Chapter 120 - Time to Die Pt. 3

Across the island, his spear felt heavy in his hand. Silas watched the monster decimate his men in mere moments while he could do nothing about it. Had everything worked like it was supposed to, this would have been their chance to act. However, it was bound to happen.

Their chances of success had always been slim to none. Even if they could survive against the Pirate King, victory would be nearly impossible without the Montrelan. Nevertheless, they'd fight because they didn't need to win this fight to find success.

Even so, the bodies of his men crumbling to the ground made his anger flare. His golem formed into existence beside him as they prepared to stall the Pirate King as long as possible.

Everything about the plan was insanity. He knew that going with it was foolishness and would result in all of their deaths. He was doing it anyway. Even if they all died here, it would be worth it if Zara were rescued or if the island was saved. Knowing all this, he hadn't hesitated to volunteer for this position. His soldiers all joined him as well.

After a moment, the sound of grinding metal echoed through the chamber. The Pirate King paused where he was standing in the blood of Silas's soldiers. He glanced around slowly as if trying to figure out what the strange noise was.

"Now, what plan do you have?" He asked, sounding genuinely intrigued.

In all reality, the grinding metal did absolutely nothing. It had been designed by Vizim to sound ominous and make any combatants scared. However, it didn't do anything except make noise. Slowly, over time, the volume would increase and then abruptly cut off. All of this was to make any enemies think they were about to be attacked by some strange weapon.

Instead of responding, Silas took a step forward and threw his spear. All of his ability went into increasing and decreasing his weight so efficiently that his spear launched like a battering ram.

Just as the Pirate King turned away, the weapon exploded across the space between them in mere moments. Even with the Pirate King distracted, the weapon didn't manage to properly land a hit. The man teleported to the side, mere moments before the weapon would have pierced through his chest. Instead, his spear merely grazed the man's arm before slamming into the stone wall with enough force to make rocks tumble from the ceiling.

The Pirate King froze for a moment and slowly glanced down at the tear in his black coat. A thin trail of blood dripped from the wound. It had hardly dug deeper than the skin.

When he looked up at them, there was a coldness and anger in his eyes that Silas had only seen when the man was forced to retreat. They had once again shown him that he wasn't all-powerful and could be injured. He had been coming into this fight as cocky as ever and once again was injured. It wasn't any major injury, but any injury at all signified weakness.

The Pirate King snarled and roared forward. Silas retreated a step as he began summoning his spear back. It would take a moment after launching it, and he didn't have a moment.

His golem dove forward, guarding Silas for the moments he needed. The Pirate King slammed into the creature with enough force to send the wall of stone staggering. Before it could so much as land a blow, the golem was tossed aside like a heap of rubble. Silas had expected all of this, of course.

While they had learned a little bit about how to fight against the Pirate King, he had learned about them as well. His golem was also no real fast fighter, and the Pirate King was. His stony exterior was strong against anyone weaker than him, but for someone like the Pirate King, it wasn't powerful.

With his spear reappearing in his hand, Silas lunged at the pirate. His weapon fell towards the man's chest as he recovered from shattering the stone golem. The Pirate King barely bothered to parry the strike before simply moving past him. Silas cursed and dove after the pirate, but a fist slammed into his head, sending him reeling.

Guns blasted from his men to no avail. The Pirate King dodged past them like they were merely darts. Silas watched as his enemy reached the remains of his soldiers just as he did the other group. A small smile teased the corners of his lips. The Pirate King hadn't arrived fast enough.

He watched the item slam into the floor and tightly closed his eyes. Already knowing what was to come, the light that rippled out didn't blind him. Instead, the angry yell of the momentarily blinded Pirate King filled the chamber.

With his eyes still closed, Silas began dashing across the chamber as he drew a long metal item from his waist. The device was strange. Perhaps the strangest thing he had seen in a while. Redwynn had attempted to explain how the thing actually functioned, but Silas only understood its effectiveness.

It was a device that would drain mist directly from a person's heart. The device somehow linked with a person's heart, and it all continued from there. Silas honestly didn't care how it worked; he just hoped that it did.

Knowing that the light would only last for another moment, Silas began to open his eyes as he readied the device. The Pirate King was still staggering as the light began to fade. Without hesitating, Silas thrust the item forward, driving it into the pirate's shoulder.

The man cursed and whirled on him, glowing blade in hand. Silas barely managed to block and was sent skidding backward. A shot took the man in the back, and he stumbled. At the same moment, Silas's golem slammed into the pirate's side, sending him sprawling.

Without hesitation, Silas dove forward. Everything was converging. They had a chance. They could actually win the fight. He had no interest in jinxing their chances by admitting it out loud, but this was their best opportunity. Their only chance to kill the man, really.

It was his time to die.
