Cherreads

Chapter 16 - Isekai

A few hours ago...

Adrian was mid-air, panicking as he and Rael were about to fall onto the street behind their school from the third floor.

"Wait..." His face paled in fear as he saw the concrete road rapidly approaching.

"We really didn't think this through, did we?" Rael smiled awkwardly, scratching his cheek.

"You mother-" Adrian's face contorted in anger.

He suddenly got cut off mid-word as a bright flash of light suddenly engulfed his view. He felt an intense pulling force yank him upwards before he suddenly felt his body crash into the ground.

Except it wasn't concrete but...grass? and flowers?

"Shit. Did I die and end up in heaven?"

'I can't die yet...I haven't finished reading DDS yet!"

He clutched at his chest to try and calm his wildly beating heart. But then he raised his brows in confusion.

'No, that can't be right. If I died, my heart wouldn't still be beating...would it?"

Where are we?"

"What was that voice?"

"I think I saw runes? Did we get kidnapped by a wizard?!"

"Shut up Branden."

His eyes widened as he noticed where the voices came from.

A group of teenagers suddenly appeared on a pure white marble circle platform in the middle of a magnificent garden. They were all confused until someone pointed towards their surroundings, causing them all to stare in shock. Two twin streams of crystal clear water flowed around the garden, lining a path towards a grand arc of white marble. All around them, beautiful flowers of all kinds and colours bloomed in a perfect beautiful painting of colours. A sweet fragrance wafted through the air, leaving them awestruck at the fact a single place could be so utterly, breathtakingly beautiful.

Beyond the garden, was a boundless sea of bright clouds of all colours, golden light spilling out from somewhere beneath. Far in the distance, multiple similar garden islands hovered, defying the laws of physics and bobbing up and down slightly. Some had similar streams of water falling endlessly from the islands, yet even the streams twisted in glittering lines across the sky, causing rainbow effects in every direction.

"It's...so pretty." A girl said, her eyes moistening in awe.

Then a soft, gentle voice echoed across the realm, causing them to look up before gasping in even greater awe.

"Welcome chosen heroes. I trust you have your questions but please remain calm. My name is Maraele, an angel of Heaven whose job is to guide great souls such as yours summoned for a great purpose."

Behind them stood a woman dressed in a flowing gown of white and gold which drifted with the slightest breeze. A radiant halo of golden light floated a few centimetres above her head, levitating in place without any form of support. Two radiant wings of light unfurled behind her, adding to her holy presence.

Her smile seemed to make the bright world even brighter as she looked down tenderly at the students before her. Or at least it seemed like she did, but her eyes were covered with a white blindfold.

As the students looked at the beautiful angel hovering before them, they were frozen in shock for a moment.

That was... until someone said something monumentally stupid.

"Smash."

The entire class turned to the fat boy who spoke with various degrees of shock, annoyance or outright disgust. Even Adrian was taken aback.

His eyes widened in alarm.

"Ah shit, did I say that out loud."

"Ah shit, did I just curse in front of an angel."

"Pervert." The earlier girl muttered, her face wrinkling in disgust as she shook her head.

"Ahem. As I was saying..."

"Oi! Oi! Who the fuck do you think you are?" A loud voice echoed from within the group, interrupting her.

A tall, blonde boy suddenly swaggered out with his hands in his pockets, facing her with a condescending look on his face. He had a tattoo of a snake tattooed to the right side of his face and had his hair dyed green, slicked back.

Instead of the school's uniform, he had a red shirt underneath the jacket emblazoned with a gang name.

"Cuz I don't know why some blind bitch suddenly thinks she can boss me around! Do you know who my father is?" He spat defiantly as he stared her down, or tried to.

"Ah, Carlo Raze. Is there a problem?" She asked curiously as she smiled gently.

He looked taken aback but still pressed on.

"I don't know what kind of props or whatever you used to conjure up this place but I'm warning you. If you don't want trouble with my father you will return me back at once!"

