Chapter 158 - Chapter 158: The First Daughters

The ducal manor was unusually quiet that evening.

Rosalynn had been restless all day, her hands frequently resting on her heavily rounded belly. At nearly nine months, her pregnancy was very advanced. Her belly was large and full, skin stretched taut and glowing with that special radiance only a woman carrying her beloved's child possessed. Her breasts were enormously swollen and constantly leaking, dark nipples glistening with milk that soaked through the front of her gown in warm, glistening patches.

It began after dinner.

A sharp contraction rippled through her. Rosalynn gasped, one hand gripping the edge of the table as another followed quickly, stronger than the last.

"My son…" she whispered, voice tight but steady, a small smile breaking through the discomfort. "It's time."

The manor sprang into controlled, loving motion.

Liliana, also heavily pregnant and only a few days behind her sister, immediately took charge of preparations with Elara's help. Violet ran to fetch the midwife and additional healers. Damien was at Rosalynn's side in an instant, lifting her gently into his strong arms and carrying her bridal-style toward the master bedroom, which had been prepared weeks earlier for this sacred moment.

The large birthing bed was ready, layered with soft sheets, extra pillows for support, warm water basins, clean linens, and soothing herbs burning in small braziers that filled the room with a calming, floral scent. The entire family gathered around her as the labor intensified.

Rosalynn gripped Damien's hand tightly, her emerald eyes locked on his through every powerful contraction. Sweat glistened on her forehead and between her leaking breasts.

"You're doing so well, my beautiful Mother," Damien murmured, kissing her forehead, her cheeks, her lips between contractions. "I'm right here. We're all here. You're bringing our daughter into the world. I'm so proud of you."

Liliana knelt on her other side, holding her sister's hand, her own rounded belly pressed close. "Breathe with me, sister. You're so strong. Our daughters are coming. I can feel mine kicking in excitement."

Violet stayed close on the other side, gently wiping sweat from Rosalynn's brow with a cool cloth, her usual fierce demeanor softened by deep emotion. "You've carried her so beautifully. Now let us help you bring her into the world."

Elara used her healing gift with delicate precision, sending soft waves of golden light into Rosalynn's body to ease the worst of the pain and support her strength, all while whispering encouragement.

Hours passed in a blur of pain, love, and fierce determination.

Rosalynn pushed with raw power, her cries mixing with words of devotion and love.

"For you… my son… my duke… our daughter… I'm doing this for all of us…"

With one final, powerful push and a raw, triumphant cry that echoed through the room, their first child entered the world.

A healthy baby girl.

The midwife lifted the newborn, who let out a strong, clear cry that filled the chamber. Rosalynn sobbed with overwhelming joy as the baby was placed on her chest, skin to skin. Damien's hand trembled slightly as he touched his daughter for the first time — tiny, perfect, with a tuft of silver hair like her mother's and eyes that already seemed to search for him with quiet curiosity.

"Our daughter," Rosalynn whispered through tears, cradling the baby against her leaking breast. The newborn instinctively latched on, beginning to nurse. Warm milk flowed as Rosalynn stroked the tiny head with reverent wonder, fresh tears slipping down her cheeks. "Look at her… she's perfect. Our little princess."

Liliana wept openly beside her, one hand on her own belly. "She's beautiful… perfect… She has your strength already."

Damien leaned down and kissed Rosalynn's forehead, then the baby's tiny head, his voice thick with emotion. "You did it, my love. You brought her safely into our world. I love you both more than I can say."

Violet and Elara hovered close, their eyes shining with happy tears. Violet gently wiped Rosalynn's face while Elara checked on mother and child with her healing touch, ensuring everything was well.

The newborn nursed greedily, small hands kneading Rosalynn's breast as milk flowed. Rosalynn looked up at Damien with exhausted but radiant love.

"She's ours," she whispered. "The first of many. The beginning of our legacy."

The family stayed gathered around the bed for hours, basking in the quiet miracle. Damien held both Rosalynn and their daughter protectively, while Liliana, Violet, and Elara took turns gently touching the newborn's tiny hands and soft hair.

The first heir of the Centerlands had arrived.

But labor was not finished.

