Lilian had never been inside the High Council Chamber at the Citadel before. She had seen the dungeons, the archives, and many of the other rooms, but this was different. It was massive with an obsidian table with the carved seating stood in the center.
But as she walked in, she saw the burn marks on the floor from the Eye of Malphas were still there, even though they had been scrubbed and polished.
Valerius had told her where to sit right in the center of the long side. It was the position that made every Elder have to turn their head to see her, the position of the thing the meeting was about.
She sat down with her hands folded on the table. Dante sat to her right, Adrian was on her left, and Lucien sat one seat further next to Adrian, relaxed in the way that meant he was paying attention to everything.
Four of the Elders filed into the chamber, moving with the unhurried attitude of beings that had lived through centuries. They sat without speaking.
