this response."
Ren sighed, rubbing his temple.
> "I was enjoying today."

Fairy Tail Chaos (As Tradition Demands)
Natsu burst out laughing.
> "HAHA! AGAIN! DO IT AGAIN!"
Gray nodded approvingly.
> "Deserved."
Cana raised her barrel.
> "To idiots learning lessons!"
Makarov didn't stop it.
That said everything.
Lucy watched the scene unfold, heart pounding—not from fear.
From something else.
Erza stood protectively in front of Ren now, glare daring the world to try again.
Mira rested a hand on Ren's arm, grounding him effortlessly.
Juvia leaned in close, rain magic flaring faintly in warning.
They weren't competing.
They were united.
Lucy swallowed.
> …That's what real bonds look like, she realized.
And for reasons she absolutely did not want to examine—
It hurt.

Lucy — Quiet Realization
Later, after the chaos burned itself out and the idiots were carried away groaning, Lucy stepped outside for air.
The evening was warm.
She sat on the steps, hugging her knees.
> I shouldn't feel like this, she thought.
They're happy. Ren's happy.
She stared at the lake in the distance.
> So why does my chest feel… tight?
Footsteps approached.
Ren stopped beside her.
> "You okay?"
She looked up quickly.
> "Yeah! Totally! Just—guild noise."
He nodded, accepting it without pressure, and sat beside her.
Not too close.
Not too far.
That somehow made it worse.
> "They're… strong," Lucy said quietly, eyes still forward.
> "They are," Ren agreed.
A pause.
> "You belong here too," he added gently.
Lucy smiled.
It felt fragile.
> "I know."
She didn't say the rest.
Didn't say that watching him with them made something twist inside her.
Didn't say that a small, selfish part of her wished—
She cut the thought off immediately.
> No names, she told herself firmly.
No labels. Just… feelings passing through.
Ren stood.
> "Come on. They'll start another fight if I'm gone too long."
Lucy laughed softly.
> "Yeah… probably."
As she followed him back inside, she glanced once more at Erza, Mira, and Juvia waiting for him without question.
> Someday, Lucy thought,
I want something like that too.
She just didn't realize yet—
That she already wanted it with him.

Closing Line
Peace had been shattered.
Jealousy had been punched unconscious.
And in the space between laughter and bruises—
A quiet heart had begun asking questions it wasn't ready to answer.