Only two hours after Rosalynn delivered their first daughter, Liliana's own contractions began in earnest. The family barely had time to catch their breath and celebrate the arrival of their firstborn before the next wave of joy and intensity swept over them.

Liliana gripped Rosalynn's hand tightly, her face flushed and determined as another powerful contraction rippled through her. A soft, pained moan escaped her lips, but her silver eyes remained locked on Damien with absolute trust and love.

"It's happening, nephew," she whispered, voice tight with effort. "Our second daughter… she's coming for you."

Damien stayed right beside her, one arm supporting her back while the other held their newborn daughter against his chest. "I'm here, my beautiful aunt. Breathe through it. You're so strong. Just like Rosalynn. Push for me."

Rosalynn, still recovering but radiant with exhaustion and joy, leaned close and kissed Liliana's temple. "We're with you, sister. Push when you feel it. Our daughters want to meet each other… and their father."

Violet and Elara moved with quiet efficiency. Violet wiped sweat from Liliana's brow and offered her water, while Elara used her healing gift to ease the worst of the pain, sending gentle waves of golden light into Liliana's body.

The labor was intense but shorter than Rosalynn's. Liliana pushed with fierce determination, her cries mixing with words of deep, taboo devotion.

"For you… my nephew… my beloved… our family… I'm giving you another daughter…"

With one final, exhausted cry that echoed through the room, Liliana delivered their second daughter, another healthy, beautiful baby girl with soft silver hair and a strong, clear voice that filled the chamber the moment she took her first breath.

The midwife lifted the newborn carefully and placed her on Liliana's chest. The room filled with joyful tears as both newborns were nestled between their mothers. Rosalynn and Liliana lay side by side on the wide bed, cradling their daughters' skin-to-skin. The babies instinctively searched for and latched onto their mothers' leaking breasts, beginning to nurse with soft, eager sounds.

Damien knelt between them, one hand gently resting on each tiny back, his eyes shining with profound emotion.

"My daughters," he whispered, voice thick with wonder and love. "Welcome to our family. Welcome to our empire. I will protect you with everything I am."

Rosalynn looked down at her nursing daughter with tears streaming down her cheeks, gently stroking the baby's silver hair. "She's perfect… so strong already. Feel how eagerly she drinks from me, my son."

Liliana smiled through happy, exhausted tears, cradling her own newborn close as milk flowed freely. "They're both so beautiful. Our little miracles. I can't believe I've given my nephew two daughters tonight."

The first nursing scenes were sacred and intimate. Both mothers glowed with exhaustion and pure joy as their daughters suckled, drawing the rich colostrum and warm milk their bodies had prepared with such devotion. Milk sometimes leaked from the corners of the babies' tiny mouths, dripping down onto their mothers' already wet breasts in glistening trails.

Violet and Elara hovered close, touching the newborns with gentle reverence. Violet's eyes were wet with happy tears, her own longing for pregnancy burning brighter than ever as she watched the babies nurse. Elara smiled softly, her healing aura gently soothing the exhausted mothers while she brushed a strand of hair from Liliana's face.

Damien leaned down, kissing each tiny head, then each mother's lips with deep tenderness.

"You have given me the greatest gifts," he said softly, voice rough with emotion. "Thank you, my loves. Rosalynn. Liliana, my beloved aunt. You have made me a father twice over tonight. I will spend my life making sure you never regret choosing me."

Rosalynn looked at him with tired but radiant eyes. "Our daughters… the first of many," she whispered. "The beginning of our legacy."

Liliana smiled weakly, stroking her newborn's cheek as the baby continued to nurse. "The empire begins with them. With us. With this love between aunt and nephew."

Violet leaned in, voice full of awe and hunger. "I want this next… so badly."

Elara rested her head on Damien's shoulder, eyes shining. "We all do."

Damien held his growing family close, feeling the tiny heartbeats against his chest and the warm weight of his daughters nursing. The room was filled with soft suckling sounds, quiet murmurs of love, and the sweet scent of milk and new life.

The Centerlands were stable.

The truce held, for now.

But here, in this room, the true empire had just taken its first real breath.

Two healthy daughters.

Two proud mothers.

And a circle that had never been stronger.
