Chapter 107 - Chapter 105 — “When the Guild Goes Quiet”

Chaos collides · anger ignites · disappointment spoken aloud

Year X784 · Early Summer

Location: Fairy Tail Guild Hall — Afternoon

---

Laxus — POV

The second floor was usually quiet.

Laxus sat alone at the railing, an S-Class request spread open in his hands. Escort. Subjugation. Extermination. All of them blurred together after a while.

He wasn't really reading.

Below him, Fairy Tail breathed—laughed, shouted, lived.

Too easily, a bitter part of him thought.

The door slammed open.

---

Chaos Returns

> "WE'RE BACK!"

Natsu's voice detonated through the hall like a fireball.

Gray followed half a second later, coat torn, smirking.

> "Mission complete," Gray said.

"Mostly."

> "Mostly?" Lucy echoed.

Natsu grinned proudly.

> "The bad guys ran."

"The town's safe."

"The church exploded."

Silence.

> "…The church?" Erza's voice cut in.

> "It was already kinda falling apart!" Natsu protested.

"And it attacked me first!"

> "It was a holy building, idiot!" Gray snapped.

"You punched the bell tower!"

> "YOU THREW ICE SPEARS THROUGH THE WALL!"

They were already fighting.

Tables overturned. Chairs shattered. Magic flared.

> "OI—STOP DESTROYING THE GUILD—" Cana yelled, ducking a flying mug.

Happy hovered overhead.

> "Aye! That one's new destruction!"

Laughter broke out.

---

Laxus — The Snap

From above—

Crack.

Lightning burst outward, slamming into the floor between Natsu and Gray, splitting stone like glass.

The guild froze.

Laxus stood at the railing, eyes glowing, voice cold.

> "Enough."

Natsu blinked.

> "Eh?"

> "You think this is funny?" Laxus continued, tone rising.

"Another building destroyed."

"Another apology the old man will have to write."

The air tightened.

> "You don't even think," Laxus snarled.

"You just fight, laugh, and move on."

He jumped down, landing hard.

> "Do you know how many times he's had to bow his head for this?"

Natsu bristled.

> "We're Fairy Tail! That's how we—"

> "NO," Laxus roared.

"That's how you justify it."

Magic surged.

The guild tensed.

---

Ren — Intervening

> "Stop."

Ren stepped forward.

Not shouting.

Not threatening.

Calm—and worse for it.

> "Laxus," Ren said evenly.

"Enough."

Laxus turned, jaw tight.

> "You see it too," he snapped.

"Don't pretend you don't."

Ren didn't deny it.

He turned instead—slowly—toward the guild.

The laughter had died.

Even Natsu was quiet now.

Ren's voice carried.

> "I'm disappointed."

That word hit harder than lightning.

---

Ren — Confrontation

> "All of you," Ren said.

Eyes followed him.

Every member.

Even Makarov, standing near the bar, didn't interrupt.

> "You think strength is the damage you survive," Ren continued.

"Or the buildings you destroy."

"Or how loud you can be while doing it."

He gestured to the broken tables. The cracked walls.

> "Every mess you make," he said quietly,

"someone else cleans."

Silence.

> "Do you know how many times the Council nearly sanctioned Fairy Tail?"

"How many times Etherion was considered before this?"

Gasps rippled.

Lucy's hands tightened in her skirt.

> "Erza and I almost died because of that," Ren continued.

"Not because we were weak."

"But because the world expects Fairy Tail to be reckless."

Natsu opened his mouth—

Ren looked at him.

> "Don't."

Natsu froze.

> "You're strong," Ren said.

"All of you are."

"But strength without restraint isn't freedom."

He glanced at Makarov.

> "It's a burden placed on one man's shoulders."

Makarov's eyes softened—but he said nothing.

Split POV — Guild Reactions

Lucy:

Her chest ached.

This wasn't scolding.

This was grief—spoken aloud.

Gray:

He looked away, jaw clenched.

We really did blow up a church…

Cana:

For once, she didn't reach for another drink.

Natsu:

Confusion twisted into something uncomfortable.

Did… we mess up?

Erza:

She stood straight, eyes sharp—not at Ren.

At the guild.

Pride didn't shield them here.

---

> "Fairy Tail doesn't need to be quieter," Ren said.

"It needs to be better."

He met every gaze.

> "You don't fight for yourselves."

"You fight for each other."

A pause.

> "That includes the man who protects you when you're not looking."

Ren stepped back.

> "Think about that."

---

Makarov finally raised his staff.

No anger.

No reprimand.

> "He's right," the guild master said quietly.

The words settled like stone.

> "I never asked you to change who you are," Makarov continued.

"But I hoped… you'd grow."

The hall stayed silent.

Not in fear.

In understanding.

---

Fairy Tail had always been loud.

But that day—

For the first time—

It listened.
