The moon hung heavy and silver over the jagged mountain peak, its light the only witness to the scene below. A young, unknown boy stood amidst the frost dusted rocks, his grip white knuckled around a massive, crude bat. He was trembling, his breath hitching in the thin, freezing air.
"Last hit!"
He gasped, his voice cracking with a mix of exhaustion and desperate resolve.
"This is my kill!"
With a primal scream, he lunged. His bat swung in a wide, devastating arc, slamming into the side of a massive creature that looked like a terrifying hybrid of bat and dragon. The impact was sickeningly absolute; the creature's head was sent reeling sideways with such force that it shattered a solid rock formation upon contact, sending jagged shrapnel flying into the night. The beast slumped, lifeless and still.
The boy stood over the carcass, his chest heaving, his eyes wide and unblinking.
