Chapter 107 - Undercliff

Nessa knew the key ring before anyone else in the hall did.

Cassian had barely set it on the long table before she stepped closer from the chair where Oda had forced her under blankets and heat and the full insult of being told to sit still. Her hands still shook from the slate crossing. The marks at her wrists had darkened into narrow red bands. Even so, the instant she saw the ring and the waxed tags looped through it, something in her face sharpened past exhaustion.

"That one is bath west," she said, pointing at the shortest key. "That one is the linen room on the inner side. That tag is not for the stores, even if they cut it to look like one. It belongs to the back cabinet where the spare hall cloth is kept."

The room went quiet around the table.

Jace turned the ring once in the lamplight. "You're sure."

Nessa nodded without hesitation. "I sorted them often enough to know the weight in my hand."