"Shit. It's Carlo. I heard he's the son of the notorious red rooves gang head." A boy with glasses gulped as he nudged his friend.

"Wait, I thought that was just rumours. I guess it's true for him to be able to act out like this." His friend shook his head. "Though I gotta say, this seems way too real to me to be props."

"While I hate to agree with this beef-head, he's right!" Another girl walked up, her eyes narrowing coldly at the woman as she snapped her fingers impatiently. "Whoever paid you to kidnap us doesn't know who they're messing with. If my father hears that you've brought me here against my will, you'll be in very big trouble."

She had long, blonde hair falling loosely around her shoulders and her eyes were a deep, rich brown. Her supple figure swayed as she walked forward, drawing the eyes of Carlo and a few others for a moment before her glare made them look away.

Maraele turned her head towards the students standing nervously.

"Oh my, I didn't account for this. Do you all share the same sentiment?"

They all looked at each other nervously before a couple of people nodded and stepped forward.

"Well this place is beautiful but I really have to get back home."

"I can't just accept to do some weird stuff with some stranger."

"I at least have to erase my search history."

In the end, eight other people stepped out. Five girls and three guys.

"Oh, are you sure you want to go back?" She asked, her voice sounding a bit strange.

Then she smiled.

"I'm sorry but that is, regrettably impossible."

At this, Carlo became enraged and walked up to her, hovering over her by a full head. He stared down at her with cold eyes, his hands clenching at his sides.

"Tch, look lady. I don't give a fuck about you or whatever this is, but if you do not answer me this moment. I might do something we'll both regret."

"As I said, there is no way for you to return as of this moment. If you just let me explain..." She answered calmly, unfazed.

He pulled back his fist before swinging to punch her."I said, send us back!"

"[Impale]"

Suddenly, a brilliant flash of light burst from his right hand. Adrian shielded his eyes with his hand but when he uncovered them, they widened in shock.

"Aargh! w-what did you do to me? What is this?!"

Carlo's right arm was suddenly pierced by a crystal spike protruding from the ground. From the point of contact, the wounds seemed to bleed gold as a slowly-expanding sheet of gold covered it, spreading across his arm.

He was kneeling on the ground before the angel, his impaled arm hanging uselessly above him as he tried not to twitch. Mucus and years fell freely from his face as he cursed out in pain.

Yet, the woman merely sighed in disappointment as she tapped the spike once, causing Carlo's arm to twitch painfully.

"It truly pains me it had to come to this. I didn't want this to escalate this far. But you know..."

Her presence suddenly seemed infinitely more overwhelming, causing Carlo to fall silent out of sheer terror. Suddenly, he felt as if something in that halo...was watching him.

"You talk way too much for an extra who has no real value."

Then she smiled gain as she turned towards the other students, making them flinch. The oppressive presence suddenly disappeared, yet the message had been delivered. The smiling angel was by no means frail.

"Strong."

He suddenly blinked and Carlo's arm was restored. The boy himself seemed shocked, touching his arm around as if to verify it was real. Even the spike was gone too.

His gaze hardened as he looked back to the gentle looking woman in white.

'This was real. There were no tricks. No props. This was real magic. And they were all in the palm of her hand.'

Right as he thought that, a boy behind him stepped up, walking past Carlo who was still frozen in shock. He stood before the angel for a moment before smiling and dropping to a knee.

"I greet the great guide of souls Maraele. Please tell us what you wish of us." He spoke eagerly, under the shocked gaze of the class.

Adrian's eye twitched as he ruffled his hair in annoyance before stepping up too, but he didn't bow but just spoke casually.

"And I...want to get this over with."

For a second he thought she wouldn't respond but she smiled and nodded, pleased.

"I'm glad you have accepted." She said cheerily, as if she hadn't just skewered someone's arm a minute ago.

He noticed the boy giving him a dark look, yet he simply smiled darkly.

"Oh hello Arthur, or should I say...Trashbin"
