Chapter 117 - Chapter 117: Adelaide's Little Scheme

Adelaide stood in place, watching Hermione's retreating figure, and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

In recent days, Hermione had become completely engrossed in the book "Hogwarts: A History" that Adelaide had given her, as well as the textbooks Adelaide used in her first year, almost to the point of forgetting to eat and sleep.

According to Adelaide's observations, Hermione spent an average of 15 hours a day reading these books!

Seeing Hermione so obsessed with reading, Adelaide couldn't help but feel a little worried, fearing that if this continued, the clever little girl's eyesight would deteriorate due to excessive strain.

So Adelaide came up with a clever idea, encouraging Hermione to go to the attic to look through the telescope, thereby allowing her to temporarily put down her books and relax her eyes appropriately.

Of course, this was just the first step in her carefully planned scheme.

Anyone who has read HP knows that Harry has extremely deep feelings for his parents, who died young.

He is deeply proud to be their child, and having lost the love and care of his parents from a young age, he has always been collecting items or information related to them.

Adelaide's impassioned speech just now was filled with unreserved praise for Harry's parents, and anger and sympathy for Harry not knowing about Hogwarts immediately.

In the subsequent interactions between Hermione and Harry after their enrollment at Hogwarts, Hermione would undoubtedly relay what she had said earlier to Harry—the effect of Hermione personally recounting these words to Harry would definitely be far more intense than Adelaide expressing them directly in person, and it would be easier to resonate with Harry's innermost feelings, successfully inspiring more goodwill towards Adelaide.

With such a clever strategy as a prelude, it would be extremely easy for Adelaide to increase Harry's goodwill towards her.

If Harry truly came to Adelaide on his own to inquire about his parents' past experiences because of these remarks, then she could seize this good opportunity to further close the distance with the savior.

In this way, Adelaide would also have accomplished the important mission Dumbledore entrusted to her, establishing a good relationship with the savior.

Adelaide received Dumbledore's reply during dinner, stating that he would mail another acceptance letter to Harry tomorrow, and asked her to continue observing the movements at Number Four, Privet Drive.

The next morning, Adelaide, as usual, lightly climbed up to the somewhat old attic.

When she reached the attic window, a minor commotion was unfolding at Number Four, Privet Drive.

Last night, she witnessed Harry Potter, who originally lived under the stairs, move to the smallest room on the second floor; the chubby boy of The Dursley Family, Dudley, seemed very displeased about this; early this morning, Dudley, with a disgruntled expression, was throwing a tantrum at his parents, hitting them with his cane; Mr. and Mrs. Dursley also indulged their son's mischief, showing no signs of blame.

Today, Dudley went to the door to get the mail. As he walked back two steps, Mr. Dursley, as if mad, suddenly rushed over to snatch the letter from Dudley's hand.

At this moment, Harry, who had been silently following behind Mr. Dursley, for the first time showed his Gryffindor side—he unhesitatingly wrapped his arms around Mr. Dursley's thick neck from behind, trying to snatch the letter back.

Facing this situation, Dudley certainly wouldn't stand idly by; he waved his cane, continuously striking Harry and his father.

For a moment, dust flew in the first-floor hallway of Number Four, Privet Drive, and the entire scene became chaotic.

Despite Harry and Dudley's best efforts, the strong and sturdy adult, Mr. Dursley, ultimately won this "battle."

He glared fiercely at the two children, then forcefully pushed Dudley away and loudly ordered him to leave; then he turned to Harry and roared, "And you, get back to your room on the second floor immediately and don't come out to cause trouble again!"

Although Harry was unwilling, he could only turn and leave helplessly.

After watching the children leave, Mr. Dursley walked back to the living room alone. He sat on the sofa, panting heavily, his face terribly gloomy.

Then he pulled out a lighter from his pocket and set fire to the acceptance letter he had just snatched.

Adelaide came down from the attic and went into the study to write to Dumbledore. The Dursley's prejudice against magic could not be reversed by just two acceptance letters; stronger measures were needed.

On the third day, Harry became clever, planning to sneak out early in the morning to pick up the mail, but Mr. Dursley was one step ahead, sleeping directly by the door wrapped in a sleeping bag.

Harry stepped on Mr. Dursley's big face, and Number Four, Privet Drive, was once again in chaos. By the time Harry finished making tea in the kitchen, the three acceptance letters mailed that day had already been torn to shreds by Mr. Dursley.

Mr. Dursley, enraged by the triple quantity of acceptance letters, didn't go to work that day, instead staying home to nail shut the mailbox.

Adelaide truthfully reported this information to Dumbledore, who replied, telling her to find a way to get the letters directly into the house.

At five o'clock on the fourth morning, the sky was still pitch black, and all was silent.

Adelaide woke up early and cast a Disillusionment Charm on herself, instantly blending her figure with her surroundings.

Then she went to the Dursley's doorstep, waiting for the Owls to deliver the mail.

Soon, a flapping of wings approached from afar, and twelve Owls flew in a well-trained manner towards them, dropping the letters in their talons into the yard of Number Four, Privet Drive.

Seeing this, Adelaide raised her wand and commanded the acceptance letters on the lawn to silently slip into the house one by one through the crack in the front door.

Mr. Dursley woke up early in the morning to find so many letters inexplicably in his house and immediately flew into a rage.

He didn't even bother to go to work, furiously burning all the letters clean and finding several long iron nails to firmly nail shut both the front and back doors.

Dumbledore clearly wouldn't give up just like that; on the fifth day, he sent twenty-four letters directly!

Adelaide circled the house but couldn't find a single crack to slip a letter through, so she simply hid all the acceptance letters under two dozen eggs at the doorstep.

When the milkman came to deliver milk, he conveniently handed the eggs, along with the letters, through the living room window—unfortunately, these letters were all shredded in the end, and Harry didn't see them.

The sixth day was a Sunday; neither the postman nor the milkman appeared.

Adelaide stood outside the Dursley's house, scratching her head, and waved her wand, incanting the Levitation Charm.

Instantly, forty-eight acceptance letters slowly ascended, like light snowflakes dancing in the air; then, under Adelaide's precise control, these letters fell down the kitchen chimney, landing in front of The Dursley Family who were eating breakfast.

Adelaide stood outside the window, watching Mr. Dursley grab Harry by the waist as he jumped up to catch the letters and throw him out of the kitchen. This time, Mr. and Mrs. Dursley truly broke down; they decided to flee Number Four, Privet Drive.

Adelaide was also prepared for this; she hurriedly ran back to the entrance of Number Seven, Zijing Road, and dispelled her Disillusionment Charm. A light blue Ford Anglia 105E Deluxe sedan had been waiting there for a long time. Hermione, seeing her, immediately opened the car door and sat with her in the back seat of the sedan.
