The ultrasound machine hummed softly moments later. Doctor Ade focused carefully on the screen. Then her expression relaxed a little. "The babies are fine."
Amara opened her eyes immediately. "Both?" she whispered weakly. Doctor Ade nodded. "Yes. Both babies are okay." The relief that hit Amara was so strong that tears instantly gathered in her eyes.
For the first time since the pain started, she could breathe properly again. Doctor Ade continued the examination carefully while nurses monitored everything around them.
"Doctor… " Amara asked quietly after a moment, fear still lingering in her voice. "Are you sure everything is alright?" Doctor Ade hesitated briefly. "Well…" she said honestly, "for now, yes."
That answer didn't fully comfort Amara. "There are a few concerns," Doctor Ade admitted gently. "But nothing we can't manage if you rest and avoid stress." She gave her a pointed look at the last word.
