The setup was simple as well. Give the opponent three Ojama Token to satisfy the condition of "three Monster on the field," then use Ground Collapse or the effect of an Ojama Fusion Monster to seal the other two zones. As long as Cyber Blader stayed on the field, it created an almost invincible ultimate lock.
And the people who invented this back then were far more vicious than Yugen. After those old Underworld seniors discovered the combination, they exploited a loophole in the tournament rules and built an ultimate stall Deck called TOD, or Time Over Death. Once the Lockdown Array was established, the opponent could do nothing at all and could only draw one card per turn and stare helplessly.
At that point, someone might ask how the user of the deck actually won. The answer was simple. They stalled harder than the opponent.
In early Yu-Gi-Oh!, there was no surrender rule, and best-of-three matches had a forty-minute time limit. If the total match time went over forty minutes, then when time was called, the player with higher Life Points won the entire match, not just a single Duel. TOD abused exactly that loophole.
Once the lock was complete, the player would give up attacking entirely and simply drag out the game by gaining Life Points and waiting for time to run out. When time was called, they would win through the rules themselves. It was so disgusting that even Victory Dragon would have had to admit defeat, and anyone bold enough to use a deck that forced the opponent to sit in prison for forty minutes had clearly been prepared to face Death by Dismemberment afterward.
"Damn it..." Kohara gritted out. Daihara looked hopeless. "If the effects of Spell and Trap Cards and Monster are all negated forever, then doesn't that mean we're..."
"Wait, don't panic," Kohara said through clenched teeth. "The effect of Cyber Blader only works when there are exactly three Monster on the opponent's field. In other words, if we Summon any monster next turn and raise the count to four, the lock will disappear at once."
"That's right!" Daihara said, suddenly understanding. He could not help admiring Kohara for spotting the opening so quickly in a situation like this.
Yugen smiled. "Then I use the effect of the Trap Card 'Ojama Trio' in the Graveyard. I banish this card from my Graveyard, then Special Summon two 'Ojama' Monster from the Deck. I Special Summon the 'Ojama Yellow' and 'Ojama Green' that I just shuffled back." (ANIME EFFECT)
Ojama Yellow, DEF 1000. Ojama Green, DEF 1000.
"Next, I I activate a Spell Card! 'Polymerization' and fuse 'Ojama Yellow' and 'Ojama Green' on the field. Fusion Summon..."
A silver suit of armor appeared within the fusion vortex, a dark green cloak fluttering behind it. A comic-looking knight with snail-like eyes and a shield spun down onto the field.
"Fusion Summon, Ojama Knight!" Ojama Knight, DEF 2500.
"Ojama Knight's effect!" Yugen declared. "As long as this card remains on the field, select up to two of the opponent's Monster Zones. Those zones cannot be used. Therefore, I seal your two remaining Monster Zones!"
Daihara fell silent. Kohara said nothing either.
What the hell did you just say? Ojama Knight waved one hand, and two images leaped out at once. The images of Ojama Yellow and the green one landed directly on the opponent's two remaining zones and sealed them shut.
The two of them froze in place. They now had exactly three Monster on their field, while their other two zones were sealed, and they could not use any card effects.
"Kohara..." Daihara said. He stopped there, but the meaning was obvious. He wanted to ask whether they should just let themselves be carried away now.
"Damn it, it's not over yet." Kohara gritted his teeth and looked at the Prime Material Dragon on their field. They still had Prime Material Dragon, so there was still a chance.
Even though Megamorph had been negated and Prime Material Dragon's ATK had fallen back to 2400, that was still enough to Break Strike the core of the stall lock, Cyber Blader. As long as they could break that lock, they still had hope.
"Submarineroid changes back to Attack Position," Yugen said. "Direct attack." (ANIME EFFECT)
Another torpedo slammed into Daihara's face, and the holographic explosion left him covered in dust. Daihara, LP 2700 to LP 1900.
"Then by its own effect, Submarineroid changes back to Defense Position." (ANIME EFFECT) Yugen drew out another card. "I set one card and end my turn."
"Draw!" Kohara shouted. Daihara drew, then immediately followed the order. "Use 'Prime Material Dragon' to attack 'Cyber Blader'!"
"That won't do." Yugen snapped his fingers. "I activate my set card, the Continuous Trap 'Gravity Bind.' All monsters of Level 4 or higher on both sides cannot attack."
Kohara nearly coughed up blood. He was numb now, completely numb.
The moment their attack was sealed, it was basically a death sentence. This seal from Gravity Bind was almost impossible to answer. Under Cyber Blader's suppression, Mystical Space Typhoon, Heavy Storm, and even Heavy Storm would all be negated, so they had no way to remove the attack lock.
And if they could not destroy Cyber Blader, then they could not activate any card effects. Even if they drew another High-Level Monster and tributed Prime Material Dragon to Summon a new monster, it would mean nothing. The number of Monster would still be three, so Cyber Blader's lock would remain active.
And Ojama Token could not be used as tribute for a high-level Summon, so they could not reduce the count by tributing two Monster on the field either. All of the opponent's Monster were in Defense Position, so they could not even crash a token into them to self-destruct. Some people were still alive, but in truth they were already dead.
"My Turn! Draw." Yugen revealed the card in his hand. "I activate a Spell Card! 'Monster Reborn.' Revive 'Bowganian' from the Graveyard in Defense Position."
Bowganian, DEF 1000.
Everyone fell silent. This card dealt 600 damage to the opponent during each of its controller's Standby Phase.
It was obvious that it would not be long before Daihara and Kohara were slowly burned to death by Bowganian. Death by Dismemberment.
But in the end, they did not wait that long. Seeing that Kohara was already on the verge of losing control, Daihara quickly surrendered as fast as possible while there was still time. Otherwise, he feared his teammate would truly go insane.
No one had really doubted the outcome of this Duel from the beginning. No matter how wildly this so-called spider freak who hunted Rare Card had been hyped, there was no way he could defeat a first-year monster like that. What truly opened everyone's eyes was the special lock created by Cyber Blader.
Even Daichi Misawa was speechless for a moment. By now, he felt he understood Yugen fairly well and had built up some resistance to his strange personal tricks. Yet every single time, Yugen still managed to hit him with some bizarre move out of nowhere.
There was even less need to mention Asuka Tenjoin. She was probably the most shocked person in the entire audience. Even after the Duel ended, her mind was still full of questions.
Huh? Was Cyber Blader supposed to be used like that?
